Now that I look at this after many years I realize this is a replica of the two Cherubims at top of the Arc of the Covenant.

@TheRealVerbz Actually the Cherubim atop the Arc of the Covenant have their wings out stretched forwards touching. But the resemblance is there. I recently spent a weekend with Noah Hathaway (Atreyu) and he told me that the set for this scene was built almost completely. The Sphinxes were completely real from the bust down and stood about 30-50 feet high. The rest was mate paintings and blue screen. He said it was spectacular standing below them.

In all the modern depictions, we see the wings touching but that's not how it originally was. In order for electricity to literally arc from wing to wing, there needs to be a spark gap.

John Hutchison proved the arc was an electro-static capacitor by building a scale model but using wood and copper rather than solid gold, obviously.

A lot of information is lost over time.

Just like the Ankh. It's 2 pieces with a coil in the center but now it's just shown as one piece.
