  • Use stock instead of water.....add 2 large shaved paper thin potatoes into the mix, you won't get any really noticeable flavor, but when you get your hand whip grinder into the soup (don't grind the meat of course) but the added vegetable gives the soup body. It's really good. Nice and smooth ('cept for the meat chunks)

  • @chivone21 thanks for the suggestions, potatoes are great for adding body to soups, and the stock rounds out the flavor. thanks for watching, eric - GardenFork

  • So do you soak your split peas over night?

  • @CupcakeSaraKai i don't but I know people who do. all the cookbooks say you don't have to, but i think if you soak them, they will cook quicker. especially if you the dried peas you are using are older. thx, eric.

  • @CupcakeSaraKai I've never soaked my beans or peas for soups. I just hand sort looking for little rocks and then rinse well and toss in the crock pot for soup =)

  • I cook with my crock pot all the time I use it like an oven if I cant place it in a crock pot I wont make it and I wont buy it if I cant get it into my crock pot KEEP ON COOKING

  • I keep those little canned hams on hand for stuff like this . I have a habit of wanting navy beans at off times so I always have what I need for them

  • @SasyBecause great idea, thanks for that. eric

  • @SasyBecause Thank you for sharing that idea! I didn't even think of doing that. I usually keep ham in the freezer when I can so if I see those little hams on sale I'll be sure to grab a couple for soups ^^

  • @SasyBecause You mean, like the spam type meats? I know they make turkey flavored, and pork flavored canned meats. Is that what you mean? Probably a good way to eat that kind of meat. Let me know

  • I love your videos. Your dogs are so adorable and i love that you include them in all your videos. Oh yeah I also love all the helpful tips and stuff too XD

  • Another great video Eric ! Definately I would add onions, cracked pepper, bay leaves, thyme. Great cold weather comfort food. It's 11 degrees here in KS this morning brrrrrrrr
