  • Shawn, once again, I think you are exactly right. One of the reasons why I believe your instruction is so "right" is you, as well as I, believe in this...why fight the human body and mind...it's going to do what I needs to do. We need to realize that, accept it, and get out of it's way. That's what I love about your teaching. I'm new to your methods, and have ordered the DVD set. Keep up the GREAT work!

  • most head movement is after contact

  • Great vid Shawn,so many big name instructors are obsessed with right knee holding its position, which is complete BS,Ian Poulter lets it move like your's and a TV analyst said it was a swing flaw,a lot of these famous coaches think they know it all,it's quite comical. You're explanation is spot on,it frees the body up so nicely, and provides great tempo, your pivot looks identical to Hogans, nice work.

  • hi shawn great vids. u bring up alot more substantial concepts than any other intructor ive seen..good stuff. but im still a little confused because w most of the pros, the head drops from the start of the downswing, while your video here focuses more on the backswing...there is something that is down w the lowerbody that makesthe headdrop and i cant figure it out? what do you think

  • I have 2 more videos for you: "golf pro lesson get more club speed and power as well as "golf pro lesson one leg and feet together update"; you will see what I mean; Shawn

  • Hi Shawn

Your videos are amazing stuff. Still have a lot of work to do. I am 55 and after having written to you and getting your response, I have started enjoying the game as well as wanting to learn more.

  • This is what gets my butt out of bed every morning!! :)

    Thanks for the great comment!

    Shawn

  • "So what!...where's the problem" - love it Shawn. Your mantra "plant, fall, plant fall" totally clicked for me when I played today.

Do you notice that Sam Snead does this "plant fall, plant fall" and just barrels through the ball?? Like a freak'n freight train!! His first plant during his forward press is like a "toss." Just like Shawn says. I see Snead's swing in a totally different light, I can see where he generates power, not from brute force, but from the "plant, toss, fall."

  • Beautiful!!

    Thanks for the great comment!

    Shawn

  • Your swing is a very old style swing almost like jack nicklaus. (where he plants his left foot into the ground on his downswing) most young golfers including myself, we have alot of flexibility. I rotate my upper body in my takeaway leaving my lower body as it was at address. (Having a coil effect.) The way you teach it like at 1:54 with a modern swing you do not need to extend your right leg.

    luke

  • Why swing in a way today that you will not be able to execute tomorrow?? You will have to start all over again in 20 years; this swing is for life!! Just ask Tom Watson who keeps showing the young guys how to do it from Tee to Green! If you see my "golf pro lesson learn your golf machine" you will see that your body was not meant to swing the way you are doing it right now...I was once where you are now and wish I had this info at your age! :) Shawn

  • hi shawn. i recently discovered your videos out here. i really like the way you describe key swing concepts. i don't think head "bobbing" is an issue if you keep your right foot planted thru impact (ala Kenny Perry).

i'm 6'3". if my head raises in my backswing, i need to compensate by dropping my head in the downswing..an extra movement. i don't see cink, vijay, stenson, els, or other tall players with upward head movement in their backswing. welcome your thoughts & comments. great stuff!

  • Better! Moe Norman had the exact movement I describe here and a great continuation to this video is the "Golf Pro lesson get more power" I just uploaded! Enjoy!

    Shawn

  • Hi Shawn....this might be your best video ever. The analogy of staying in the half-pipe and bouncing back and forth (in my practice so far) has given me a feeling of fluidity that I have NEVER felt before. All the other stuff about "butt backwards" falling back towards target, the Hogan

power, the arms falling drill.....all of these which I have tried to repeat and MANUFACTURE now seem to just flow and occur. I cannot wait to try this on course. Note....this vid is not on the usual list.

  • Thanks very much; I will add it to the list!

    Shawn

  • Shawn, first, I cant thank you enough. When I am doing the little bounce, I find this to be a great timing mechinism, I could almost set a metronome to it if I wanted to. Also I notice that when I want to swing harder, I bounce a little harder.

Are these the correct feelings? Seems to work but I want to make sure I'm on the right track.

Still have some work to do, only been at it for a week and fall into old habits, but all in all I am very, very happy to say the least.

    Dave.

  • Hey Dave! Yes! Exactly! This is also a tremendous power source that you will be able to feel amazingly well in the feet together drill video; Keep up the great feedback! Shawn

  • Both my late father (he passed away two months ago) and I had few things in common but one was the biomechanical breakdown of the swing. We loved analyzing our swings via slow motion video and spent countless hours talking about it. Once we discovered your videos (and purchased cd's I might add) it all began making sense. He didn't live long enough to ingrain your swing method but II'm carrying on the tradition and look forward to teaching my two children your philosophies. Beautiful stuff!!

  • Hey kartwright! I am so very sorry for your loss! It must be difficult...I am very happy to be able to share this with you, your dad and your kids; it is truly an honor and I thank you for reaching out and sharing this with me and the rest of our you tubers...very touching and a big source of motivation for me; Shawn

  • Shawn, enjoy your videos. I don't know if you are a Monty Python fan, but at 2:55 you could have passed for John Cleese in the "Ministry of Silly Walks" sketch.

  • I thought I saw that somewhere...thanks for the reminder!

    Shawn

  • It is a natural response of the body to maintain balance. Without the head "bobbing" it would be very difficult to maintain balance throughout the swing.

  • Moe Norman raised his head 2 inches in takeaway and lowered 4 inches in follow through. Don't worry about ppl commenting your headmovment Shawn, it's fine!

  • Shawn, Thanks for all the wonderful lessons, both you tube and your DVD. I 've played my 42 game the othe day and I'm really enjoying the game. Enjoying it so much I have purchased 5 sets of clubs. I have really been thinking I want to buy a set of Rapture Pings now. Crazy? Probably! but I just think I want them.

I have mizuno mp60 (love them), Nike (playing them now), ping s59, kgz (1st set), and big bertha(new never hit) My question, do you think I will notice a difference playing them?

  • You are welcome and thanks for writing in!

They will feel different; question is, will they perform better? In my opinion no but you never really know until you try them right? I would go to the next demo day and feel them for yourself and compare to the clubs you have; for pitch shots and distance control, it is hard to beat the forged though! Shawn

  • I just want tell you i am trying very hard to learn your methods. This past monday i had 165 yd par 3 and right before i hit i thought of you saying to keep my armpits connected and finishing my backswing.Well i made a hole in 1 thanks. I am still having to understand the braced left side but im working on it.

  • Shawn, thanks for all you do! I hope you put together another dvd or two for purchase.

  • In the works! :)

    Shawn

  • What is your main swng thought during your swing, Because i think about to much, and my pga pro says you should thinkabout the target or one main key.

  • You are not alone, I have the same exact problem! I need one and only one swing thought when I begin my swing. Suggestions would be appreciated.

  • See the Hoyster's answer! :)

    Shawn

  • Effortless-Powerful-uninterrupted-Heavy Momentum to a target!

One of my favorites is "Golf Pro Lesson Tilted Spiral part 2"

    Shawn

  • Hey Shawn, for the last few rounds some of my drives have been impaling into the tee box and leaving divots in it, would this be a case of coming in too steep?

  • See "Golf Pro Lesson Modern driver" part 1 and 2 and in part 2 towards the end there is a good drill on the slopes; Shawn

  • Hey Shawn,

watched my clement dvd's "again" toes slightly open i overlooked it but gosh , it helps me lock into postion so much easier.

    Love the slow mo!

  • Excellent points. Thanks for the super posting.

  • hey shawn, heard you mention in your videos on bracing on the left and the titled spine angle. Could you clarify on the part where we are suppose to keep our head behind the ball. maybe you could do a video on that. Think alot of people advocate that but i can't seem to comprehend the idea. As we would surely move abit laterally to the left, so it would kind of hard to keep the head behind the ball?

  • do this slowly at first, set up with head behind ball, go to top of back swing, with back facing target, maintain wrist cock as it is, and pull the grip of the club down and toward the ball, moving hands and arms only, with both hands remaining cocked. this is exagerated feeling of club dropping into slot, combine with hip drive(aka bump) and turn and your answer is in there somewhere. enjoy the search. these things help keep head behind ball, cheers

  • The video I have on this is "golf Pro Lesson how to clear the hips"! Thank you for posting!

    Shawn

  • Boy do I have a lot of videos on this dude! Where have you been?! "Golf Pro lesson Braced Tilt Part 2" "Golf Pro Lesson Tilted Spiral" "Golf Pro Lesson proper spine tilt angle" golf pro lesson downswing weightshift" for starters! Enjoy!

DVD is chock full of this all so important topic! Shawn

  • Hey shawn, will you please have a look at my swing and give me some advice? I would really appreciate it.

  • the half pipe is a good image.

  • Thank you for the video Shawn!

InThe last couple of days i'm really starting to let myself plant on my forward leg/ on my follow through and it feels wonderful. I'm going to do a video/phone swing analysis in the next week with you.

i'll do my best and would be honored for more advice!

  • Thanks for putting another one up, Shawn. Really makes me want to get out on the greens now that it's warm enough.

  • another great video shawn , think you love the game and want for all of us to enjoy and play better really has help me alot

thanks and be sure there is lots of people that appreciate your lessons

  • Thanks a lot guys! Shawn

  • awesome 5 stars. slomo!

  • Great vid Shawn, I'll be going to the range with this in mind.

  • "règlements de comptes à OK Corral" we would say in french. You look kind of annoyed by some comments. Feel free to ignore them if you are confident with you teaching. The answer you made to a comment just above is important : we can hit fat if we aren't braced against the left side before the DS.

Still perfect videos, thank you Shawn

  • you look like a priest with the black top and white thing under your chin.

  • another brilliant video Shawn! thanks for all your tips!

  • I bob down and hit down on the ball and always hit fat.

  • It is because you are not braced against the left side BEFORE your arms swing down; see my "Golf Pro Lesson Downswing weightshift" and "Golf Pro Lesson 2008 golf swing review" part 1 and 2; see also the first subject on my "You Tube Analogies" page on my website;

    Thanks for the comment!

    Shawn

  • Hey Shawn, I was wondering if you could do a video on if its ok not to make a divot, or if it is a must to have a divot. My iron shots are great right now, (You are a big reason for it) but i dont make those long pretty looking divots as some do. Please explain if you can. Thx again Shawn ^^ -Joe

  • Hey Joe;

There are trappers and sweepers of the ball and either one is fine as long as you strike through the ball solidly; some trap too much and some sweep to the point where the contact is too thin; there is some room to play and you obviously are inside those parameters...You are a great candidate for solid play when it is raining and the ground is wet! You can be my partner for sure on those days! :)

    Thanks for the question! Shawn

  • thx alot for your quick and great response, because of your positive outlooks, now I can be more confident in my swing, and block out those others who say I have to do this and that when I'm striking the BALL WELL!!!!! -JOE

  • Another great video. Best instruction ever.

If you could play in foursome with any 3 golfers, past and present, who would they be and why?

    mike in memphis

  • Past 4: Ben Hogan-Moe Norman-Bobby Jones-Jack Nicklaus and just watch them compete together!!

Present 3: My Family excluded, In the heat of the battle for the maximum learning experience, Tiger Woods, Megan McChrystal, Phil Mickelson.

    I will explain later...

  • hi shawn, thanks for the tip just had a lesson recently with a new pro and i was wondering how to a bad or enexperienced pro because i am not sure about the pro
