wow this is really interesting its alot different than the modern sport of thai boxing today...it looks more like silat and more how other traditional martial arts play.
That style looks different than modern ring. Looks almost like capoeira in some sequences. Seemed like it included more dancing like movements, as well as the fighting elements. Like when the fighters are not engaging eath other they seem to be feeling each other out with a negativa style movement like that found in Brazillian capoeira.
That documentary fightorflight looks good. I'm going to check it out.
The pre-fight ritual (dance) is no joke, although to many it may seem so. It's called the Wai Khru Ram Muay and is for the fighters to pay respect and thanks to their trainer and others who have helped them and to pray for people and things that are important to them...Great film by the way, thanks alot
I found it in the Bangkok Film Archive and I had to get it transferred from celluloid on to digital. I also included a trailer of Fight or Flight. Its from a film called "I am from Siam" -
Cinema of Thailand, from Wikipedia: "Seventeen films were made between 1927 and 1932, but only fragments have survived, such as a one-minute car chase from Chok Sorng Chan[7] or a two- to three-minute boxing match from Khrai Di Khrai Dai (None But the Brave)."
Rear attack. Lol of course Thai people know about "rear attacks" ;)

Good footage, interesting to see how much the Muay Thai art has evolved over the years. Looks like its been influenced a lot by Western Boxing.

This is already a step away from Muay Boran, as it is in a ring and has rules. Still a great sport and effective way of self defense.
