Greetings from Canada my grandfather served with the Gordon Highlanders back in the 1890's and early 1900's. Served in India and Boer war South Africa. Never got to meet the man as he died in his 40's before my grandmother and mother came to Canada.
@06innesw well isnt just one tune playing there, the first is called muckin o Geordie's Byre second one i know but the name escapes me maby someone here will know i have the tune on my PC somewhere
@06innesw yea me to but just cant remember the name of tune im usualy good with names of Scottish tunes as my brother is was in the band your looking at, plus grew up wie all those tunes,
@ajmcintosh hi thanks for that i wasnt sure at all even though i know the tune to hear like the back of my hand im not always good at some of the names,
my grandad was pipe major with the gordons and just found out was solo piper at edinburgh tattoo years ago...wish he didnt die b4 i was born as would have loved hime to have tought me
Brilliant Pipes and Drums,, and you guys dancing just show the world how Highland dancing should be done, your all Brilliant... Gilly..Black Watch, forty twa.
This is how Highland Dancing should be done. We rarely see it now as the ladies at the tattoos have taken it over with their Riverdance immitations. True regimental dancing with the men shows the strength and majesty of the Highland Fling as its shown here by the drums & pipes of the Gordon Highlanders in the last combined performance with the regimental band in Aberdeen concert hall around 1993 or so. A sad event. You can hear the quality of the band for sure. Enjoy some true Highland dance
Oh yeah there you have very pretty, I love not only the music, I like the whole country Scotland, but the music is something very special, the bagpipes and the drums are just beautiful to listen to the tunes of times long past. I would play myself like bagpipes but unfortunately, the instruments are very expensive. Next year in April or May I will travel through Scotland for a few weeks, with my van.
afterwards I'm looking forward very much to learn about the land and the people looking at me everything. in the mountains just to sit and rest and enjoy the beautiful nature with a glass of malt whiskey:)
there is also a homecoming parade and beating the retreat at huntly on the 30th july starting with the parade at about 1230hrs then beating the retreat at 1800hrs then a gordon highlander reunion in the ex service club in huntly
You know about the Gordon Highlanders International homecoming beating retreat? It's to be held in Aberdeen later July to the 2nd of August. Pipes and Drums from round the world affiliated with the Gordons will be attending. I will be there as a piper in the 5th/6th Bn. Royal Victoria Regiment from Australia. Its a big event for people who support the Gordons.
No i didnt know my Brother hasnt said anything about it but in saying that i havnt heard from him in awhile thats great what are the proper dates as i will definatly b there to see that

Did you manage to catch the Beating Retreat? It turned out quite well. Only two bands were in gordon tartan however, including us.
