Someone needs to tell me how raising the taxes on oil companies will lower the cost of gas. When has a tax increase EVER lowered prices for consumers? Minimum wage increases raiset the cost of goods becasue they pass it along to the consumer. Same with this. You want to lower the cost of gas? Why not tap our own resources AND incentivise alternatives? MamiYankee, how's that $4.00 per gallon price treating you with your fella in office now?
This guy has no idea what he's talking about. The reason why gas is expensive is that Democrats in Congress won't let us drill and the last time we've built a new refinery was 30 years ago. All because of radical environmentalists!!!
Hmm... Domestic oil? Really? Nuclear Power? Here? Now? Really? The environmental cost of both of those are staggering (possibly going to cause the end of humanity) and the economic cost of nuclear energy is mind blowing. Of course, not only that but more nuclear energy equals serious security issues as more nuclear facilities are built more nuclear weapons materials exist and that enables more people to more access to more dangerous weaponry. All of that is bad, really, really, fucking bad.
Then move or do something about it! It's a scam and you accept that.........that's your problem. What constitutes $12 per gallon. You have got to be out of your "F-ING" mind.
Every canditate says that biodiesel is only a good thing. But there are huge problems concerning biodiesel. If it's made out of corn or other eatable plants, biodiesel would contribute a lot to the world wide hunger problems. Prices of corn would rise if more of it would be used for biodiesel. Other problems are the clearing of the rainforests for big monocultures that need a lot of fertilizer (often made of oil). The soils get leached out... Biodiesel is no sustainable energy!
i was under the impression that there's enough food to feed the entire world, it's just not all in the right places. doesnt plenty of food get wasted anyways? why not do something with it.
I could not agree more with many of these comments.
Remember when Gore proposed a $0.25 tax on gas to prepare for the future? It was crucified as a certain means to destroy the economy and ruin the American way of life.
Hmmm- Gas was 1.25 then. Where is it now?
Who has been in charge for 8 years?
Let Us Choose:
1. $1.75 gas with mass transit, alternative fuel sources and a comprehensive energy policy?
2. $4.75 gas and a plan to drill to drill off the coast of Santa Monica & Naples, FL.?
why so down on big oil? they do what all companies do - make profits.
fault lies with all of us - WE built an infrastructure with densities too low to sustain public transit, WE chose not to invest in alternative sources even after the embargo in the 70's, and WE elected leaders who did nothing to relieve our dependence on foreign oil
energy is the biggest issue this election- its the reason our economy is in shambles and the reason our foreign policy is now at the mercy Chavez/Ahmadinejad
well in a way this will be a good thing, because finally americans are realizing how they need to conserve gas. And buy hybrid cars...and which means we dont have to depend on those middle easterns gas anymore/ Hopefully electric or hydrogen cars will reach higher technology
i agree hopefully they do but will they? no because too many people in powerful places have so much money tied into oil so why would they want to fund an alternative fuel source when they are making so much by investing in big oil.
Reducing fuel costs will be a mistake ... that only encourages waste. Biofuels are a bigger mistake. Improved fuel efficiency in the short term followed by development of technologies to ween American's off oil is the only solution.
Their not putting any money back into our economy. Thats the main reason our economy is failing. So quit assuming all Americans are rich because trust me I'm definitely not.
Allot of people outside America are saying "Why are you complianing, we pay 7 or 8 dollars a gallon here." OK well I bet your making allot more, if not double what I make and can afford it. I can't afford to just go out and buy a new car. Theres no public transportation here where I live, no public rail system. All the jobs have gone to other countries. They pay some 12 y/o kid to make the jeans or whatever and ship them to America and sell them for $30.00 and they keep the profits.
Allot of people outside America are saying "Why are you complaining, we pay 7 to 8 dollars a gallon here." OK but I can almost bet you make allot more, if not double what I do. I can't afford to just go out and buy a new car. There's no buses or public transportation here where I live. No public rail.
Well as true as that may be, there are poor people in other countries too. I live in the UK where we pay approximately $13 a gallon. I myself am pretty well off for which i am thankful, but the poor over here are suffering too.
At least you guys may have a good president soon and the whole world will appreciate it
Its our own fault people... If everybody refused to buy SUVs and large gas hogs, we would all be driving hydrogen right now.. check this out.. Do a search for "Free Energy - No Fuel Magnetic Motor"
Lets use bicycles, high speed intra-city train & subways, lets demand more bike trails for our cities, ethanol. bio-diesel, bio-mass for public transportation & convert our cars to use PHV(plugged in Hybrid Vehicles), flex fuel- we can do it & take on the oil lobby & OPEC, we can also use food as weapon against OPEC since they use oil against us.
They can send a man to the moon spend trillions on stupid war but why the hell cant they find a subsitute for gas the currently can be used w/ current engines.... If you dont want oil dependency get off of OIL!!
Dubai, Saudi's, and their cousins are building opulent projects by paying European contractors in Euros. The dollar has dropped vs the Euro, so they want more dollars. That drop is due to Bush tax cuts and pork-driven deficits, we now pay the insidious hidden tax of higher fuel costs. Sadly, our money is building palaces, grand condos, and shopping malls in Dubai, and paying off Wasabi radicals who support Al-queda. We could sure use it for sustainable energy, agriculture, industry. Wake up.
Barack is such a humble and honest person, the best that could happen to America and the world. Here in Germany we're all cheering for him cause he's the only one whos not making just a show to be applauded by the stupid mass crowd but who talks like a normal person like you and me.
Why doesn't he mention how much the government makes off oil? The government, both state and federal make more off each gallon of fuel than the oil companies do, and definitely more than the local retailer.
Sure, alternative energy is important, but the reason it's alternative is that the technology is only now coming to fruition. In the meantime, we've been floundering in regards to our current transportation energy sources; i.e. oil. Thanks for that goes to the government.
I used to live in Indiana and my family still does. In Indiana, the filling stations jack up the price every other Thursday and let them fall for two weeks and do it again. God, I live in Arizona and our prices have been steady while my parents have been paying more for their gasoline.
Buy better gas mileage cars. Keep your damn tires properly inflated, and don't drive if you don't have to!
LMFAO!!!!It's so funny that we're fuckin up the most powerful country in the world with the gas prices...I'm from Saudi Arabia and the gas prices in my country is 15 cents per Liter!!!
Well its happened, i have decided i will vote for who ever can lower the gas prices. EVEN IF IT IS HILARY. I am a real conservitive but this is crazy how much gas cost. SO I SAY THIS I WILL VOTE FOR WHOEVER CAN LOWER GAS PRICES, DONT CARE ABOUT THE BORDER, IM AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE BUT IF THE PRESIDENT WHO LEGALIZES GAY MARRIAGE CAN LOWER GAS PRICES........ IM VOTING FOR THAT PERSON. I HATE TO SELL OUT BUT I DONT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY.
I'd advise you to vote based on other issues because NONE of the presidential candidates have offered any real solutions to the fuel crisis. Obama and Hillary want to tax the big oil companies, but none of the candidates have mentioned how they would keep those taxes from being passed onto consumers. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be in such a bind if certain congress members would get out of the way and let us drill for oil, like President Bush has been suggesting for years.
Don't fall for it! NONE of the presidential candidates have offered any realistic solutions to skyrocketing gas prices. Yes, it does sound satisfying to tax the oil companies for "windfall profits", but who's really going to pick up the tab for that? The answer is ME AND YOU! The question we need to start asking congress is why are we at the mercy of OPEC when we have so much untapped oil right here in the U.S.?
dream prices... at the current exchange rates we pay $ 8,80 per gallon in germany right now. if the exchange rate was 1:1, it still would be 5,68 per gallon.
Oh, come on, can't you just start to drive more economical cars? An average European car does an average of 30 mpg while an average North American car does an average of 24 mpg (15 mpg for SUVs). That's a huge gap. Americans should just start to make more efficient cars. In Europe people often try to avoid American cars (except those designed and made in Europe) because those engines are just too big and what is the use of a big engine if you're not plowing your field or racing?
Some people just don't have a choice and can't just buy a more fuel efficient car. It's either pay the price of gas or have another car payment. Some people can't afford another car payment.
30 versus 24 mpg is not a huge gap; the important difference between Europe and NA is the amount of driving done per-capita, which is greatly influenced by the higher level of taxation on fuel in Europe.
The gas prices are not that bad considering the fat that most of the price includes taxes. Approximately 50-60% of the price of gas is in taxes. The government needs to cuts taxes on gas, however these taxes pay for the Highways, an road maintenance. If the tax is removed like Hillary wants the road maintenance will suffer and oil companies will raise prices to keep prices close to current levels. Thus raising their profits. Get smaller cars, my mom only using $15 per week on gas, Elantra.
I'm from switzerland. Gas Price in Switzerland = CHF 1.8/liter --> USD 6.851/gallon and guess what? it's much more cheaper than in whole europe... so I will not say you're lucky but I whish up here the gas price were as low as in the US. btw I drive american car. God bless low gas price! =)
this is why gas prices are high. the government sold out its own people. opec lobbyists "contribute" and funnel millions of dollars through congress. this ensures the u.s. contract with opec will allow opec to contoll the supply and demand market and congress will not challenge the rising prices. not to mention, the higher the price, the more money is made on taxes.
...There are many moral objectives in this world that can only be achieved when mankind is willing to cross the political, religious & cultural borders, and the candidacy of Mr. Obama embodies those elements. America is well equipped & capable of leading the moral journey of the unification of humanity, and Mr. Obama is an annointed soul that can lead America to carry the torch further.
Props to Obama for opposing this Washington IDIOCY.
"Why doesn't cutting the gas tax this summer make sense? It's Econ 101 tax incidence theory: if the supply of a good is more or less unresponsive to the price, the price to consumers will always rise until the quantity demanded falls to match the quantity supplied. Cut taxes, and all that happens is that the pretax price rises by the same amount."
Just Google this: mccain gas tax slammed as a bad idea
Finaaly someone is for governmant by the people and for the people way it was always meant to be! Not government for the lobbiest and pacs by the lobbists and pacs the way it has been for yrs. plus barrack will end the slowly sell off american to the canada mexican and chinese government and plus the freaking opec nations! Go obama 08/12!!!
Per war oil was 20 dallors a barrel during war 120 dallors a barrel! And barrack is right! Exxon profits in 2007 was 40 billion dallors! Pure profit!!!
I was in th uk last year and saw gas at 9.06 a liter at a bp in euros so that means that our gas price is not that bad, but their economies are good cause they have smaller cars and have adjusted to the gas crisis and ours sucks. Ethanol is not the solution cause we need corn for food and ethanol makes the price of corn jump so we cant afford it for food, its just a temporary fix. Personally I think we need to go to hydrogen run cars like they have in brazil.
Truth is OPEC has us by the balls! They know they can bring America to it's knees, and frankly, WW3 could come about by this greed. Wars have often come about due to a play for important resources, and oil is no different. It would not be surprising if the U.S., with it's back against the wall, invaded an Arab oil country in the future! The dollar is losing ground to the Euro as well, and we need NEW LEADERSHIP. Bush is a DISASTER on so many fronts. OBAMA is the best choice by far!
Goshhhhhh! I buy the cheapest gas ever... and I still end up paying 40 bucks for barely 11 gallons, which is not enough for even a week!... Fuck... Seriously, enough now! Where is this going?... I don't care if that's Obama or Clinton... I want the prices down!
People say Bush is an idiot, but its just all an act believe me, if he was an idiot would he win the election again? People say that 9/11 might have been planned for a reason to invade Iraq, Now Bush, Condoleezza Rice, DICK Chaney and all those people up there are sitting on a gold mine the oil of Iraq, that is the reason our gas prices went up like crazy, because there was a massive supply fromiraq so no more oil trade cus BUSH OWNS IT, people say he is an idiot but he made idiots out of us
by the end of the summer. PLEASE look into peak oil theory, I can tell from some of your comments that many of you are unfamiliar with it, which is understandable given its alarmingly low exposure in mainstream media. If you have any questions I will be MORE than happy to answer them or help you out in any way, I have done a lot of research on this over the last few years. Show that you care about your country, your family, and all of us, because it affects everyone. ps Go Obama
are not high because of price gauging or anything like that (although last year Exxon reported the highgest profits of any company ever). The reality is prices are high and they are only going to get higher, faster, and there's nothing we can do about it if we keep behaving like we have. We have already seen the beginning of this in the last few years. I remember not even 10 years ago when gas was priced at 50cents/litre (Canada), and now it is $1.25/litre and predicted to hit over $1.50 by
I know you all mean well, but there is one thing you have to know and please, PLEASEdo this. Google "Hubbert Peak Oil Theory" and just read up on what it is.This is not a fringer theory, it is the standard for geologists all around the world, its just not being reported in the media or by politicians because of its implications. I know you are angry because the oil companies/government/OPEC seem to make loads of money from oil, but the unfortunate truth is that prices
Yes the oil companies do have small margin of profit and no the prices aren't really goin to go down! the answer isn't cheap gas but an alternative fuel that doesn't deplete our food resources and can be produced from a renewable resource possibly hydrogen and buy the way he is the first candidate to layout an energy plan that at least makes sense and no one knows what any of the three candidates will really do once in office
123 "B"illion dollars in profits last year by those companies??????? Tooooo much money. And here we are, average americans, hurting our wallets just to put some fuel in our tanks. We're stuck in a rut.
The government that streamlined the IRS tax code will fix fuel prices? Should be very entertaining. BTW, Senators, thanks for voting against offshore oil drilling in a 100 mile limit off the coastal US. The Iranian allies will always sell us their spare crude capacity. In Euros. Union of Concerned Scientists, where is your 50-mpg hybrid? Greenpeace, you workin' on that problem? Didn't think so.
Stop with Ethanol, stop with BRIC demand, it is the WEAK DOLLAR - that is what is driving oil prices higher. Oil fell $3 a barrel when the Fed signaled a halt to rate cuts last week (before the Iranian boats where fired on). Oil and food costs are significantly higher because hundreds of billions of dollars are trying to find a place to hide from Ben Bernanke - and they are parking in Commodities for now. Just take a minute to and Google the latest DOE releases. Supply is fine.
What he is saying is that it is supply and demand. At the moment, the oil companies have no compitition and they move as a bloc. We need another way, remove ourselves from the tytanny of oil and all the bad actors that are in play.
I had my reservations about Barack (and all candidates), but he's really starting to appeal to me as well. This may very well be the first time I have ever voted in the 30 years I've been alive.
i dont know what you are complaining about. the current gas price in the us at aprox. $4 per gallon. the current price in germany is €1,45 per liter which is €5,5 per gallon or $8,5 per gallon. so who has high gas proces now ?!
Yeah, but our gas prices are good at were they are in soo many reasons, if it continues to stay down, the world will lose oil and we could end up living in the past again. I wish the hover cars come soon instead. and I hope gas prices stay this way until then.
Stop thinking about yourself, its our children that will suffer in the future!
US oil company's margins are small. Exxon's margin was 11.5% in 2007. Governments make far more from gasoline taxes than the oil companies make. The large majority of the money goes to oil-producing foreign governments. The US government can do absolutely nothing about that except to CUT SPENDING so the dollar is worth more. Taxing the US oil companies is the worst possible thing they could do. Finding out how the prices are set? -- why doesn't he google? It works exactly like the stock market.
But when it came time to stand up against the oil companies and stand against Dick Cheney's energy bill, Obama voted for it and Hillary voted against it. And that bill had billions of dollars in giveaways to the oil companies. It was the best bill that the energy companies could buy.
Regular gas here (Whatcom County, Washington) just hit 3.84/gallon at shell. How am I expected to pay for that in a country where 1% of the population controls over 40% of the wealth?
I'm sorry, but McCain doesn't even come CLOSE to saying anything that makes as much sense as this. And Clinton may, but we simply can't take her word for it, she's probably lying.
It is OPEC not big oil that is making the profit off of high gas prices. Gas would be $1.00 a gallon if it were not for OPEC price fixing and OPEC is on target to make almost a trillion dollars in profit in 2008. The main stream media , however, ran in 2007 43 stories on oil companies profits ( big business often associate with Republicans) and 3 stories on OPEC profits.
exactly my feeling. Clinton is just ruining Obama's chances in 2008. She doesn't understand that this hurts the party as well. I never thought she would be so greedy that she would risk four more years of Bush-McCain.
Because there are too many folks like Rush Limbaugh who want to divide the Democratic Party and keep it divided between Obama backers and Hillary Clinton backers.
Limbaugh dreams of riots at the Democratic Convention. The guy is an idiot.
I like Obama's ideas on how to combat rising fuel costs.
By what right does Obama call something a "windfall"? How bright to you have to be to take something from one person and give it to another? The largest share of the gas price is TAXES, not profit.
I love OBAMA and it seems that he is at his best when he's given time to think.... He's like me. We're not at our best just talking in the heat of the moment- out the side of our neck...
However, he needs to have his position and proposals for his energy policy downpact... Reading from an essay seems like it's not as urgent as he hold it to actually be... But, I'm confident he does at heart though...
Alternative energy advances such as algae based biofuels, the Mcgyan process to make biofuel more effectively, wind, solar, and new batteries/ultra capacitors by eestor and others, have the potential to make great changes. The oil companies may be seeing the writing on the wall and wish to cash in while they can-our economic needs be damned.Over a year ago business 2.0 had an article about the shake ups coming.
08/05"Passage of energy bill highlights lack of united Democratic opposition"Harder for progressives and enviros to swallow was the support it got from Sen.Obama, who expressed disappointment that the bill wasn't more bold but still went so far as to call the legislation"a first step toward decreasing America's dependence on foreign oil."
Who wrote his speech? Obama you voted for the energy bill. Just makes me think about your motives. Please no hate mail back to me. If you want to debate, we can do that. O.K.?
Once in 100 years, a great man comes along and runs for President of the United States. We cannot allow this man to lose. Please if you're from Indiana, vote for Mr. Obama on May 6th. He really is our best hope for the future.
Gas prices are Obama's big competitive advantage. I think everyone is ready to vote for someone who isn't taking money from PAC's and federal lobbyists representing the oil industry.
Americans have learned their lesson and will never again vote for another C.E.O. of a defense contractor and an oil company. The Project for the New American Century, and its Bush-McCain "Neo-Conservative" policies, will no longer be able to use wars to increase speculation in the oil markets.
Gas prices now are $3.69 per gallon here in my hometown of Lancaster, PA. Now that is definitely expensive. But... Try going to California where in some places are exceeding 5 dollars.
Hillary, enough is enough, at the beginning I was a supporter of yours, but now your negativity is just too much~~please do democratic party a favor, just go...you are not going to win by the vote~~~
Sen. Obama is right. Hillary and John Mccain talk about all the experience they have, but nothing has change. I for one am ready for a fresh appraoch. Not the same old politics that has been dominating washington. I truly believe that if Sen. Obama is elected to office we will start to see some changes, and not just in gas prices. Change is long over due, and Obama is our man.
right... you failed to mention how 20% of the price of gas compromises TAXES! and the profit margin of gas companies is only 9%. TIME TO AXE THE GOVERNMENT!
I'd take no flying cars, but no solar energy? There are some folks who have solar energy, but it should be something that every American has. Barack Obama let's go let's create a great energy policy and create "green collar" jobs!
He still hasn't addressed what he will do with the gas prices as they are. We know how the problem started, we know what we'll need to do "eventually" (energy independence, etc). How will he change the "system" on day one? I'm for Obama 110%, but I need this addressed NOW. To the Obama Campaign, please tell him to address this. Adding taxes to the Oil and energy companies will just increase the current price of gas. Adding tax cuts gives Americans $, but doesn't change the price of gas..........
Thank you for your honesty. Even as well as the Clintons did in the White House, there were many things they did not tell us. And like the energy situation there many things the Clintons could have done better for our environment & dependance on the ancient & obsolete combustion engine. I will help any way I can even though I only have a minimum wage job, with no benefits & very little money.
Jobs! Homes! Fuel prices is on the top list of things we think about all the time, John and Hilary been in the Political arena for a long time and things are not better, the other canindates are good to themselves and dont apologize about it either.even the dogs get the crumbs from the childrens table how much are we U.S citizens worth than dogs, BARACK 2008 for President!
Yes I want a change! I want people to pay thier own way in life. Earned income tax credit!!!!!!! A tax refund when you don't even pay taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a extra tax on wind fall profits will only increase gas prices!!!!!!!!!!! and is illegal, if you want everything to be equal why should certain people and companies pay more than others. I am tired of people in this country who think the government should pay all of thier bills for them while they sit at home. If you want something better go out and work for it. I work to jobs and you want to raise my taxes to pay for people that don't work!
That is your basic Democrat vs Republican scenario. Dems know that its the working man that is the backbone of an economy. Repubs believe its business; that giving business tax cuts that it will trickle down to the working man by way of higher wages and more job positions. There is a flaw to this Republican logic. That is that it assumes the business ownere will actually KEEP the business here and not ship it overseas and will be spent towards the business. WRONG. Why?Didnt ask for it or need it
Senator Obama, look, I love you and you're campaign, and I hope you win the presidency, but by mentioning Dick Cheney's energy bill, you give Hillary the chance to mention you voting Yea on that energy bill. I heard her mention it during debate, and you didn't say that you didn't, so I assume that you did. So be careful!
"The twentieth century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy."
Yes, although his speech is written, he doesn't have to worry about choosing the words while speaking in an effort to not say things or use words that will be twisted and spun out of control, I think this is the best manner in which he and Michelle should speak because even though many may take their words as they are meant, many will take them and make them what they want he world to accept them as, so it is good in my opinion.
I have the impression as if Barack is bored, as if he is thinking "well, I told you this about 20 times - do I really have to say this over and over again?". He sounds like a reporter... he should "hope up" his speeches again.
Hillary won't won't win the primary. She's too far behind. At the moment, her mean and nasty style of politics is going to make her career crash and burn.
Very well put Sen. Obama. When you tell it like it is, not much else needs to be said. We are tired of the same politics of no change and special interest - that's why I vote for you - especially for the sake and future of this country.
obama should be the next president. 1) he's young enough and old enough-it helps appeal to all sorts of audiences and voters. 2) he has a plan-... self explanitory. 3) i like him he believes in everything i do. 4) he can say the word nuclear! (by the way im not old enough to vote but... if i could he would definitely have my vote)
I live in Indianapolis. And want to meet him so very bad. I think he will turn this country around and get us out of this ridiculous hole Bush has gotten into.
Someone needs to tell me how raising the taxes on oil companies will lower the cost of gas. When has a tax increase EVER lowered prices for consumers? Obama all the way. I agree with him on every issue. He has to win! Obama 08.
But please vote regardless of who you are for. Every vote counts, and this is a election that will go down in history. Be a part of it.

This guy has no idea what he's talking about. The reason why gas is expensive is that Democrats in Congress won't let us drill and the last time we've built a new refinery was 30 years ago. All because of radical environmentalists!!!

Gas prices=Supply and Demand
Energy security=Domestic energy rather than foreign oil.
Solutions=Domestic oil (drill here)-yes, Nuclear Power-yes, Domestic Natural Gas-yes, Solar Power-yes, Wind Power-yes.

Want to take on big oil & OPEC?:
Lets use bicycles, high speed intra-city train & subways, lets demand more bike trails for our cities, ethanol. bio-diesel, bio-mass for public transportation & convert our cars to use PHV(plugged in Hybrid Vehicles), flex fuel- we can do it & take on the oil lobby & OPEC, we can also use food as weapon against OPEC since they use oil against us.

Wake up.

I'd advise you to vote based on other issues because NONE of the presidential candidates have offered any real solutions to the fuel crisis. Obama and Hillary want to tax the big oil companies, but none of the candidates have mentioned how they would keep those taxes from being passed onto consumers. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be in such a bind if certain congress members would get out of the way and let us drill for oil, like President Bush has been suggesting for years.
strum456 3 years ago
Don't fall for it! NONE of the presidential candidates have offered any realistic solutions to skyrocketing gas prices. Yes, it does sound satisfying to tax the oil companies for "windfall profits", but who's really going to pick up the tab for that? The answer is ME AND YOU! The question we need to start asking congress is why are we at the mercy of OPEC when we have so much untapped oil right here in the U.S.?
strum456 3 years ago 18
dream prices... at the current exchange rates we pay $ 8,80 per gallon in germany right now. if the exchange rate was 1:1, it still would be 5,68 per gallon.

Klokjvaarpsta 3 years ago 5
Some people just don't have a choice and can't just buy a more fuel efficient car. It's either pay the price of gas or have another car payment. Some people can't afford another car payment.
jsonbass 3 years ago 3
30 versus 24 mpg is not a huge gap; the important difference between Europe and NA is the amount of driving done per-capita, which is greatly influenced by the higher level of taxation on fuel in Europe.
161803 3 years ago
The gas prices are not that bad considering the fat that most of the price includes taxes. Approximately 50-60% of the price of gas is in taxes. The government needs to cuts taxes on gas, however these taxes pay for the Highways, an road maintenance. If the tax is removed like Hillary wants the road maintenance will suffer and oil companies will raise prices to keep prices close to current levels. Thus raising their profits. Get smaller cars, my mom only using $15 per week on gas, Elantra.

this is why gas prices are high. the government sold out its own people. opec lobbyists "contribute" and funnel millions of dollars through congress. this ensures the u.s. contract with opec will allow opec to contoll the supply and demand market and congress will not challenge the rising prices. not to mention, the higher the price, the more money is made on taxes.

Reason for high gas prices:
Weak dollar - (thank George Bush's irresponsible spending, expensive wars, and the trade deficit because of outsourcing)
The rise in demand (in part because of the growth of China - Bush and Clinton are the causes for that)

OBAMA is the best choice by far!

are not high because of price gauging or anything like that (although last year Exxon reported the highgest profits of any company ever).

Union of Concerned Scientists, where is your 50-mpg hybrid? Greenpeace, you workin' on that problem? Didn't think so.
zupf 3 years ago
Stop with Ethanol, stop with BRIC demand, it is the WEAK DOLLAR - that is what is driving oil prices higher. Oil fell $3 a barrel when the Fed signaled a halt to rate cuts last week (before the Iranian boats where fired on). Oil and food costs are significantly higher because hundreds of billions of dollars are trying to find a place to hide from Ben Bernanke - and they are parking in Commodities for now. Just take a minute to and Google the latest DOE releases. Supply is fine.

JiveDadson 3 years ago
But when it came time to stand up against the oil companies and stand against Dick Cheney's energy bill, Obama voted for it and Hillary voted against it. And that bill had billions of dollars in giveaways to the oil companies. It was the best bill that the energy companies could buy.

I know what you mean, but i trust obama and so i believe it probably was better for the country then the alternative.

Is it just me, or is Barack speaking much quicker here than normal?
eXcommunicate1979 3 years ago 10
Yes, although his speech is written, he doesn't have to worry about choosing the words while speaking in an effort to not say things or use words that will be twisted and spun out of control, I think this is the best manner in which he and Michelle should speak because even though many may take their words as they are meant, many will take them and make them what they want he world to accept them as, so it is good in my opinion.

I have the impression as if Barack is bored, as if he is thinking "well, I told you this about 20 times - do I really have to say this over and over again?". He sounds like a reporter... he should "hope up" his speeches again.

I had the same impression..maybe he had to deliver a quick speech: ) I dunno.. I prefer the slower speaking Obama.
But that's just luxury at this point, because I care most about what he says.

He's not speaking too quick you're just thinking too slow.

And much worse. It's sad. This election has definitely affected him.

If America shows wisdom and courage, Obama will be our new President!

obama should be the next president.
