  • must have been the shoes

  • it was not the gas pedal

  • @thewarzoneking Yes I know - I believe I was one of the first to mention it and ask fora reward - see other videos

  • im not familiar with this entire situation but i think the idea was that if you have some kind of rubber floor mats the pedal can get stuck on or underneath the mat when you "floor it " correct me if im wrong ... take a look at this : usrecallnews"dot"com/2009/09/toyota-recalls-3-8-million-vehicles-gas-pedals-sticking.html

  • @ilia93 Yes there was a recall with stuck floor mats - but this was an issue for every car maker not just Toyota - it was a red herring as they say - the final report made it clear it was driver error - brake pedal mis-application

  • @carquestions yes but arent they doing the recall because of that or because of other defects in the pedal ?

  • Why cant automakers go back to the old mechanical design? Since when was there ever a real problem with those? The only time Ive heard of a stuck throttle that way is when a cars secondaries on the carb got stuck open!

  • If those pedals are built anything like a heavy truck pedal... There's a idle validation switch along with an accelerator sensor.

  • "its pretty much all plastic..... "

    yep typical Japanese quality lol....

that's why i buy Swedish and German, only genuine sturdy materials on those cars.....

no Happy-Meal China plastic here on my Mercedes or Saab...

Americans will buy any cheap piece of shit they can get, (toyota).

  • @Howie262 You do realize that the reliability of many European cars is not so great right? Check Consumer Reports if you don't believe me. I'd pit my Honda against ANY European car. My family used to swear by Volvo and Merc in the 70's and 80's but they suck these days. You're paying a premium for nothing but a badge or ego boost. Except perhaps better handling, I'll grant that to BMW and Merc. US freeways are an excellent place to test your skills, oh wait...

  • @ElroyMcDuff Eh i disagree bro, just take a look at new these japanese cars interiors. Its at the point where i dont even laugh anymore...

I remember looking at a 2011 accord in an auto show and the door handles i kid you not, were made from literally " Happy Meal " plastic.... The kind where you can see the recycled melted down inconsistency of it...

Out of that car show, the best interior would have to go to the new e350 Mercedes wagon we saw.

No Bias about it either bro...

  • @Howie262 Howie, you're buying a CAR, not a house. Unless you commute for hours each day, worrying about the interior quality is pointless. The softness of the dash or the plushness of the carpet matters how much when you're tooling around at 65mph??? The main selling points for me are safety and reliability. I've never doubted whether or not my Honda will start, it just does. I seriously doubt you could say the same of any 18 year old Euro car.

  • @ElroyMcDuff You're right in that matter, but what i was tying to say is integrity......

sometimes if you're interior is made from shit, everything else is too (Engines, hoses etc...)

    And i have a 12 year old saab 95, and a 22 year old MercedesBenz 190e cosworth...

    Start up everytime...

but you wouldnt even know about these types of cars..... because only enthusiasts who actualy like cars know shit about them...

Go on, go to google, because you dont even know what i said..

    go on bro...

  • @Howie262 Hmm, I should have said "I seriously doubt you could say the same of any MODERN Euro car." Grats on your older models but I doubt current ones would hold up as well. Euro models get FAR more black marks in Consumer Reports, which is based on owner experiences etc.

C'mon, you're exaggerating about the interior quality etc. There's a reason Japan sells more cars than most other makers.

Pft, I can do a tune-up and have even swapped out motors many moons ago - don't assume too much...

  • @ElroyMcDuff Well to be honnest, i could care less about consumer reports...... 1st being that most people in america....... about 80 % are fucking retarded.....

Let me give you a perspective... did you know a lot of Americans believe that dinosaurs walked this earth about 4,000 years ago......

tells you right there... why would i care about what they say, when CLEARLY.... My experiences with high quality Sturdy Germans cars proves otherwise....

Although, im not shure about your Toyota Recalls

  • @Howie262 Haha, true. Nevermind that we have rocks that are BILLIONS of years old on this planet. How your faith in "quality Sturdy Germans(sic)" cars relates to that is for you and you alone to realize.

We'll just have to "agree to disagree" bro. Your overpriced and overhyped Euro cars vs sensible and reliable Japanese cars. We all win. You get a boost to your fragile, "I need an expensive car to be a man" ego and we get to giggle at your expense. Euro cars are crap these days, face it.

  • @ElroyMcDuff The example was to show you how retarded people like you are in America...

keep "laughing" bro. Seeing how your small dick asian friends have the time of their lives copping and cloning our technology....

Really sir... i laugh every time i see cars like Kia Almanti's ( dumbasses like you who buy cheap clone mockery's of High quality cars )

All i know is my Saab And Mercedes or Solid bro. Keep on that "over-priced" snobby bs. Also keep on that Kia Almanti lol........

    you lame...

  • @Howie262 I didn't think it would take long for you to start with the insults. Volvo is now owned by the Chinese - good luck with that. Merc used to be tied up with who, Chrysler? Yuck. Saab was owned by GM and is now owned by the Dutch, neat. BMW may still be independent but their reliability is still below average, same as the rest. If Euro cars are so fantastic why do they keep selling themselves out to other nations? Has Honda or Toyota ever been in foreign hands? No? There you go.

  • @ElroyMcDuff I insult you because you really are stating false facts......

Diamler AG owned Chrysler, not the other way around. That has nothing to do with anything bro. you're such an idiot XD

Honda= the american brand of "ACURA "

LEXUS= Luxury export US market. "LEXUS"

Nissan= American brand of "INFINITY "

Japanese cars are hardly made in japan bro. you have no idea wtf you're talking about. MOST ARE US MADE. Look at the facts when you go to a dealer..!

  • @Howie262 Heh, my saying "tied up" in no way implied that Chrysler owned Mercedes. I was merely saying that the two were involved with each other, understand?

Many Japanese makers use two names, one is the cheaper version and one is the "luxury" version and they're BOTH sold here... DUH

So what if Japanese cars are built here? I know my Honda was made in Ohio and it's the best car I've ever had. You do realize that has a BMW has a plant in South Carolina right? OMG OMG =P

  • @ElroyMcDuff Yes i know what you meant, i know how to read unlike you kid. but it has no relevance in your argument. Mercedes owning Chrysler at one point doesnt mean anything. Whats your point???

yes, bro, everyone knows BMW along with other European cars are built in America too...

But anyways, im done arguing with your lame ass.......

LOL! XD freekin honda driver... no wonder you dont know anything about cars...

    keep driving your slow honda....

    good bye....

  • @Howie262 Well, you have poor comprehension skills then because you read something different into what I said and you make dumb assertions and associations. Honda is NOT the "american brand of Acura" etc.

Oh, and learn how to capitalize words and punctuate sentences properly. Who is the "idiot" now eh? Haha!

Heh, don't worry I'll keep driving my "slow honda" (another moronic comment among many). I hope you buy a NEW Mercedes or BMW some day - then you'll FINALLY understand. Toodles!

  • its all media hype,,no one has yet to find a sticking pedal in a toyota just google it

  • Toyota Refuses to fix Toyota Camry SE 2011 power steering pump whinning. Vondalette White at Toyota Customer Experience at corporate told me to go ahead and post vidio's it won't hurt toyota sales. so look at them.

Toyotacameryse is my you tube id

  • @ToyotaCamerySE they refuse to fix it cause it aint broke,,,your telling me your 2011 camry has a whinning power steering pump?really how about if i told you THEY DONT HAVE POWER STEERING ANYMORE,,,its all electronic controled so your complaint is full of shit..they havent used p/s pumps for some time now,,dumb ass

  • @getnhigh247, How the fuck hard is it to turn off the car if it's running out of control? TURN THE FUCKIN KEY IDIOT. These runaways are easily fixed.. I wonder why no one tried to turn it off??? Hmm Lets see. Obviously someone was being an idiot. There is no hardware or software issue. It's just a driver issue. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

  • everything is built cheap as crap nowadays, it has been for years, cars are no exception, I just got rear ended by a newer acura and it totaled their car and just scratched my bumper. It was cool because I received a 600 dollar insurance check just for a scuff on my bumper! The acura was messed up, bumper fell off, headlights exploded out, radiator damaged, hood bent up, fenders bent back in to the front tires. Point is do not buy newer cars! they are built out of plastic and are not safe!

  • @Napalmdeath420 The thing is Napalm, cars are designed to crumple these days. It absorbs the impact energy and keeps YOU safe. The car is expendable, you and your family are not.

  • @ElroyMcDuff The thing is, I would still like to drive away after being in a little fender bender that has little to no chance of harming you. Bumpers on cars just fall off with the slightest pressure, they are not BUMPERS, if they cannot withstand a BUMP! Yea they are safer, that's why they have to cut bodies out of cars with the jaws of life..... LOL! NAH, ill stick with my metal car, thanks!

  • @Napalmdeath420 Ok, here's a crash test showing a 1959 Chevy crashing into a 2009 Chevy.

    watch?v=xtxd27jlZ_g

The 1959 should be more solid right? Wrong, it crumpled just as much as the '09 but in much worse ways. All kinds of things intruded into the passenger compartment. The ONLY advantage the 1959 had was weight but it still failed due to poor design. Cars are made to be crumple in bad crashes these days, it saves lives. Why drive an old car when you can have airbags, ABS, etc etc?

  • @ElroyMcDuff ok, i seen the vid, but in my case, i got rear ended by an acura and it completely ripped off their bumper, bent the fender up in to the tire, exploded the headlights, cracked the radiator, bent the hood up, and i believe even cracked their windshield. my car had literally a scuff and a crack on the bumper, that's it, no metal bent in, no tail lights exploding, no trunk crumpling up, plus my bumper is half plastic and half metal, it is an 87 olds calais, trust me i was surprised.

  • @Napalmdeath420 I could see in a low speed crash how a stiffer car might be more desirable in terms of parts but that's the only plus. I think you're lucky the Acura's crumple zone seems to have absorbed most of the energy of the impact. These days it's the safety of the occupants that matters, not saving bits of car. I'd rather replace a car's entire front end than risk injury or death.

    Here are a few more:

    watch?v=rIKu1UDoa6s (SUV vs minivan)

    watch?v=86M_fV-1yKY (big Volvo vs sedan)

  • Plastic parts, where there should be metal parts, funny! Ill stick with my old reliable detroit iron built out of metal. I wouldn't sneeze on that pedal, it would probably snap! Yup ill stick with my Oldsmobile!

  • @cartercl If you notice, the Plastic is black. Carbon makes plastic black, and therefore reinforces the structure. Also the arm holding the brake pad is made of grouped up triangles. Triangles are one of the stronger shaped to build with. That's why you see bridges built with triangles. And also the type of plastic used. Polycarbonate Plastic is pretty strong actually.

  • accelerators dont need to be electrical i mean seriously toyota wtf is ur problem. Technology is getting out of hand.

  • @stashdash, All major car companies are doing this. I hate having my throttle controlled by a computer. Unless you have a "performance" car there is noticeable throttle lag, and you loose connection with the vehicle. Why are electronic throttles happening? To make your car "cushy" and "quiet" like you want. The throttle cable transmits road noise and whatnot to the interior. it's all a trade off. I'd prefer cable throttles (which are much more prone to jamming open) because of the "feel"

  • looks like a shitty pedal after 150,000 miles (or most likely less) of wear and tear it it might just snap on you. Don't stomp on it too hard.

  • SOFTWARE PROBLEM NEED TO DO THERE HOMEWORK ..

  • @voyager73, First off, It is spelled "Their". Second of all it's not a software issue. It's a driver issue. Plain and simple.

  • @mediarocker543 No, he spelled and used "THERE" just fine. You're actually the one incorrectly using it. "THEIR" is the possessive form.

  • Comment removed

  • WTF since when was the accelerator electrical !??!

  • @errorserver3000 The first "drive by wire" vehicle that I am aware of is the 1994 Ford Powerstroke F250/F350

  • @getnhigh247 Are you kidding? Where have you been? This is the Audi 5000 all over again - no car had a defective computer - just a defective driver. If you are scared of computers you'd better be warned whatever you have flown in or driven in in the past 20 years has had some form of computer control. Unless of course you have been using a bicycle exclusively for the past 20 years.

  • @carquestions I'm well aware its not all the computers fault. But the trend of late is more computers are being assigned to do tasks they shouldnt be more so in Newer Green Cars ;). Computers are just being used where they are completely unrequired. Toyota/Lexus is still Horrible :).

  • @carquestions He's from Denmark. He probably doesn't own a car. The screen name reveals much about his character as well.

  • LOL you Americans...first learn how to drive... then go claiming your car doesn't work like it is supposed to. In every other country everything works fine... but in USA theres always some bullshit talk and greed.

  • @getgankednub I do agree with you that American drivers are the worst. Especially bitches, however I always happen to find myself behind a gook in the left lane doing 50 in a 65... :-/

  • The problem was not with the pedal. It was with the floor mats! People would stack floor mats over each other and they would get in between the pedal and the side of the center dash panel. To solve this problem, Toyota and Lexus removed the floor mats they had, replaced them with "oem" mats, and shaved the bottom of the pedal. (yes they cut the plastic). They also re-flashed the computer so that if the accelerator pedal and brake were depressed at the same time, the computer would slow down.

  • There's someone sponsoring idiots to make hoaxes about Toyotas.

  • @cartercl No one has ever found a malfunctioning pedal in any of the accidents that were reported.

  • so this has been out since 2003, and was made in the same city as the old tundras, im gonna assume it was on those trucks, how come we didnt hear of this problem till 08 or 09? im gonna reluctantly call bs on the whole false acclerating claim, well atleast on the gas pedal being the problem. ive owned a toyota tundra (truck was recalled) for nearly a year and a half and have had no problem like that at all

  • @CODEEmx527 It was mass hysteria and mass media misinformation - NASA hasn't found the bug yet either - so they're either really slow or have found nothing

  • @CODEEmx527 The 2000-2004 (atleast, possibly through 2006, I havent looked at those) have mechanical throttles. The only way for the throttle to stick is a mechanical failure, like something being lodged in the throttle body.

  • I prefer old type mechanical pedals with a steel wire attached to the intake manifold flap and the instructions to the computer done by other means and sensors.

Less possible to fuck up at the pedal level(where it gets the most abuse and therefore less chances to go wrong.

  • @GM572 there is no intake manifold or carb. on modern cars LOL

  • @force311999

They don't have carbs, that's true, but ALL engines have an intake manifold(where the air gets sucked in the engine and distributed to all the cylinders) and an exhaust manifold(where the exhaust gases from all the cylinders converge to a single pipe). I'm just sayin' that my car has a simple mechanical pedal and a steel wire going to a flap, the rest of the commands being controlled by a computer and sensors. Less chances to fail where it takes the most abuse(the foot level).

  • toyota explained it all about a year ago. the pedals were not the problems it was the loose nut behind the wheel. safety is never on toyota mind only money. i worked for toyota and those cars and trucks are junk.

  • Brakes are always stronger than the engine is to turn the wheels so, just another ploy to make people buy domestic(in my opinion)

  • Toyota secretly bought back from U.S. consumers vehicles it found with speed-control defects as part of a strategy to hide unintended-acceleration problems from safety regulators and the public, a revised lawsuit claims

  • @caganb Secret? Then how would you know? I think you mean NHTSA bought the Lexus from Rhonda Smith? You got some real info post the source.

  • @carquestions

google search "Toyota accused of secretly buying back cars". Only 39,300 results. According to an ''expert" like you.. sudden acceleration could never happen.

  • @garyomglol According to me - I've said sudden acceleration is caused by human error which I've said for 11 months now and which time has shown to be correct. Thats quite different than saying sudden acceleration doesn't happen. If you want to misquote someone get it right.

  • @garyomglol According to you that implies something; which in fact does NOT.

  • us government make up all those crap just want to take down japanese cars, so they can rescue their crappy american cars.

  • thats just scary to not have a cable connection

  • @superfly1842

very few if any, planes, trains or cars have them these days - everything is fly by wire

  • @carquestions My 1964 Cadillac and the 1963 Impala I'm going to get have cables. No Stuck Accelerators for me thanks.

  • @Supergungun The original vehicles you refer to didn't have cables - they had steel rods and hinges

  • @carquestions That still means NO STUCK ELECTRONIC ACCELERATORS.

  • @Supergungun

Probably because they didn't use computers in cars in the 60's. Just a guess though

  • @reddot44 More likely to go wrong and much worse when it does.

  • Yes, looks fairly robust and reliable construction. Although the magnets might attract some crap.

So, chances are the problem is a software bug that the manufacturers haven't identified, possibly because the software was designed by a third party - and they want proof it's their system at fault before they will undertake a costly investigation!

So, flapping about with a shim to increase spring pressure is a placebo.

  • @063209dr The magnets are so week very little sticks to them. You're right about the placebo but off on the computer glitch. The saylor /lexus crash was back in summer 09 - The space shuttle disaster took less time to investigate. It's not the computer - its pedal position and people. If NHTSA, NASA or anyone else had the slightest bit of evidence we'd know about it by now.

  • very well made and informative video. Thank you

  • I cant help but be reminded by your voice of the movie Freeway -- Kiefer Sutherland hah

  • @jgizzy

I guess thats a good thing - he's Canadian too.

  • @carquestions thank you for the response^^ actually i don't have enough knowledge about car's schematic, but I'm interested. so thank you for the Info, and sorry for the troublesome question.

  • I'm just a noob passing by asking some noob question, "why does they use electronic type of mechanism? it will be better if its only a mechanical one"we know electronics have more percentage of failure than the mechanical. *sorry for my english too*

  • @remudesu There were far more failures and sticking pedals with mechanical systems than with electronic - it simply is not true that mechanical systems were more trouble free.

  • question...does a 2007 toyota corolla CE haves this types of recall please reply cause i dont want nothing to happend while i drive cus of this type of recall shit and also i have a 6 years old daughter that i take to school every day in my car .......please give me an answer.....

  • @papitosax81 It's not the car or one of its parts that is the problem - it never was. All the investigations done by the government have shown it is driver error - drivers that are over 60 for the most part and the car has to be an automatic - they all mistakenly freaked out and hit the gas, to put it simply. The same thing happened 24 years ago with Audi - same result - all driver error. You should feel very safe driving your car. Watch that you don't put the wrong floor mat in and you'll be ok

  • @carquestions ok but u still havent answer my question and i thank u for the reply....the question is does a 2007 toyota corolla ce haves any problems with all this recall going on cus i have to think of my daughter before me...i heard some type of engine problem or computer problem going on can u get to answer that quiestion i see u know about cars wayyy more than me ...lol

  • @papitosax81 there MAY be two recalls listed for your car - one is a sticker for tire loads (see your dealer for a new sticker) The other is for a computer glitch that causes the car not to start or die out. See your nearest Toyota dealer to have these things checked since not all Corollas will be affected. The fix is completely FREE and they cannot charge for it no matter how many miles you have or if your are the fourth owner or are out of warranty etc. All free at the dealer only.

  • Maybe if people live where it snows a lot, the snow from their boots could melt and get into there and mess up the magnets.

    Just a thought.

  • @mynameisdarthtater That type of damage is easy to find and leaves lots of evidence - it has never been found - all the cars that were accussed were in warm climates anyway

  • @carquestions

good to know. perhaps faulty electronics are to blame?

  • i think its funny thats its only the american CTS pedals that has the problem. the japanese ones does not have any problems so far... i work at Toyota import Denmark and we only have the problem with the CTS models not the DENSO model.. no offense but i think the problem is in quality control DENSO vs. CTS or U.S. vs. Japan

  • thats a really cheap looking pedal, something you would expect out of a toyota

  • @Mastercorvette8 cheap pedal made in the united states.. i think that says it all. if at was from Japan we would never have had any problems... Japan=quality... united states=cheap crap

  • @bamse5500dk...some USA products are shit and really good, and some Japanese products are shit and really good, depends on the company...

  • the recall is all Obama's fault , he was president while it happened therefore it's his fault

  • @haydensgirl4 Well haydensgirl, you've got one dumb way of looking at things. I guess it was all Bush's fault that 9/11 happened. So in your way of thinking, it's his fault, let's blame him.

  • i dont understand....... if the only valuable evidence of it failing is corrosion of the viable parts for its funcitionning than why have we not heard more about this in sooner or more used up models?

for your reward post : if the problem is in the ecu ( and its pedal problem caused and started by who knows what) than how is the person who wants the reward going to be leggaly allowed to present his documention knowing obd2 is G14 us goverment resticted...

be the way fuck those laws

  • @real1abcda Corrosion was a common theory in any electrical malfunction but was never found.

I don't understand the connection between OBD2 and the reward - what does one have to do with the other?- please explain.

  • @carquestions someone told me theres a law called g4 (sorry for mistaking it for g14) that makes it illegal to try to 'understand', decode and distribute the knowledge of the functionning of some newer obd2 ecu's....

so im wondering why they posted the reward when youre allowed to try too understand its fucntionning problem but not its relationship with the ecu

  • @real1abcda It wouldn't be illegal to investigate it in Canada or the US - Its proprietary code and is completely unreadable unless you wrote it so manufacturers are the only knowledgeable ones. NASA is looking into this very thing right now.

  • What I dont get or maybe this was made towards the start of the fear for Toyota now knows that it wasnt the actual gas pedal, it was within the computer software.

  • Wow just a computer cable attached to it!. Soon we would need to take our cars to computer technicians not mechanics!

  • @maltese85 I am a BMW Technician, and thats pretty much what we are. We diagnosis Electrical problems, and replace Mechanical parts/Electrical parts.

  • i want a new car, oopse my pedal stuck. people usd a couple of stories to get out of a note.

  • Maybe people are so stupid and caught up with present technology, distracted, and thought the gas pedal was the brakes.

Most of the time it is human error even when the driver doesn't even know it.

And most of the accidents happen to be Toyota drivers lol. ehh iono.

  • @apoc6400 Sorry apoc6400 - this site is for family, kids, adults etc so civil language is required.

  • Comment removed

  • @apoc6400 Hey - I understand - I'm a mechanic and did work at a steel company - but this site is for everyone - so more discretion is required - know what I'm saying?

  • Comment removed

  • I forgot to add that I saw one of the car magazines, due to all this, actually tested a bunch of the cars they had by flooring the car, then stopping the car with the brakes while at full throttle. Surprisingly, to me, every car could be stopped at full throttle that they tested, lol.

  • Great vid. Idiots have been hitting the gas instead of the brake for a long time. Many years back Jeep GC's had some problems, at least one woman ran over some people in a parking lot. Now many( all?) automatics will not let you shift from park until you press the brake pedal.

Another fave is floor mats over the gas pedal or other garbage as some people don't clean their cars.

Unfortunately, as cars get smarter, people still get dumber(idiocracy).

  • i cant believe the peaple who died would like this

  • @apoc6400 AND I BELIEVE PEOPLE KILLED BY CARELESS DRIVERS WOULD LIKE IT A LOT ESPECIALLY IF THE DRIVER WAS TRYING TO AVOID A MURDER CHARGE.

  • so if its driver error how come toyota had to pay a fine? and there's alot claims open against toyota hopefully toyota will get their $ back and hopefully those ppl who opened claims against toyota will should be named on the toyota's page as scammers lol

  • @elitecrew69 Good question - How come GM didn't get fined too? they made the Pontiac vibe at the same Nummi plant the matrix was built at and the Vibe was recalled too.

  • Today marks the official turning point - WSJ reported NHTSA has stated all their investigations have shown "driver error" - all of them

  • Media will never report this. God forbid someone is actually responsible for their own actions and life.

  • SO TO ALL OF YOU STILL SCEPTICALE , THE SISTEM HAS A DUBLE FALE SAFE TI LOOKS AT THE VOLTAGE FTOM THE PEADLES SENDING UENT AND FROM T.P.S THE AR BOTH OF SET BY 2,2V AND IF CHANGES A CODE IS THROWN TO THE C.P.U AND THE THE CAR SHUTS DOWN TO IDOL.! AND WONT DO ANNY THING TELL THE COOD IS CLEARD!

  • Just a thought, but wut if people are accelerating because they've activated the Cruise Control by accident? Can that be a possibility??

  • @MrAlexKay Sry not accelerating, but keeping a constant speed even when they let go of the gas pedal.

  • go back to cable =)

  • @REDTEAM22003 Couldn't agree more. :) Have a 98 Pontiac, good old cable has never failed me.

  • I don't see much if any problems that the magnetic system could cause. It works on the same principle as a rheostat. The coil wire on a rheostat has a tendency to wear and cause problems with the current passing through it. If the inter workings of the magnetic part that the magnets slide on both sides have malfunctioned then the magnets could cause the pedal to stick to the floor. The inter workings would have to taken apart an looked into for problems. Just a theory.

  • @capman911 Nothing touchs the magnets and they are very week to start with so there is zero chance the magnets could keep the pedal down or move it themselves.

  • couldnt you just shove it into park,i mean i would rather have to get a new tranny than die

  • @caleb790 New vehicles won't allow it - older mechanical systems won't hold past 10mph - The parking brake could be used.

  • @carquestions Now how about shifting into Idle? You can do that at any rpm and speed, sure you might blow your trans, but thats alot better than dying.

Also, would the computers Rev limiter hold more power over this fault? I'm guessing not, since its an electrical problem most likely inside the ECU (probably something as small as a tiny pin or mis manufactured electrical path on a circuit board)

  • @ShowinYaHow The consencous to date from all the investigators is there is no faulty ECM or other electronics - just driver error has been found to date - same as the Audi in 86

  • Just out of curiosity, what does the general public expect from the overarching term of "safety"? Is safety defined by the features that the car has to offer or is it how one feels when driving the car or is it something else? How do we define the word "safe" when it pertains to automobiles?

  • @fullyforum Good question - I'd define it this way " a vehicle should be considered "safe" if the vehicle can be operated easily by the average reasonably aware licensed driver without causing serious harm to the driver, passenger or other motorists." I'm a big believer in "Technology should fit people, not the other way around"

  • @carquestions That was very well defined n the logic of "technology should fit people and not the other way around" is very insightful....... this is the first vid of urs i've seen n i am subscribing lol

  • Why do we hear so much about Toyota when Honda has a more serious problem with their airbag. A defective airbag that has been linked to one death and 11 injuries in the United States over the past few years is still haunting Honda as the company today announced that it is adding 437,763 cars to its existing global safety recall over the airbag inflation problem

  • @CAREXPERT69 NHTSA the American government agency that is in charge of vehicle safety reports in document INOA-RQ09004 that there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities - so according to NHTSA it isn't a big problem if no one is being injured. The media likes to link things all the time but is always short on actual proof.

  • ive had a true uncontrolled acceleration moment my throttle cable fell off the mount and my car went wide open so that was sudden and uncontrolled but i knew what to do and i was 15 at the time.

  • Was the firewall block connections ever checked. Since the gas pedal is electronic and it' possible the computer is under the hood. The wires go through the firewall. I'm sure if these connecton have pins, if they get wet and if they are not weather tight, this can cause a problem

  • @mryome1999 They looked for this especially - this type of problem - rub through or wet is easy for an investigator to find. None was ever found in over 2000 investigations

  • it would be interesting if we get to see the parts from crashed toyotas.

  • @bananian Sure would - I've offered $2,250 for a defective gas pedal but no one has taken me up on the offer. All investigations to date have shown driver error so there wouldn't be anything to see except a pedal n good condition

  • This is very informative. Thank you for posting.

  • I know people are making a big deal about this recall, saying this is why to buy a domestic... Seriously? Are you forgeting about the bankruptcy basically all domestics went through about a year ago for listening to their customers? What about that Ford Pinto lawsuit series in the 70s (car exploded on rear end impact)? They never did a recall, bc it was cheaper to pay the lawsuits! Seen Roger and Me? GM puts a town on the streets so they could export the plant to Mexico, ya lets buy from them.

  • @surreal5335 yes people are making a GIANT deal about this recall, but they need to do some research first, GM recalls over 1.3 million vehicles for fire hazard, NOW Chrysler recalls nearly 600,000 vehicles for risk of fire, brakes failing and gas pedal sticking aswell... BUT you never hear about it. Oh and the gas pedal manufacturers for toyota also make them for domestics, domestics are just as much to blame as toyota is, so chew on that toyota haters.

  • @fergiman Good to know they learned what happens when you dont do a recall on hazardous manufacturing. Recalls dont mean they suck, it means they care about making safe cars that people can trust.

  • @Fitz207 Thanks for calling my use of the pinto lawsuit pathetic for being so old. I did some research and discovered that this poor design has never been fixed, lawsuits continue to this day. Ford admits in court they have no plans to fix the exploding gas tanks in their cop cars and pickup trucks. The last lawsuit was 2008. 14 cops have been burned alive from this so far. By the way GM also suffered the same problem, but settled for a recall and ate 495 mill in damages. Thanks fitz207!

  • MY GAS PDAL came off !!!!! good thing i was in the streets and not in freway,,and good thing it wasnt the break pedal...

  • @Joeltz What was the make model and year? Did your car just have a recall performed? Was it lose feeling before it came off?

  • @carquestions 98 explore, it wasnt lose,, I was driving more than 10min till it happen,, i tried to step on gas when light turned green,, and it just came lose..but it got fixed,,

  • @Joeltz First, you spell it "Brake" not "Break". Brakes stop you, and you stop for "Breaks". Next, don't worry about your Brake Pedal, it will never come off. The problem is with the gas pedal getting stuck on improperly placed floor mats. Toyota is still number one at building a quality car.

  • @SirCatpaw thanxs for the spell chek, yeah i think it was the floor mats..thanxs for the reply

  • There are two springs in the pedal. It uses a torsion spring on each side of where the pedal connects to the body assembly.

  • @Sysan1215 It only has two coil springs - one inside each other. There are no torsion springs in this type of CTS pedal

  • Wow really shows how pedal could fail! Metal contacts are you kidding me?

  • @kiasoul10 If your theory is correct it would leave plenty of evidence behind on the magnets - a very simple thing to check. Metal particles stuck to the magnets.

  • Your theory of any particles that maybe stuck with in the generator should be noted. It could possibly become magnetized in some freak accident, or some one taking it apart as you did. But I find it funny that the U.S patient pedal uses a generator as opposed to the DENSO pedal ( Japan made ) which uses potentiometer.

The Pedal is shimmed right under the the spring to keep tension on it.

Also DENSO pedals are used in all hybrid Camrys

  • this would of been funny if this was instructional video of "What to do if you Toyota accelerates with out control"

  • youre videos are interesting, im a Toyota owner, and i plan to stand by them. but i got a question. do you think some time you could compare the Toyota pedal assembly with the Dodge Caliber one since there are reports surffacing about CTS Corp pedals in Chrysler vehicles sticking? cuz i want to know more, and see, what some reports stated as "the bushings being found on the floor which caused the pedal to 'drop'" if not compare by video, explain that to me, the bushing part.

  • @unresolved777 At 2:04 minutes in the video above I point out the "bushing" (there is one on either side) - this is the same part they say is falling out of the Dodge pedal. If these bushings fall out the pedal will wobble losely and may stick.

  • @carquestions thats it? how the heck could it fall out then? i know this is a Toyota pedal, but wouldnt the same cover be there in the Dodge Caliber? and if that cover is there, how would that come off, and then how would the bushing pop out? strange...

  • @unresolved777 It's not a Toyota pedal - Chrysler designed it, CTS built it - I'm going by the info Chrysler supplied to NHTSA

  • obviously a user error. some people out there live for ruining lives and complaining in general - toyota is the best car manufacturer out there and my loyalty remains with them. my toyota paseo is at 310,000 miles and still purrs like a kitten - no big cost fixes, regular oil changes + gas {of course} and she's happy.

  • @brookiisvermilion Every investigation to date has shown driver error no ifs ands or buts - It's just not the type of news CNN and Fox like to report

  • Interesting.

Hard to believe this part has much, if anything to do with the problem.

Seems more likely that the issue is a SOFTWARE bug upstream from this -- in the control mechanism that responds to the accelerator vs. break usage.

  • a true shop worthy piece; who did not take shop class in H.S.?

  • all the people who say toyota is the best needs to watch this....toyota used to be good(really only the supra) other than that they sucked i also heard a person died from this and the family sued toyota

  • toyota went down with their quality i mean a plastic pedal??? that could break in peices anytime my toyota paseo (1992) as an old fashion metal pedal and no electronic wire

  • @Trainfoamer101 Yeah I guess you get a lot of people giving you abuse in mcdonalds. have a nice day

  • have a nice day to you to sir

  • @Trainfoamer101 I just noticed you're into trains. Maybe my steam train comment was just a subconscious thing cause I saw "train" in your username... but I didn't know you actually spot them. Just so you know, it wasn't supposed to be that personal.....

  • @howboutpete no problem no offence was taken :-)
