mom2ericnb, what in the h*ll are you talking about? Doctors did not cause the brain tumour that I was born with, what a ridiculous comment or lemmi guess, are you a Mrs LRH?
Geepers, szgirl ... I always said that there can be NO greater pain than brain swelling. For days I could not open my eyes and every time I tried to speak, the pain got so bad that I passed out. My neurologist and neurosurgeon were worried that something had gone wrong because I was not coming around. Then one day the pain reduced and I opened my eyes and said, "Hey Doc!" to the neurosurgeon who was pacing around my room. He was so relieved that he started crying, in front of me and my mom.
My neurologist told me that they removed a piece of my brain the size of a golf ball (almost my entire right temporal lobe). I had the most terrible brain swelling agony and pyschosis after the op but fortunately, I came 100% right after about two years.
this is the exact same surgery my mom is having eventually... im so sad to hear about this person... and very relieved that someone can live a normal life. This is very hard to go through, i am a 14 year old boy and i have to take my bike everywhere, I dont even have any time for my self.
@MrLuckluck How's your mom doing? Has she had the surgery? If you read above, I also had surgery and I'd do it again in an instant. It helped me SO MUCH! Good luck to your mom. I hope you find alone time now. Best wishes.
@szrgirl Thank you, she has been much better, i think the problem was that she was very home sick... my mom went to india where her mom was which was one month ago, and she stopped having seizures ever since.... i dont think that she need surgery anymore. But her grandma is sick. But thats very nice to know how ur surgery went.... Do you feel any different? and how did it feel wen u were trying to recover?
@MrLuckluck It's great your mom has stopped having seizures!! Congrats!!
My seizures began with an auto accident and severe head injury. Because I had the bad head injury, the problems with memory after surgery were no different from before the surgery. The first two days after surgery were very painful, but within a week I was taking over-the-counter pain medicine.
How is life for you? Brain surgery affects family almost as much as the patient. Are you okay?

I forgot about the swelling! I couldn't see for several days afterwards because my eyes were swollen shut.

Hi szgirl,
Thanks for the comment. I am so glad to hear that you are controlling your seizures now. That's what it's all about!
I was off my meds within about a year after the op and have been seizure-free ever since (it's been about ten years).

Are you still on meds?
I had complex partial, also.
I had Right Temporal Lobe surgery in 2007.
Sept 06 My neurologist called me to say I was a perfect candidate. I remember screaming, "YES!!! YAY!!! WHEN CAN WE DO IT??!!!"
May 07, removed the hyppocampus and partial amydala. Made things worse.
Dec 07, grid placement and another video eeg
Dec 07, Anterior temporal lobe resection, including amygdala
Medicine controls mine now! YAY!
How are you?
