It was worse in the 80s, I was 12 in 1981 and started secondary school, I remember in the playground on the first day I was pointed out and surrounded by all the older boys like I was a freak show, It went on until I left in 1985, I had to give up college and go to work at 16 I was so burned out with it, Bullying robbed me of my education and future, I was told I was gay as matter of fact, No matter how hard you try to hide it some one will read it in you gaydar they call it now.
the word, that really get to me, even if its being said casually, is fag or faggot, makes me feel terrible, im really open about my sexuality and i will confront any1 that uses gay or fag in an offencive way. I always thought that im strong and i wud never think about scuicide, thought that right up untill the other day.
I know your brother passed today and its sad. My feelings go out to you and your family. Bullying is never ok and SOMEONE at that school needs to be fired. I am from the neighboring town of Bakersfield and I am tired of hearing of these bullying incidents where the teachers stand by and do nothing its horrible.
My brother committed suicide too . I feel like my world stopped spinning that day so I have devoted my life to try and change our society so others may live .
