There is no reliable proof that anyone since the times of apostles did get the Holy Spirit through prayer, so the help the first christians had from the Holy Spirit was exceptional a gift which was necessary in order to introduce the Gospel. When the Gospel was enough spread, that help was no longer needed, so now days, after being baptized in the Holy Spirit, christians can only gradually, through faith and obedience, grow in the Holy Spirit.
