  • hi charlie,in your opinion, which one is a better option,an eccentric BB or eccentric ENO hub?at the moment,im rocking a "magic gear" but im trying to find a proper system for it.eccentric BB would be more flexible in fixing any rear wheels, whereas ENO hub requires a wheel build everytime you want to change to a new set of wheel, correct?

  • @abdulwarithzaki the eccentric BBs that retro fit are not super reliable. The white ind eccentric hub works very well. Once you have that wheel built up, you can fixie any bike.

    Cheers

    Charlie

  • @charliethebikemonger thank you!that helped so much!

  • Mountain biking with a fixed single speed is truly old school and insane!!!

  • he's trying not to laugh at the snail lol

  • you sound like jeremy clarkson 0.43

  • damn, the snail was swaying it for me with regards to the ecentric hub, until i realised he was a innocent bystander. great vids, to sum up as long as you don't use nasty shift specify components or sprockets that look like sonic the hedgehog and employ eyes that are non hungover to line it all up then you are as a scouser once put it 'safe as f*%k' nice one

  • Oh man, I want the snail included. :L

  • hey, is there any major difference between the surly singulator and the gusset bachelor. i have a giant stp with vertical dropouts?

  • @TheYellowSn0w

surly is sprung and kinda quiet. Bachelor has rollers and makes a little more noise

  • Cool snail.

  • all those are expensive and overly complicated. for $4 you could just get a half link. you are all welcome. or go ahead and spend an ass load of your money on something that is not needed.

  • @satanforpresident .... half links are the weakest link in a chain. Chains stretch and then you will have a slack chain, and need to remove links, add cogs etc.

It can work for a while but what we have here is a better long term solution.

  • haha, 5 stars for the snail

  • why is there a snail on your hub

  • @ssttoonneeyyyy.... it just slimed on to the set and started acting away... ("set" being an overstatement for my garden)

  • Derailleurs are GREAT. I have yet (in thousands of kms riding - I do 9 -10000kms a year - training and racing) to have a derailleur fail etc. Sure the pulleys wear, sure they need adjustment very occasionally but they're much better to ride than a single. Having said that - my main training bike is a SINGLESPEED - freewheel.

I train on it because its different and because it helps me develop faster spin and leg strenght up hills.

  • If you are really hardcore and have to convert a bike, you cut off the original dropouts and hanger, and weld on a rear facing slot bracket. Only need .5'' of movement to nail the tension without having to washer your brake mount

  • I think you are cool, but tensioners are retarded!

  • I agree but how else are you meant to tension a chain ? They are ugly but what else does the job for such a small outlay ?

  • Cheers Danthesoundman... not bad for a first cut. You are so right. Mechs are not good. Maybe one day someone will make a hub gear that works and does not cost the earth... but until then me and Danthesoundman are going to be rock 'ard and get up the hills using our manly grunty skills.

  • Really good videos. Informative. Good fake accent, just kidding. Single speeds rock, but I hate Chain tensioners. This is the way to go, if you don't want an unsightly "mech - looking" thing in your side profile view of the chain loop.
