  • Next time a black person says whitey can't dance, show him the guy on the left in this video!

  • @1957pinup I think you are color blind or your monitor has terrible color resolution. There is no white guy on the left. They are all black. None of them are white, only thier outfits.

  • The Dude on the left ripped off My moves....!

  • i like the music of the past

  • who knows what is down the road musically. I remember lot's of people back then that could not wait for the next new thing. They did not just look back in the past like the best music had to offer was behind them. I know the next big thing is boogien our way soon. High gas prices, crooked politics, things messed up all around the world, polyester, sound like 1973 all over again.

  • muito lindaaaaa.....

  • Could not agree more Theicestorm. Today's music is just can noise. Wish they could produce music like the yesteryears. I was a dj then and it was the best time of my life just to entertain and see people enjoying themselves to the music.

  • Makes a good wedding song.

  • This makes wanna go on a cruise, I just hope nobody really tips the boat over. That would ruin everything : D

  • @MultiDenise36 - Splash!

  • I know I will catch flack for this: I've always believed that this was the very first disco record to hit #1 on the American Billboard Charts.

  • wished i was in my twenties back then :) i would have rocked the boat lol :)

  • amazing song stands the test of time

  • I wasn't born any where NEAR this day in age, and I absolutely love 60's 70's and 80's music. Disco was probably the BEST music of that time.

  • 'I'd like to know where you got that nose from'. A cruel taunt circa 1974. Seriously though this is an epic SOUL track. Loved it then, love it now, will love it tomorrow. Timeless.

  • Lol why dude hve on.a bo derek head band?

  • OMG I love this song but never knew it was this old! I mean from early 70's...still love it tho. thanx

  • Esta música la escuchaba a los 13 años y me devuelve la alegría al corazón, gracias por subirla, saludos desde Argentina.!!!!!!!

  • This song reminds me of one the most fun nights I've had. A reception of a wedding. Everyone sat on the floor rocking the boat!

  • Even though we have so many great new songs now, this is still one epic song!

  • And I always thought it was I'd like to know where you got the nose job!! you learn something everyday! JOKE!!

  • Been so long, wow memories.

  • I USE TO LOVE TO DANCE TO THIS SONG!!

  • i allways loved this song..

  • Love the dude on the left. He wants to dance to this melody like Charlie Parker would pay to it, stuffing twice as many moves as expected into the space.

  • thumbs up if the music back then is better than the one now :)

  • @Theicestorm10 to their credit I hear a lot of today's youth wishing they'd been born earlier just to have enjoyed the music of that era. shame it doesn't seem to resonate with today's musicians

  • My first dance was to this. It holds great memories.

  • 1974, what a Summer, I was young, in good health and most important ,everyone I cared about was still alive. Not to mention all the songs of that Summer that now wack me across the head with nostalgia. All you young folks in the same category as I was then.. now, enjoy it, the years fly by and you don't realize it until it happens and not a second sooner! My only regret is that I could have been nicer to those that have passed on, not that I wasn't nice at all, but I could have done better!

  • @trinitylancer Beautifully said, this song and your comments brought me to tears. Thank you. 'ditto'.

  • 12 people need to get on the Boat.

  • GREAT SONG! LOVE IT!

  • carlito's way

  • This was a major low rider song for cruising the BLVD around and great disco beat to dance to back in 1973-74.

  • I saw this on The Cable Guy haha

  • what happened to black music

  • @QuaziGNRLNose What seems to have happened is the strong link to Gospel and Blues has been severed.

'Hues Corporation 'were so strongly Gospel influenced..just listen to their gorgeous version of "Freedom For The Stallion" (one of the finest songs ever done) All real talent's been replaced by electronic "noise" , autotune and "sampling". Nothing new, it's been heading that way since the 1990s. Very sad though.

  • @QuaziGNRLNose Stupid commercial sell out Rap music has been jammed down our throats for so long the young generation of Black people don't know anything else EXCEPT Rap crap now. This music is hard to make, rap is like a big mac burger, same ever time so its easy to formulate.

  • i like it

  • my favorite of the hgues corp. song

  • don't tip the boat over.....rock the boat....

  • so i like to know where you got the motion!!!!! hahahha cool

  • Great song ! BTW, they look like toys! :-D

  • early disco here.....remember this one well, got alot of air play back in the day !

  • in prison people sing dont drop soap.

  • @XxTimmyTimexX

    hahaha lol

  • In the 70's I heard an Al Green tune that got a lot of play on the rock station described in racist terms. This separation between rock and black is really something of concern.

I used to think rock was very political and I was easy to persuade as to the superiority of the rock genre, but rock, just like this disco or soul music is also full of lyrics that are really about nothing more than romantic love. What makes rockers think they are better?

  • Love is very important. Rocking the boat is usually associated with corruption of some sort, pay-offs, discrimination and other ugliness. Someone tells or "blows the whistle" on these things and it's called rocking the boat.

It's a very old expression that my late mother used to use quite a bit. A boat that is good, that is doing good things, you don't want to rock but a boat that is bad, that is corrupt and doing bad things, that deserves a little rocking.

  • Tenerife 2011!!

  • ☮♥ ☺ ♪♫ rock the boat.....

  • the hues corporation marco epoca en el 70

  • 8 people tipped the boat over.

  • I was Grade 3 in real life!

when I was Grade 2 we and our Another Section named "St Charles" and "St Bendict (My main section in Grade 2) we dance this for our School Foundation

  • oldie but goody love this song

  • Some people are sadly stuck in t he slave mindset This video is not about kidnapped people LET GO

  • Most music pundits that I have read and most people I have talked to in the business - DJ's from back in the day, producers, musicians - pretty much agree that this was the first Disco song.

  • @arkady714 Dont be a Pratt Disco is from the French word Discotheque a bar were the music was taken from Vinyl records so I would suggest the first Disco dance songs were French or British

  • @keirfree Angry Brits in search of reasons to deny Yankee culture is a cliche. Get off your cross. It's a bore.

Though the origin of the word is French, the concept of "disco" is that of a soul based dance music in 2/2 time. The first article about disco appeared in a Rolling Stone article in '73 by Vince Aletti. Disco's geographic origin is credited to the clubs of NYC and Philadelphia in the early 70s. Educate yourself before calling people names. It's how you will one day get respect.

  • @arkady714 Pratt, even in the 1960 s disco s were operating in Paris, London, nothing angry, just fed up of ill educated Yanks mouthing off ! even the beatles 1962 were using Disco s as live venues

    Get a grip !

  • @keirfree Not angry, just fed up? Haaaaa-ha-ha-haaa! I've got news for you, big boy.

1 - Yanks (as well as the Frogs, the Germans and whomever the Brit hate-du-jour might be) will never stop mouthing off and there's not a thing you'll do to stop it.

2 - "Disco," in the term at hand, talks of a 70s music style, nothing else.

3 - Avoiding what I wrote to vent being "fed up" shows what a cliche Brits like you are.

Can't get proper chips on in Maillorca, can you! Haaa-ha-ha!!!

  • @arkady714 You seem a right Numpty ! Wat eva now piss off ! and drink what eva it is you drink

  • @keirfree All your doing at the moment is enforcing a negative British stereotype. arkady714 isn't helping, but if you stop now and just enjoy the music, everyone will be happier.

    Peace

  • @SlightlyLessSinister Only in your Mind about ! Sterotypes !!

happier but just as ignorant of the real world beyond, USA shores

  • @keirfree There are many places to discuss ignorence. A YouTube video for a 70's disco hit is NOT one of those places

  • @SlightlyLessSinister It's just that it's black people singing about rocking the boat and it has a hip beat. I don't know why we shouldn't discuss the basic expession there. I haven't read the posts related to a slave ship but I sure know the expression rocking the boat. Whether to rock a boat or not is often an important issue for people to solve and what does it matter where you discuss it?

  • max and paddy dance lol

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • This should have more hits, this song has been sampled and used so many times

  • Thank You so Much for Posting this ROCKING Classic! I honor You.

  • Ehhh Carlito Mannnn

  • i liked this song because it was my "action" song in my better days... i was a scuba diver and had several dives "above the water" to this tune.... :D,naturaly on my vessel...:) and really don't care if it's about a slave trade boat or tumultuos relationship...

  • i liked this song because it was my "action" song in my better days... i was a scuba diver and had several dives "above the water" to this tune.... :D

  • The next song they released was even better than this and went no where on the charts---"I Caught Your Act"

  • Rock on witcha bad self

  • i like this song cause it was on roll boucr

  • 7 people rocked the boat

  • i hate to drop knowledge on you guys, but i think this song is talking about having sex
