  • I have a d1 and i love it, its a great instrument. I have also a d28. I don't know which instrument i prefer they're both great. The d28 has a warmer sound but the sound of the d1 is more balanced.

  • i have a 1988 d 1, and it sounds better today , than it did brand new. the satin finish has yellowed a bit, making it more beautiful each day. i think i paid a grand for it. my daughter is going to get it...when they pry my cold dead fingers from it. ha

  • Martins have a deeper resonance than most guitars soooo....if you ever try one out in a store that sounds "dead", ask them to re-string with fresh strings. You will flat out be amazed, and had better be prepared to pull out the plasic.

  • The older D-1 model stomps this one in the ground. Just buy something else with better quality than Martins attempt to bottom feed...

  • @bricktopra3 Some may not think it's as pretty, but with satin finish. The sound is great, nice deep and loud balance sound. The strat. neck you can't get any stronger.Theres nothing wrong with the D-1

  • @bluegrasssingingman Scalloped bracing

  • It's BUY not by. You have no clue what your talking about. I think the harsh opinions on this board show your age. It's just a guitar guys, relax. Hating this guitar doesn't make your guitar any cooler.

  • I have a d1r and a blueridge br160, blueridge is a very fine guitar, the martin still has more bass and does have a better over all sound and has almost double the vol. I also have a 1973 Martin d35. The d1 is a great sounding guitar. Martin is the best there is no matter what price range. Thats why every line of guitars copy Martin, ah not because there junk.

  • Don't know what you like sitkatop, or music,Maybe your a Gibson or Taylor lover, that owns a Blueridge. I see atlease you got something right when you purchased a Blueridge.

  • I have one of the last batch of the older ones with rosewood fingerboard.

I kinda like the simple look and minimum finish on these.

Mine has laminate sides IIRC but is quite responsive and has a nice vibrant sound.

I have played other (later) D1's that I thought had a more "flat" sound to them, but never tried these new ones with solid sides.

The 000-1 is also very nice.

If I lived in US I would get a kit so I could afford one, (and for the fun&learning of it..) but they don't ship abroad :(

  • like many people i cant afford the higher end martins "right now" so i'm getting this bad boy sounds amazing def. can tell its a martin plus the neck looks sweet even better without any binding like a stratocaster can someone pleas tell me if this guitar is made in the usa or mexico?

  • Made in the USA. I just bought one for $899. Well worth the money.

  • hey thanx for the reply i got mine on order now

  • Just like mine only it's a D-1R

The rosewood version which sadly Martin discontinued years ago.

  • whats the main difference between sapele and mahogany?

  • To the ear it's pretty indistinguishable, I heard no difference when playing 2 guitars the same model, one mahogany one sapele. To the eye, sapele looks similar but has a slight stripe to it when you twist it through the light.
