  • Heard mention of polytheism, and secularism, and no idea that truth in life can be found through a monotheistic God. Not looking for an argument here, just find that funny. The question should rather be, "What is the Meaning of Life apart from God?"

  • What is the problem? Why do people have to have a meaning for their life? Is it so scary to live a life without divine purpose? You could spend your life making life better for yourself, and those around you. I myself am studying to become a physicist. In that way I can further the human understanding of the universe, and help technological progress. By doing this, i enrich life for myself, and all of the human race. That is my purpose.

  • Meaning of life is to enjoy it, enjoy it with as many friends as you can and live on in there hearts.

  • life has no objective meaning, this is a fact, if you dont like it, get over it, however, you can make whatever subjective meaning you want, i find that more pleasing that any objective meaning that is forced upon me from before i was even born, somedays, i feel like doing nothing, having no objective meaning allows this

  • Shit, the Buddha was saying more or less this 2500 years ago.

  • Life is what you make of it. Period. Bad people like Hitler will not be brought to justice by no higher power but us. And so does justice not come to the righteous by itself. We must grasp that ourselves.

    Very inspiring reading.

  • 1,000,000 times wiser than Jesus and his mangy followers.

  • profound. Very, very, very deep.

  • Paul Kurtz versus Craig he "lost" badly... so how does Humanism answer Nihilism?

  • in my opinion we live by mistake

  • 1) The question is incomplete.

    2) The answer is incomplete and a bit wordy. Sounds as though he's trying to pad his book with as many words as possible. Which probably confuses the reader/listener.

The question really is: What is the purpose and meaning of existence.

The answer is: yes or "I concur".

In other words, the question IS the answer. So, if you contemplate the question, eventually you will see that it is the answer.

Every fundamental principle of nature is a paradox.

  • the meaning of life is to live, learn and experience life itself. The point to life is existing and expriencing everything that you can experience.

  • there is no one answer to this question, knowing there is no one answer to this question and there is no true meaning to life then there can only be one answer which is the meaning of life is to give meaning to life.

  • sounds like Frankl. i like!

  • But this doesn't let me feel superior to others or grant me membership to an in-group of those to whom god has bestowed revealed knowledge.

  • "so the meaning of life is to give meaning to life"

I encountered that one first from Nietzsche.

And people say "nihilism" with such disdain ... psh ... ;)

  • I see sex didnt enter his list of great life experiences.......

  • HAHAHAHA

  • so the meaning of life is to give meaning to life

  • No. The meaning of your life is yours to discover or create. Reach out with your volition and actions towards it.

  • thanks for the encouragement :). that was kind of what i was saying but you have inspired me. even though i might not be able to get the job i want right away i can volunteer in the field and help people out, which i just started to do, and perhaps someday use the evidence of that help as a way to get into a career that i like.

  • i liked your 10 tenets and the part after that. it helped me structure some thoughts in my mind on atheism. just wanted to say thanks. did you write it?

  • You are most welcome, sir. It is my goal, privilege and pleasure to improve the lives of my fellow human beings. You are welcome to the sum total of all that I know should you find any of it to be of value. I found the 10 tenets of skepticism....uh...somewhere, realized it to be of great worth, adopted it, and posted it on my channel. The remainder was written by me. Personal communication, if you desire it, will require a "Friend" invite from you. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Slag

  • "The health of society (other humans) is directly related to the health of yourself" Anyone who cares about their life, yet is selfish, they are fucking contradictory idiots. Unfortunatley the majority consist of these type of idiots. Good job, you are not one of them slag.
