I just thought of something awesome! This would be a great song for Glee. Seeing as they've already done Conjunction Junction. This would be a great way of introducing the jazz band.
Watching this, makes me realize what the point of being stoned is. The point of being stoned, is so you can feel as happy as you did when you were 3 years old, watching Sesame Street.
@piliage the little one I baby sat loved to hear this one but had liked the jazzy spies one better and made up his own little boogie for it like I did at his age at the time 2-3 (he's 8 now) he's not my little boy but it was fun to watch him learn and enjoy these old episodes much better than the elmo filled ones we have today, he even made me turn elmo off and turn on youtube to find as many clips I could put on over the new pbs kids show time slot.
@ElizabithPeacemaker girl, you trippin. get over yourself and go watch the moonlanding. this is AMAZING and good INNOCENT number counting. and groovy music...which, as has been mentioned, good enough to hold up 30 years later and lemme tell you, i'd be *fine* bumpin this on my stereo. numbers and all!
Something tells me there is a Wurlitzer electric piano being played during the number 3 version of this animated skit (and for, perhaps, a few other numbers between 1-12).
GET DA FUNK OUTTA MA FACE!! How many shows for children gave us kids these great lessons with that damn strong funk as a backup? Hell more entertaining that watching that gay Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, LOL...
Isn't it odd that music on a kids show was good enough to hold up 30 years later, but music on kid's shows today is something no one would get caught dead listening to on their car stereo?
Janelle Monae said that Many Moonas had sampled this and I just had to see for myself! IT DOES!!!! Voodoo doo doo dooo voodoo dooo doo doo doo voodoo doodoo!
man, was it always this funky?....i honestly wouldn't blame someone for bumping this in their car...the pointer sisters were something serious....i just wish i could find the sheet music for it
I wish that all the number counts and shorts where on a DVD. They where my favorite part I always wanted the number to be the highest so that the animation would last longer. What was the one with the rat person?
The Pointer Sisters did such a cool job with this song! It left a lasting impression on me as a child, some 38 years later I still recall it so vividly!
REMEMBER THIS LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY. BORN IN 69.....IT WAS GROOVY THEN AND STILL IS TODAY......SHOUT OUT TO YOU FOR POSTING A FREAKIN EDIT TO THIS......YOU JUST MADE MY DECADE
I have a couple of weird stories to share. :) When I was in 4th grade, I laughed so hard at something, I blacked out (lack of O2). Then when I was in 5th grade I was spinning around on the playground during recess, trying to make myself dizzy...(remember that game)...well I slipped, fell and hit my head on the ice and blacked. My point? is that when I blacked out each time...this pinball sequence is what I remember playing in my head . No kidding! Born in 1972.
My god, it's like a drug. FAR more unearthly than I remember. Like something from The Invisibles or Doom Squad. From now on, this will be my psychic back-up. When my enemies imprison me in the Nth Dimension of Sorrow, I will have it playing in my mind as an emergency consciousness loop. That, and my ringtone.
@mollyz2000: Nope, there was no Pinball Number Count cartoon for #1, because very few episodes of Sesame Street had 1 as "number of the day" until the mid-1980s. So, except for Henson's old "baker" films, most of the older series of counting clips began with #2.
@Lemon020202, I'm 39 and i still sing this all the time, I haven't seen it in about 30 years. 11 dislikes? they either don't like cool music, something educational or they just can't count, fuck'm all. And remember " a loaf of bread, a carton of milk and a stick of butter." don't forget, lol. Jim Henson is and always will be a legend.

Oh, man, I STILL sing this. Everywhere. It just pops into my head and I regress for a moment. Good times! One two three, four five, six seven eight nine ten, eleven twelve! AH ah ah!
@josiahyareff Me too! I've been humming/singing it at work, and I get strange looks like "Why is she singing something about numbers.." Apparently a few co-workers don't like Sesame Street. I always will though.

@thanatology111274 When I was a toddler in the late 70's, and my folks were watching TV in their bedroom, they would check on Sesame Street every now and then, and if this sketch came on, they would crank the volume up real loud just to see how quickly I would drop whatever I was doing, and run as fast as I could to their room and plop down right in front of the TV set. They always joked about that when I was growing up. This was ALWAYS my absolute favorite, and still is to this day!
I always loved the way they used 20's Art Deco in animation and decoration in the 70's. School folders when I was a kid. The crazy stuff in the back of Spencer's Gifts. @ferfoxakeladdy Yea, we had Spencers in Chicago. I went to the one at North Riverside mall, back in the late 70's, and all through the 80's and 90's...
this was a journey of adventure and imagination. it inspired motivation in me and made me so happy as a child. when the pin ball falls down the hole at the beginning of each number segment i imagined my self as the ball every time.It was nice to feel that innocence once again.this and the yodeling game cliff hanger from the price is right were my 2 favorite things to watch as a child.
The best fucking thing ever. Totally seconding the person who said "I'm so glad I grew up watching this". Nothing beats the golden age of Sesame Street, man.
@strawbanana12 I agree! I wish a lot of the older Sesame Street Episodes would get aired again, for old-time sake. If there's any kids that like & watch it now, they should see it when it first started too.
@ed0uble too bad kids now a days have nothing fun like what we had. the cartoons now a days teach them to be perfect brats, ironic they have a cartoon called brats. lmao.
@trakehnen Because they hardly ever used the number 1 on the show back then. The only reason the "baker films" had a number one edition was that Henson wanted it to complete the series, since he put so much of himself in that particular series of segments. But even then, that one "Song of One" was hardly ever shown. Coincidentally, most of my generation that watched Sesame Street only saw it once on the show.
How cool to find this. An absolute classic that brings back memories. Always found this segment on the show bizarre, especially the menacing ways they said the numbers. Me thinks some green stuff played a part in its composition.
I just thought of something awesome! This would be a great song for Glee. Seeing as they've already done Conjunction Junction. This would be a great way of introducing the jazz band.

Musical instrument solos (heard 30 seconds into each skit) by number represented:
2, 4, 9, 12 = steel drum

I LOVE being an 80's baby. There's nothing better than this shit on TV now...NOTHING!!!

@strawbanana12 I agree! I wish a lot of the older Sesame Street Episodes would get aired again, for old-time sake. If there's any kids that like & watch it now, they should see it when it first started too.

How can we be sure that there never was a pinball video for the number 1?
trakehnen 1 year ago 2
@trakehnen Because they hardly ever used the number 1 on the show back then. The only reason the "baker films" had a number one edition was that Henson wanted it to complete the series, since he put so much of himself in that particular series of segments. But even then, that one "Song of One" was hardly ever shown. Coincidentally, most of my generation that watched Sesame Street only saw it once on the show.

How cool to find this. An absolute classic that brings back memories. Always found this segment on the show bizarre, especially the menacing ways they said the numbers. Me thinks some green stuff played a part in its composition.
