Jimmie is a good driver. He in my mind is a 2 time champion. The whole chase setup screwed up championships for people like Jeff Gordon in '04 and '07, Carl Edwards in '08, and Kevin Harvick in '10. Even though nothing I say will change that it basically says if you start the chase 12th you can still win, even if you were 200 points behind 1st before the chase started. Those 3 drivers in those 4 years were great all season but they lost because of the Chase

It does look intentional from most of the camera angles, it's not until you see the overhead angle that you do see the wiggle in Rusty's car that gets him out of shape, Rusty tries to correct the car and slightly oversteers and it just taps Gordon's car. As an impartial Nascar fan if you are truely interested in the truth and not I hate Rusty or I hate Gordon you can see it for yourself. at 3:25 you can see Rusty's car get a bit loose.

I will defend Rusty on this forever. Gordon laid the bumper to Rusty more times than I can count. Half of Gordon's wins at Bristol alone came from bumping Rusty in the final laps.

People are complaining a lot today about how Jimmie Johnson wins too much. Well the year this happened Jeff Gordon won 13 races. That's why the fans absolutely loved it when this happened. And yeah, Jeff sure had it coming after he bumped Rusty out of the way in the final turn at Bristol in '97. This is the way to pay someone back, you do it on a short track. Not at a track over a mile in length. Yeah, I'm talking to you Carl Edwards...

Blatantly dumping someone in the middle of the race is quite a bit different than merely moving them on the last lap, while battling for the win. you remember the fall race at bristol in 1999? when earnhardt payed terry labonte back from the 1995 bristol race. earnhardt got him a lap earlier that time and won. of course terry tried to wreck him 1st he just done it to early.

i didn't like jeff at the time, but he really did deserve that. sitting there and bumping the guy in front of him, someone who he bumped out of the way at bristol the prev. year and practically done the same thing at charlotte a few weeks before. i would have done the same thing. anybody would have. some people need taught not to bump and run all the time. but damn did jeff make them pay for it. what 16 consecutive top 5's and 19 consecutive top 10's in a row after this?

It does look intentional from most of the camera angles, it's not until you see the overhead angle that you do see the wiggle in Rusty's car that gets him out of shape, Rusty tries to correct the car and slightly oversteers and it just taps Gordon's car. As an impartial Nascar fan if you are truely interested in the truth and not I hate Rusty or I hate Gordon you can see it for yourself. at 3:25 you can see Rusty's car get a bit loose.
Wrecks always look intentional on shortracks.

Gordon nudged Rusty out of the way at Bristol several times. HE DIDN'T WRECK HIM! RUSTY PLAIN WRECKED JEFF! Totally uncalled for. How do you win races on Saturday night short tracks- by bumping the other driver out of the way. Black flag should've flown on this one.

I will defend Rusty on this forever. Gordon laid the bumper to Rusty more times than I can count. Half of Gordon's wins at Bristol alone came from bumping Rusty in the final laps.
Was this a cheap shot? sure. Regardless, Gordon used to dish out the same shit only he wasn't used to being on the receiving end.
Granted Gordon is a very clean racer now, but back then was an entirely different story. All Rusty did was return the favor. Sure it was on purpose, but Gordon had it coming to him.
