  • I wasn't aware Reading made step-top six chimes. Or could it just be a similar sounding custom made whistle?

  • @JoMiFu I said below that it was similar sounding. I have heard Reading passenger whistles a lot over my lifetime being local to the area and with all the T-1's about on the Rambles and 2102, etc. To my ear the whistle on #73 sounds virtually identical. But I am not a whistle expert, so I will leave the origin of the 73 whistle to others more knowledgable.

  • Too bad the White Pass can't get #71 from Dollywood

  • @TNtrainboy15 I imagine they could if they offered enough money. I question the need though, with two engines in steam already. If they had no steam original to the WPY already on the property, it might be a different story. I am just thankful that their core business generates enough cash that they can afford to operate steam at all.

  • IS that an RGD 6 chime?

  • @WSOR10C If you are asking about the steam whistle, I believe it is the original applied by Baldwin when the engine was built. It does sound a bit like a Reading passenger whistle. The air horns on the diesels are Nathan M-3 and M-5's.

  • @fmnut that is a Reading 6, baldwin whistles were almost always hooters of some sort.

  • Absolutely awesome railroad and steam locomotive! Spectacular footage.

  • Nice whistle on the engine! Great video man.
