I heard this when I was a kid and thought it was so funny. I love when he raves about the nectarine. For yrs I wanted to hear this again and today I heard it on WITT (radio) and then checked YouTube THANK YOU for posting this!
This is, hands down, one of the greatest comedy skits of all time, possibly THE best. They just don't write comedy like this anymore. Mel, Carl, thank you!
The flip side of these gems had some hilarious short sketches including "Dr. Haldanish". Also "the astronaut" Could you put those up? Thanks, I'm so delighted that this is up here to listen to again. Thanks!!
@WillShakespeare2007 If you don't find it funny, you obviously don't understand the of the humor. Yes, in some ways it can be related to the jesters of Shakespeare, but this is a truly Jewish tradition. When you insult this kind of comedy, you are insulting a way of life that has kept a society of people from dying of survivor guilt or letting everyone die and just giving up. In this sense, the humor is very different. Please refrain from commenting any more on my videos.
@RogerBsDelaine all 3 parts this guy posted-does it equal the whole sketch? my Dad lost his vinyl of it and wants to re-listen to it, I've heard it tons of times, but these 3 seemlike something's missing, no?
@WillShakespeare2007 You can't assume that all citizens of the Internet are seeking to assault you. Speaking for myself, I'm an ambassador of peace and would sooner seek consensus with you than duke it out. Bottom line: Either you are paranoid and genuinely believe people are against you because your so controversial. Or you're just an asshole - which is a distinct possibility given the nature of your responses, I don't get the impression you take yourself or anyone else seriously- I pity you
@WillShakespeare2007 I suggested that the video that sent you here didn't mention humor after you stated that you felt mislead. You correct me when I was pointing out something that Larry David said. I never looked to be disagreeable with you, just wanted to point out something you neglected. I didn't look to argue with you and was surprised to find you so defensive after my initial point. I'd have no problem with you presenting an alternate opinion if you weren't so damn abrasive.
@WillShakespeare2007 -- Buddy you don't need to be disagreeable to make a point. If you want to disagree with someone disagree with Larry David who suggests that this is a prime example of Jewish humor, if you watched this video because of his suggestion you should already be aware of this. And you're suggestion that Jewish humor must directly deal with Jewish themes is simplistic. The use of Yiddish along with the old Jewish man archetype seems quite overt - sorry if you missed it.
Genius! They improved most of this, and Mel really became 2000 years old! "Fear would be the main propulsion..." Insanely hilarious! And you don't have to speak Yiddish to understand it (but it helps).
@WillShakespeare2007 He was talking to Gervais about Jewish humor and I assume this was the logical reference. Gervais hadn't heard it and Larry reccomended it, and while you may believe its not funny it is quite jewish, perhaps you came to hear the wrong thing.
These two should be on COMEDY's Mount Rushmore!!!! Nothing compares!....and the work is close to fifty years old and is as funny TODAY and will be 2000 years from now! These two always make me laugh!....
It must be out of print, because I cannot find it anywhere. Part 3 of the 2000 yr old man posted above is on 2013 as well. (It sounds like a different recording session.) I'm not sure why. Maybe someone can explain.
I have been listening to this since I was a little kid and it is still one of the funniest things I've ever heard!

Carl Reiner was once asked: "Why are all the comics young Jews?" His answer: "I guess because all their parents were old Jews."
