I was there as well. I thought that the AKC did a good job of trying to fix the situation. Who would have expected so much rain in Long Beach? I actually liked the competition surface and so did my Cardigan Welsh Corgi. I was very glad to see them bring in more porta-potties for Sunday--we needed them! Could have used another food vendor but we got by. We went to see our posh cousins over in the Breed building for some good food choices!
While it is laudable trying to fix things after the fact, they really should instead treat Agility competitors the same as the Conformation and Obedience folks. This just shows their disrespect and poor planning for Agility Champions. See the Youtube video labeled "AKC Agility Invitational -- Wet and Soggy". Some great comments there.
This is one of the reasons why I do not run my Cardi's in AKC Agility except at the CWCCA Specialty trial.
I saw that video, and saw everything in person as Crush and I showed in both agility and breed. I honestly do not believe that any disrespect was intended to the agility competitors, rather the AKC tried to put on the biggest 125th anniversary show possible and probably took on more than they were prepared to handle. Yes, they could have planned better for the rain, but they tried to correct the problems as they occurred. I still enjoyed myself and will return if we are fortunate to qualify.
I'm sorry to see the weather caused such misery and I'm sure AKC is also disappointed in the turn of events. I'm really glad to read the spirited "making the best of a bad experience" attitude. One thing for certain, those who attended will never forget their 2009 Agility Invitational experience. It makes an interesting "remember when" story!
Our time spent at the beach in Long Beach was hanging out with sandbags. It was a true adventure getting thru Sat. Hope the confirmation folks appreciate their dry space
Ha ha, you went right past my crate!! Fun in retrospect. I was sure glad that I decided on the hard crate for my Italian Greyhound and not the NOZ to NOZ!
ROFL @ fdedip's comment about the water bowl entry!

I really believe a huge part of the disenchantment is due to the disparity -- conformation treated like royalty and agility like the poor cousins.

All of you crack me up. This video made me almost cry because of the way AKC treats agility. I am glad I was not invited.

My dog didn't have the "Waterfall View" -- he had the full "Waterfall" experience! No bath necessary -- he got a shower instead!

HaHa... That's so funny. I hope that you had fun at Long Beach even if the beach was inside a tent

I was right there too! At first, I had the "Ocean front" view, then when they put up the sand bags, I was downgraded to the "Waterfront" view.
At least I was not one of the ones that had the "Waterfall" view. . . . :)
