@wdresiefajniejest You should reach Cape Verde Is. and from there to Recife, BR is about 18 days (2 person w/ 33 ft ) using the prevailing winds and courents! Have fun! (If you decide to came more south we welcome sailors @ Uruguay for some food and probably more than watter .-))
Which Westerly is that? I just bought a Westerly Medway 36, my first boat. They're wonderful boats. Are you a member of the Westerly Owners Association?
He! It's a Westerly 33, with a twin keel. I think my father (owner of the boat) is indeed a member of the Westerley owners Association but I'm not 100% sure. Where do you sail?
Cool boat! I've seen photos of those twin keel boats sitting on the ground at low tide -- quite a sight. I just got into sailing. I took the Offshore Sailing School's fast track to cruising course in the British Virgin Islands, and currently sail in the Puget Sound area in the Pacific Northwest. After a year or two of local cruising, I plan to venture further offshore.
Its a westerly 33 (not the discus, that has the same hull, but an aft cockpit)
We have the fin keel version, but this video is a tribute to the marque, especially on 54 seconds - excellent footage! I'll put some videos up soon crysnjord. My elders are in the owners association (W33 110), and I posted a link onto the Woa forum.
Mmm.... I don't think it's easy to do this with a motorship, let alone safe. If your motor fails for some reason, you're in big trouble. Another problem is the amount of fuel. How will you take fuel for 3 weeks (an estimate for the SHORTEST crossing you can make, from Tenerife to the north of South-America)?
About the route: Bring the boat to Portugal in the summer, leave there in january to make the crossing between january and february.
@ toddthemofo, it was just me and my father. Enough to handle our 33 feet Westerley.
@ bigfootGeorgia
we crossed in february. The parts with heavier winds you see in the vid. are actually in the Gulf of Biscay, which we crossed at the beginning of our trip in december. Your crossed to ocean as well I think?
nice video ,horrible music ugh I had to hit mute so hard I broke my mouse.

Wow, that is a beautiful area. Better than Holland ;-)
In a year or three I'm planning a big trip to your side of the ocean, to South-America (Brazil, Patagonia)
