I had my ACL done two days ago on Friday and I'm still nervous to try and weight bare with crutches but I go to Physical therapy tomorrow and I believe that they will just remove my dressings.. It gets better each day.
@duvalbit try weightbearing as much as you can. the more you walk around the more you get used to it. and yes it will get better every day KEEP DOING PHYS THEROPY. its been two and a half months since i had my surgery and i just took my first run in like 5 months, felt great:D
@duvalbit Yo~ cheeer up. Did mine on June 11. I am off crutches on day 5 with surgeron approved after post check up. And off immobilizer on day 10 after physio approved with my quadceipts mucles building up.
If you are allowed to put weight, train it eariler. Don't push too hard but ask the physio what kind of pain you are expecting to have when doing rehab. No pain no gain if you stopped pain killer. =P
Heyy..got the same thing here..torn meniscus and acl reconstruction also needs to be done. Just one question..the doc has told me that after 9 months of rehab I'll be able to get back to football. Does that mean I'll be able to play just as b4???plzz..let me knw asap coz this is really \stressing me out!!.thx...
@555discovery i had my acl mcl and meniscus repaired 9 months ago from wakeboarding and my doctor let me start again on the 6th month because he felt i did enough therapy and my knee felt strong and some testing results were very well... you MUST do the rehad!! work out that leg as much as possible and you will be back..... i would be afraid if someone hit me and tore my shit....if that happened i would karate chop them in the throat because i never want to go through that again!!!!
I go for a MRI tomorrow. The docs says it is most likely my ACL. Just curious as to how long the down time is. By the looks of your video I am hoping to recover as good as you did
had my surgery march 15, 2010 i still cant walk without crutches b/c i had knee imobilized for bout 2 months b4 surgery never really moved until 2 weeks b4 surgery had full acl tear and recovering extremely fast i had other nerve damage but its coming along well for they injury i had though i wont be going back to soccer.......btw im 16
it took me about a week before i could walk with crutches. but they chipped off parts of my patellar bone. so thats why mine hurt so bad. and its gonna take longer for me to heal. but the surgery wasnt bad at all, especially cause i had a nerve block. if they offer that, DO IT!
the IV needle might be big but dont let that scare you.. its gonna be quick u wont even feel it.. soon as they break the skin the sooner they take it out u gonna be like WAS THAT IT i was nervous over that little shyt they gonna say i wish i had a camera the way u was actin like a cry baby i even ask to see the needle then said OH HELL NAW!! then said FUC IT go head after that i was actin like a G someone took a picture i put the PEace sign up. the nurses was laughin..
I tore my acl on August 16, 2009. Had surgery September 2, 2009. I had a cadaver ligament. I just been cleared to practice with my high school team after 5 months and will be fully cleared in 3 weeks in time for our first game. Most docs say it takes 8-12 months to recover but if you work hard and do rehab on your own you can come back sooner.
@wilson13524 Hey dude, I had my ACL, MCL and Meniscus done on Tuesday, it's now Saturday and i'm fully capable on crutches and took my first steps today without them. I also got a 70 degree angle bend on it, so I can sit pretty normally now. I am pushing it hard though. I absolutely shat it going into the hospital- nearly walked out, ask for pre-meds and they'll completely calm you and you won't know a thing! (This is from a guy who's scared of needles) You'll be really pleased you had it done!
I was able to walk without crutches the day after surgery. Was able to walk a mile after a week or so once swelling was reduced. Don't be nervous ! You'll be fine. The pain was far worse when I tore the ACL than following surgery. Most painful part when I woke up was the canula in my hand.
You have to choose hamstring graft to replace your ACL and is is no other way around i had it done 8 days ago i am capable of going up and downstairs without cruches now. i am really happy that i have done it i dragged it more than 2 years. My doc told me if i wouldn`t have done this i might get arithrits pretty soon. Do the right thing to save your soccer career..good luck
i've torn my acl at rice university soccer camp&mann did it hurt! i got the surgery back in october& my knee is finally responding. thats great that he's recovery so quickly! Good luckk!(:
i had acl reconstruction on my left knee three week ago, they didnt give me crutches at all n got me walking very slowl the next day n goin up n down stairs using my stronger leg, i can now walk much better but cant go up n down stairs properly still usin one leg at a time. The op was brilliant and am really glad i had it done.
having surgery on monday, looking forward to having it over with and getting on the road to recovery:) pretty nervous tho, just wanna get back to rugby!
i had it and it went well:) it can be sore for a while but im sure the drugs will work:P i have had some trouble sleeping tho! good luck with the op and recovery, i cant wait to get back playing:)
wear ur brace when you do... kinda wierd it took u 3 weeks to get off crutches... i was off in a week... did u injure anything else along with it?... but yea the brace will really save ur knee if ur playin football or doin any other sport involving impacts... i tore mine my senior year of hs in fb... then stretched it last year when i wrecked a dirt bike... landed right on my knee... brace woulda helped alot
It healed up alright but every now and then, if I was dancing or doing something strenuous it gave way. Because I wanted to keep playing football I decicded to have it done, but yeh, if it wasn't for football, knowing what I know now, there's no way I'd do all that again.
If you guys aren't going to play football again it's hardly worth it. It'll give way every now and again, but the recovery time is fucked. I waited a few months before I had mine done - in fact I taped my knee after a 6 week layoff and finished the season on pain killers...
tore it playing football, surgery on oct 9 !!! wish me luck!! hope that shit don't hurt to much and soon i can be back on the field--(only waited 2 weeks for surgery bitches!!!)
I was told that i need an acl surgery and its torn. still waiting for a date but the wait is 10 months. :( does it hurt surgery, im pretty nervous. and do u fell any pain at 3 months? in this video
dont worry youll be able to get back out in the field and practing but it will be about 4months at least untill you can be cleared for certain team practices. i took me olny 4 months to get baseball cleared and at 6months i got cleared for football but youll probably get to play in 4to 6months but youll have to use a brace for 2 years
Whata? It's been three months for me and i can't do that. Doctor says i shouldn't. I agree, wait it out. I had a friend who started playing soccer 5 months after his surgery and he messed it up because the graft hadn't set in totally yet.
Can anybody give me some advice.. i had my ACL operation almost a year ago, but i had the graft from my hamstring. it was going really well to start with i could walk after a few days, jog after a few months etc... i have even played a 90 min football match now and it felt ok yet i still cannot fully extend my leg when i kick the ball hard.. it still hurts... it seems as if that last inch of extension is where i get the pain... is there still a problem or do i just need more physio??
I've torn mine 3 times now. 3 different types & the graft from my hamstring I thought was the hardest to bounce back from. I know that each time after I have torn my ACL, my physical therapist always trains me to get FULL extension, because it is the hardest to regain. I think you may need more pt & you should not be playing soccer if you do not have full range of motion in your knee. If it's not fully healed you're more apt to tear it again. Be careful.
dude ,ur amazing! this is my 3rd week after the acl surgery, and i can walk pretty well..i really hope i'll get to do all those things u did after 3 months
hey buddy, tell me how was your surgery? was it fast, were you able to walk at all after it, how long would it take for you to walk, run, etc, normally...please answer me. thanks
hey dude you need to chill um but i can answer all of your questions. the surgery was fast think 2 mabe 3 hours but i was put to sleep for it . i had to choose that or be under continious pain killers and a bunch of spinal crap . helllll no. iam not able to walk sense it is now exactlly a week sense but iam trying with my cruches every chance i get my knee still isnt to stable tho so i did my best for you o yea very very painful afterwards lol no joke
sorry for not replying ...right after the surgery it takes you 1 or 2 days after you can walk but i gotta tell u it really hurts for about 3 days and the therapy is absolutely necessary if you don't want to limp...basically you have to lear to walk again.
today it's my 6th month after the surgery and i can walk , run , jump etc just like before:D
its been 1 year since i had surgery and im back playing football..mine was atatched to my hamstring which i think is suposed to be the most efficient long lasting strongest method..the cadaver one isnt suposed to be as strong as the one i got
I'm 2 months past the tear and have had no surgery and I can walk fine, even run a bit but I don't push it. Sometimes I get discomfort under the knee cap. Other than that I think I will survive!
for me even though i was kinda okay .. it did hurt occasionaly not like imma die pain. but he said that my minuscus was also getting afftected and can cause cartilage wear and a buncha other stuff =/ ahh. so yeah =]
I tore mine in 2005 and did rehab for several weeks. I continued playing soccer with no problems until 2008 when the knee gave out again. So now, I'm recovering from the surgery done June 15.
Ah, i'm three months post op an my knee's still swollen. Are you using the machine to bend your knee? Right after surgery my doctor put me on it and took me off once i reached 90
wow, I'm one month and one day post surgery after a complete tear. i had the hamstring attached and im doing great. still a bit swollen but i can walk fine without crutches and i can bend about 110 degrees.
fuck the cadaver, you dont know if its some 50 year old man with a worn out body, with a tendon at least its yours and you know what youre going to get
i tore mine on feb 23, 09 and an x-ray and a MRI showered i had a tumor, later found out it was not cancer. first surgery to remove the tumor was march 3/31/09 and had ACL Allograft july 13th a week and a day later am feeling pretty good. no pain only when i stand i have a shape pain in my shine bone
i hurt mine training, am an amateur MMA fighter. also work as a sys admin.
hell yeah dude!! i haven't got the mri back yet to confirm but my doctor said he thinks i tore my acl (playing soccer) and i thought i wouldn't be able to do anything forever but this has given me hope! still not happy i'll be out even 3 months but it's better than 9
It's been a month for me since I tore mine, I haven't had surgery or anything and I can do that right now. In some cases surgery isn't required at all.
yeah after i tore mine, i was able to do everything shortly after, but i could feel my knee slowly getting looser and less stable so i decided to get surgery so i could wrestle without having to worry about it
if you wish to take some kind of sports seriously it is smarter to just get the surgery. continuing with high level athletics could lead to wear of the miniscus which will eventually lead to early arthritus
I don't think I will ever get the surgery.. I'm back to perfect function without the ACL. I can imagine you're right about the wearing of the meniscus but I'll take my chances and go easy on it.
how long did it take you to get back t perfect function? I injured mine 4 weeks ago and am still walking with a limp. I am not an athlete but I do like to exercise and walk, should i get the surgery???
It probably took me about 3 months before I felt comfortable on it again.. I definitely don't feel 100% what I was, but I can walk around and run up and down stairs perfectly fine. For the average person mobility shouldn't be a problem afterward, the problems arise when you're older and you get arthritis. It's also easier for you to dislocate your knee without the ACL so you have to constantly be thinking about that. I'm going to start physio eventually, and I expect that will help a lot.
get a doctor's appointment. then he/she'll refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon. it all depends on the severity of the sprain. It could also be meniscal. I'd get checked. too many people wait until nothing can be done and they can never perform as they used to.
yeah, i did somewhat the same thing. when i broke a piece of my upper tibia my ACL got really tight so it was like i got surgery on it too. the 2 painful things are: when the anesthesia wheres off after surgery and when in physical therapy. they pull your heel to your ass. that hurts like hell! the longest thing is getting your motion back and rebuild that leg muscle back up cause it will shrink and look wierd lol
hey man, i partially tore a part of my cruciate bout a year ago nd bout 2 weeks ago i hurt it again. im a bit aprehensive bout gettin bak to a point where i can be fully confident i can play witout doin it again. wat kinda exercises wer u recomended to do on ur own??
i am getting this surgery dunno when but i found out today bout this what do i need to do please help man i just did this skating and i havent exactly had an mri but doctor said right away that it was torn! thanks for replys
An MRI is not necessary for a prognosis. A specialist surgeon can assess the damage and determine what needs to be done on a knee by simply physically checking and talking to you on how you injured yourself. You sound young you should not worry about the recovery. If you are patient and fit, and if you follow the directions by the Physical Therapists and your surgeon you will have a knee that is stronger than the original god made one. I suggest to start PTs now to strengthen your muscles.
well i was back squating with wieghts about 10 weeks after surgery so this isnt exactly a miracle and i had ruptured my medial and have no posterior cruciate lig
yeah the initial swelling went down around 3-4 weeks, its jst when i bend it fully it feels tight and looks a bit bigger than the other knee, PT said it will take a while not to feel tightness but jst wanted other opinions!!!
hey neketr!! can u please tell me how long it took for the swelling to go from ur knee, mine still feels tight when bending! although it doesnt look swollen until i bend it!! at 13 weeks now!! doing my physio everyday!! cos i want to return to football!!
you should have been kept your knee in ice or some sort of cold pack all the time post surgery to stimulate faster blood circulation which induces healing and help with the swelling. Your doc. may use an injection to suck the fluid out. You should consult your doc on that because 13 weeks is a bit too long for swelling. PT and exercise are helpful to but I imagine you did not do somethings right. Are you taking any anti-inflammatory medication?
not on any anti-inflamitrory medication, i did put ice on my knee and have followed my PT religiously, my knee not swollen, jst when i fully bend it it feels tight inside and looks a bit bigger than the other!! will ask my PT 2moro!! knee feels fine otherwise!! thanks!!
i commeted a while back when i had my surgery. and you were right that things would get alot better. i am still taking things slow but i just wanted to thank you cuz it kind of gave motifvation to get alot better
This vid makes me proud. I tore My ACL a month ago im on a college scholarship for soccer. I had surgery 5 days ago (hamstring graft) and im feeling great. I cant wait 2 get back to football on the pitch. If u guys got any questions feel free 2 ask me. God Bless
hey had my op (hamstring graft) 12 weeks ago nw! think im doin fine but get a bit paranoid! i.e when i bend my knee it still feels a bit tight around the area and it makes a wierd crackling sound aswell! i jst put it dwn to it still probs swollen inside a bit, but unsure!! can anyone tell me what it might be? doing my physio everyday and will hopfully start running pretty soon! alot of muscle still to build up after wastage but will get there, physio says hopfully october i can return to footy!
recovery from ACL surgery is a long and slow process. I can not give an answer for an exact time but you can start walking using crutches in 3-5 days. depending on your age, being fit, weight etc. you can kick the crutches in 2 weeks or may need them for 2 months.
Took me 4 years to do the surgery but i did this week......i feel so much pain but worth it...just to sort this out is a relief and guys remember motobikes are dangerous see you take care
tore mine in april a little under a year ago playing lacrosse. doctor says theres a 25% it'll tear again, and a 10% that the other one witll tear. yikes :(
i am 6 weeks post op, do your exercises at home everyday twice a day...your knee will get stronger everyday ,i had acl with meniscus -best surgeon in nyc Dr Fred Cusher...for the ny knicks.....
had my acl surgery 3 months ao, started light jogging the other day, but sumtimes struggle walking with a locking out feeling, anyone else experienced this?
i ruptured my acl and tore my meniscus in indoor soccer, last march (2008) and i was only 12, i was playing on a u16 team at the time and got asked to sub for someone on a different team. during the game a girl on the team ran in front of me and cut me off so i had to stop short and my knee popped sideways. i had my surgery in may, and was out of soccer for 9 months. this was the worst thing that has ever happened to me so far, and trust me peopl you do not want this injury. painful recovey.
i tore my acl by playing soccer i just had my sugery a week ago and i cant wait till i can do what he doin acl sugery sucks i hate sitting at home all day
six weeks after my cruciate op i had to have another op to clean out the knee. I had to much swelling. Now another six weeks on i am walking no sticks and 120 degree bend. Be prepared for all types of scenarios with this surgery.
good job mate, you look well up and about after only 3 months, i just got mine done about 4 weeks ago. doing as i'm told by the physio. and i'm coming along great guns. however does that brace your wearing help significantly, i was thinking bout getting 1 but dont want to spend the money if it aint gonna help...oh and your footie skills need work...ha ha
My skills need work! what the heck. OMG! this is an invitation for a fight. No! kidding back! I like to see your video though when you can. Thanks for the comment. Yes the biggest trick is the physical therapies. Stick with them religiously. I lived with that brace for more than 10 years until I decide for the surgery so I happened to have it. Otherwise I would not have it post surgery. So, unless you are madly eager to get out there to start playing fast you don't need it . Just exercise gently
3/27/08 I tore my acl and ripped up the meniscus pretty good falling from a slam dunk backwards. 7/28/08 was my operation. between 3 and 4 months after that surgery I tore the graft after landing inappropriately from a jump off of a retaining wall. I have confirmed that I need another operation with my surgeon, but I can't get one for many months(5+?). My leg buckles again as it did before, so I ask: anybody ever go through a second operation, and was it successful? Any help would be great.
Ouch! okay, perhaps everybody you talked to told you that you should have taken it easy, be careful and stuff like that so I wil not repeat. The answer is yes if it buckles you need operation otherwise yo mess up your other ligaments and meniscus. The question is what graft he will use this time and what care you will take. Depending on those factors a successful second operation is possible. Good luck.
You will be amazed how fast you will recover. Your age is less than half of mine. Just trust yourself, do your therapies, keep your knee and head cool. let me know how you are doing.
I do not know what it takes to climb on a bobcat and the other thing and what do you do after you climb but I was driving my Honda Accord in 10 days to go to my religious Physical Therapy sessions.
Mind me asking but what option have you opted for? Hamstring, Patella or Cadaver? I was able to do stuff similar to that after two months without telling my doctor.. but once i told him he had me moved back to a more conservative rehab because supposedly the Hamstring option takes more to recover and if you do stuff like that u're putting unnecessary pressure on the new ACL that needs to heal and catch life :) what do you think? Im over three months in now..
You are absolutely right. This is aggressive. Perhaps I should remove this video. Had I not have that rigid brace I would not do none of these stuff. My own ha
Hi, I had my ACL recon. Had it during a parachute jump. I'm back into the sport i love after 6 mths prior to the surgery :-)

Wow, really great video.
I'm currently 3 weeks post-op on my second acl rebuild on the same knee.
My first acl rebuild was awful. I would have had problems kicking a ball around like you after six months.
This repair is looking dramatically better. I might be to your level in 3-6 months this time.
I'm sincerely glad to see you were doing so well.
were you still taking any pain meds 3 months post op? (advil or other)

I tore my acl on August 16, 2009. Had surgery September 2, 2009. I had a cadaver ligament. I just been cleared to practice with my high school team after 5 months and will be fully cleared in 3 weeks in time for our first game. Most docs say it takes 8-12 months to recover but if you work hard and do rehab on your own you can come back sooner.

how long does it take until you can walk after the surgery? im getting this done soon and im kinda nervous
wilson13524 2 years ago

I have a lot of questions since you are obviously a soccer player, i tore my ACL playing and I need some help as to what measures to be taken.
SoccerChick231996 2 years ago
You have to choose hamstring graft to replace your ACL and is is no other way around i had it done 8 days ago i am capable of going up and downstairs without cruches now. i am really happy that i have done it i dragged it more than 2 years. My doc told me if i wouldn`t have done this i might get arithrits pretty soon. Do the right thing to save your soccer career..good luck

wear ur brace when you do... kinda wierd it took u 3 weeks to get off crutches... i was off in a week... did u injure anything else along with it?... but yea the brace will really save ur knee if ur playin football or doin any other sport involving impacts... i tore mine my senior year of hs in fb... then stretched it last year when i wrecked a dirt bike... landed right on my knee... brace woulda helped alot

IS THE THERAPY NECESSARY FOR A RIGHT FULL RECOVERY???
WHAT IF I DONT TAKE THERAPIES? OR IF I DO THEM MY OWN??
paulelunico 2 years ago
It healed up alright but every now and then, if I was dancing or doing something strenuous it gave way. Because I wanted to keep playing football I decicded to have it done, but yeh, if it wasn't for football, knowing what I know now, there's no way I'd do all that again.
TheBerega 2 years ago
If you guys aren't going to play football again it's hardly worth it. It'll give way every now and again, but the recovery time is fucked. I waited a few months before I had mine done - in fact I taped my knee after a 6 week layoff and finished the season on pain killers...

dont worry youll be able to get back out in the field and practing but it will be about 4months at least untill you can be cleared for certain team practices. i took me olny 4 months to get baseball cleared and at 6months i got cleared for football but youll probably get to play in 4to 6months but youll have to use a brace for 2 years

Whata? It's been three months for me and i can't do that. Doctor says i shouldn't. I agree, wait it out. I had a friend who started playing soccer 5 months after his surgery and he messed it up because the graft hadn't set in totally yet.
renedotmac 2 years ago
Can anybody give me some advice.. i had my ACL operation almost a year ago, but i had the graft from my hamstring. it was going really well to start with i could walk after a few days, jog after a few months etc... i have even played a 90 min football match now and it felt ok yet i still cannot fully extend my leg when i kick the ball hard.. it still hurts... it seems as if that last inch of extension is where i get the pain... is there still a problem or do i just need more physio??
Jonno126 2 years ago
I've torn mine 3 times now. 3 different types & the graft from my hamstring I thought was the hardest to bounce back from. I know that each time after I have torn my ACL, my physical therapist always trains me to get FULL extension, because it is the hardest to regain. I think you may need more pt & you should not be playing soccer if you do not have full range of motion in your knee. If it's not fully healed you're more apt to tear it again. Be careful.

hey dude you need to chill um but i can answer all of your questions. the surgery was fast think 2 mabe 3 hours but i was put to sleep for it . i had to choose that or be under continious pain killers and a bunch of spinal crap . helllll no. iam not able to walk sense it is now exactlly a week sense but iam trying with my cruches every chance i get my knee still isnt to stable tho so i did my best for you o yea very very painful afterwards lol no joke
houdini529 2 years ago
sorry for not replying ...right after the surgery it takes you 1 or 2 days after you can walk but i gotta tell u it really hurts for about 3 days and the therapy is absolutely necessary if you don't want to limp...basically you have to lear to walk again.
today it's my 6th month after the surgery and i can walk , run , jump etc just like before:D

Ah, i'm three months post op an my knee's still swollen. Are you using the machine to bend your knee? Right after surgery my doctor put me on it and took me off once i reached 90
animereader1 2 years ago
wow, I'm one month and one day post surgery after a complete tear. i had the hamstring attached and im doing great. still a bit swollen but i can walk fine without crutches and i can bend about 110 degrees.
rexbassist 2 years ago
is a cadaver graph more riskier ?
or is it better than using your tendon ?
filahohi 2 years ago
I would suggest you read everything you can before using a allograft (cadaver) There is a great post at ACLCENTRALdotCOM regarding graft options.
ACLCENTRALdotCOM 2 years ago
fuck the cadaver, you dont know if its some 50 year old man with a worn out body, with a tendon at least its yours and you know what youre going to get
zach885 2 years ago

i tore mine on feb 23, 09 and an x-ray and a MRI showered i had a tumor, later found out it was not cancer. first surgery to remove the tumor was march 3/31/09 and had ACL Allograft july 13th a week and a day later am feeling pretty good. no pain only when i stand i have a shape pain in my shine bone
i hurt mine training, am an amateur MMA fighter. also work as a sys admin.

antwanb115 2 years ago
It's been a month for me since I tore mine, I haven't had surgery or anything and I can do that right now. In some cases surgery isn't required at all.
goooober 2 years ago
yeah after i tore mine, i was able to do everything shortly after, but i could feel my knee slowly getting looser and less stable so i decided to get surgery so i could wrestle without having to worry about it
agentsab 2 years ago
if you wish to take some kind of sports seriously it is smarter to just get the surgery. continuing with high level athletics could lead to wear of the miniscus which will eventually lead to early arthritus
rexbassist 2 years ago
I don't think I will ever get the surgery.. I'm back to perfect function without the ACL. I can imagine you're right about the wearing of the meniscus but I'll take my chances and go easy on it.
goooober 2 years ago
how long did it take you to get back t perfect function? I injured mine 4 weeks ago and am still walking with a limp. I am not an athlete but I do like to exercise and walk, should i get the surgery???
Thickumz2002 2 years ago
It probably took me about 3 months before I felt comfortable on it again.. I definitely don't feel 100% what I was, but I can walk around and run up and down stairs perfectly fine. For the average person mobility shouldn't be a problem afterward, the problems arise when you're older and you get arthritis. It's also easier for you to dislocate your knee without the ACL so you have to constantly be thinking about that. I'm going to start physio eventually, and I expect that will help a lot.
goooober 2 years ago
get a doctor's appointment. then he/she'll refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon. it all depends on the severity of the sprain. It could also be meniscal. I'd get checked. too many people wait until nothing can be done and they can never perform as they used to.
themattstonemusic 2 years ago
yeah, i did somewhat the same thing. when i broke a piece of my upper tibia my ACL got really tight so it was like i got surgery on it too. the 2 painful things are: when the anesthesia wheres off after surgery and when in physical therapy. they pull your heel to your ass. that hurts like hell! the longest thing is getting your motion back and rebuild that leg muscle back up cause it will shrink and look wierd lol

nectorX 2 years ago
An MRI is not necessary for a prognosis. A specialist surgeon can assess the damage and determine what needs to be done on a knee by simply physically checking and talking to you on how you injured yourself. You sound young you should not worry about the recovery. If you are patient and fit, and if you follow the directions by the Physical Therapists and your surgeon you will have a knee that is stronger than the original god made one. I suggest to start PTs now to strengthen your muscles.

hey neketr!! can u please tell me how long it took for the swelling to go from ur knee, mine still feels tight when bending! although it doesnt look swollen until i bend it!! at 13 weeks now!! doing my physio everyday!! cos i want to return to football!!
obzda1 2 years ago
wow, i had swelling out by 3-4 weeks.
mirrormirror3 2 years ago
you should have been kept your knee in ice or some sort of cold pack all the time post surgery to stimulate faster blood circulation which induces healing and help with the swelling. Your doc. may use an injection to suck the fluid out. You should consult your doc on that because 13 weeks is a bit too long for swelling. PT and exercise are helpful to but I imagine you did not do somethings right. Are you taking any anti-inflammatory medication?
neketr 2 years ago
not on any anti-inflamitrory medication, i did put ice on my knee and have followed my PT religiously, my knee not swollen, jst when i fully bend it it feels tight inside and looks a bit bigger than the other!! will ask my PT 2moro!! knee feels fine otherwise!! thanks!!

Hey i just had my surgery on 04/15/09 how long will it be b4 i can walk on my own?
wilbo321 2 years ago
recovery from ACL surgery is a long and slow process. I can not give an answer for an exact time but you can start walking using crutches in 3-5 days. depending on your age, being fit, weight etc. you can kick the crutches in 2 weeks or may need them for 2 months.
neketr 2 years ago
yeah. it really depends on if you damage your meniscus too

good job mate, you look well up and about after only 3 months, i just got mine done about 4 weeks ago. doing as i'm told by the physio. and i'm coming along great guns. however does that brace your wearing help significantly, i was thinking bout getting 1 but dont want to spend the money if it aint gonna help...oh and your footie skills need work...ha ha
bawbagM 3 years ago
My skills need work! what the heck. OMG! this is an invitation for a fight. No! kidding back! I like to see your video though when you can. Thanks for the comment. Yes the biggest trick is the physical therapies. Stick with them religiously. I lived with that brace for more than 10 years until I decide for the surgery so I happened to have it. Otherwise I would not have it post surgery. So, unless you are madly eager to get out there to start playing fast you don't need it . Just exercise gently
neketr 3 years ago
i ruptured my ACL and I have a brace just like the one in this video! its been 5 months since my surgery and my knee feels a lot better! :)
TeamEdward313 3 years ago
3/27/08 I tore my acl and ripped up the meniscus pretty good falling from a slam dunk backwards. 7/28/08 was my operation. between 3 and 4 months after that surgery I tore the graft after landing inappropriately from a jump off of a retaining wall. I have confirmed that I need another operation with my surgeon, but I can't get one for many months(5+?). My leg buckles again as it did before, so I ask: anybody ever go through a second operation, and was it successful? Any help would be great.
Merkataratapusatat 3 years ago
Ouch! okay, perhaps everybody you talked to told you that you should have taken it easy, be careful and stuff like that so I wil not repeat. The answer is yes if it buckles you need operation otherwise yo mess up your other ligaments and meniscus. The question is what graft he will use this time and what care you will take. Depending on those factors a successful second operation is possible. Good luck.

What do you mean second? I hope it is not on the same knee. Good luck with that, at the least you know what to expect..
neketr 3 years ago
Mind me asking but what option have you opted for? Hamstring, Patella or Cadaver? I was able to do stuff similar to that after two months without telling my doctor.. but once i told him he had me moved back to a more conservative rehab because supposedly the Hamstring option takes more to recover and if you do stuff like that u're putting unnecessary pressure on the new ACL that needs to heal and catch life :) what do you think? Im over three months in now..
DeathDealer7 3 years ago
You are absolutely right. This is aggressive. Perhaps I should remove this video. Had I not have that rigid brace I would not do none of these stuff. My own ha
