  • Great track from the brilliant Rise and Fall album. One day, people will realise that this band were far more than just a bunch of, admittedly great, early 80's singles and they will be appreciated as the true artists they were. One day...

  • The brass is orgasmic, the song would lend itself to a fab video.

  • Possibly the best Madness song ever, from their best album.

  • so trippy :D.

  • Any Madness fan should know, and love, this song.I think it's brilliant a worthy inclusion in the Madness song book.

  • May I recommend the book 'A Concise Guide To Eighties' Music' by Karl Vorderman. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • I love it

  • barso maestro :)

  • just heard someone do the keyboards to this didn,t realise how good they were on this track.

  • Although I've never been there, I wish I was there still! Madness!

  • can ya pleeaaase upload calling card..

  • although ive never been up that hill ..i wish i was there still.....nutty4ever!!!

  • see the world go past.... :)

  • I know it off by hart.

  • Amazingly, despite their nutty image, alot of madness's songs are very melancholy and depressing, with a lot of political and dark undertones. This album was slated by NME when it came out, but it is by far madness's crowning glory.

    Thank you for sharing

  • this song has really matured well, i remember buying this album in the 80s, and not liking it, but now rise and fall is my fav, love the brassy bit in this number, my six year old daughter loves to march around the kitchen listening to it.

  • Thanks a lot for sharing. I love Madness too.

  • this is my fav track on the rise and fall album. dont no why? just stands out 4 some reason.

  • hmm... is it more or does this song sound rather Christmasy? .. I was listening to this song when I was diagnosed with Swine Flu in November :L

  • lets face it people the boys done well didnt they ,any of you lot seen there film take it or leave it ? if you haven t get it true top film made by the boys funny sad punch ups and so forth well worth a watch ive had it since time began i dont think ill ever follow a group as much as i have madness ,yes i was a skinhead but a proper one i wasnt rascist at all

  • im from texas but im a pretty big madness fan as well.... i am 23. i have most every madness album cd..shirt..poster... take it or leave it... :D

    love madness

  • One of their best!

  • Takes me back the 27 years in a second. Truly fantastic band and tune.

  • All the songs on Rise and Fall are depicted in the poses by the band, and yes Primrose Hill being the location used.

A gem of a song, very underrated songwriters and performers, they wern't given the recognition because of their nutty 'Keystone Kops' image.

  • If I'm not mistaken they (Madness) are on Primrose Hill on the album cover. One of my fave Madness tunes in fact the whole bloody album is timeless! Can't believe it's 27 years old.

  • only 812 views ??? why do so called madness fans only know their hits ?? this is the real madness !!!

  • Because they ain't real fans! Madness are to blame for that ever time they play they do their hits its annoying for fans who love their other gems.

  • have to agree. 1 of my fav madness albums. change of style and mood. brilliant this track.

  • My fave song off a very underated album,Tiptoes and Rise and fall are excellent tracks too.I remember a mate getting this album on Tape and we camped in his garden and played this album virtually all night, this and madness 7 are my fave albums.

  • The best

  • WOT A FUCKIN TUNE!

  • Ah memories. Love this song.

I'm trying to find the studio version of March of the Gherkins on You Tube. Can't find it anywhere. Only a live recording.

  • i love this song, one of the best on the album unfortunately i cant find my cd anywhere

  • Try Mp3. That's what I had to do. If you find the album available it's wayyyy expensive.

  • Very cool indeed
