  • Regardless of your personal political alignment, everyone has to admit that this has to be one of the best election campaigns ever. Except for Blair's mega cheesy fake grin at the end.

  • Problem with left-wing politics is eventually you run out of everyone else's money.

  • Well New Labour was certainly the best for any Labour Government! At least they did not try to control people lives so much that nothing actually improves like what Mr Brown tried to do. Anyway, the good thing is that now we have the Conservative Government in power (with the only pitfall being the Coalition), things can ONLY get better!

  • thank you for 2 illegal wars. 9 million immigrants, turning out country into a welfare state, borrowing billions to give to aid and our EU dictators, selling our gold reserves at rock bottom prices, stealing all of our pensions, stealing million of tax payers money for your own greedy liberal MPs etc...

  • Also, interesting to note the change in tone of adverts now and then. This is jubilant and hopeful of a brighter future, all three parties campaign adverts in the recent election were much less hopeful and more bleak

  • THANKS FOR £23,000 POUNDS WORTH OF DEBT PER PERSON!!

  • Why on Earth is Blair voting in someone else's constituency - and why he does hide his paper?

  • @kisbie Because he voted for the Tory candidate.

  • @jprbritishcritic Are you still here?

  • This looks like a very sad yet funny joke now. Also note that it is *cough* the Sun *cough* that is the paper of choice....

  • eww... was so hoping there was a twist and it wasnt Blair... but I guess back in 97 this seemed like a cute idea.

  • Liberals are liars.

  • @jprbritishcritic still here?

  • Am I the only one who loves that despite all the red (Labour) undertones, Blaire wares a blue (Conservative) shirt, and shakes hands with a guy in a yellow (Lib Dem) shirt? :p

  • check out my video of the Labour25 convicted paedophiles. no wonder they have a child doing the intro speech on this video. sex education for 6 yr olds ?? whats going on here??

  • @nationalistactivist Actually, it's a woman, not a child, but ok.

  • Labour are scum of the earth. Shame though the LibLabCon are no better.

  • @jprbritishcritic

In the broad sweep of history New Labour will go down as the most profligate and deceitful government since the establishment of British parliament. And unfortunately there will always be fools such as yourself who will buy into the spin. And Labour began to manipulate crime statistics as soon as they took office by altering the way the police record crime, along with unemployment statistics(putting it under other columns to give the impression that unemployment was lower)

  • how wrong they were, conservatives the only way forward tbh

  • @bigmangiff

yeah cos we're moving forward right now aren't we. Oh wait no, your cuts have put the uk economy back down when Labour had it going again and you're busy destroying the equal society Labour built by cutting all the social welfare programmes that allowed people to actually go from rich to poor.

  • This captures the mood of my victory in 2007, and this song inspired me, before my landslide where I won 59% of the vote

  • we need a real left wing mp to lead labour

  • BAD HANGOVER AFTER THAT!

  • Comment removed

  • greatest leader since churchill!! nuff said!!

  • i like tony bilar is best leader

  • @jprbritishcritic Tottally agree with you. Sadly they're in.

  • @logamac and causing a right upset as well, I mean these student protests are not happening for no reason, and also the unjust cuts to the Councils around the country, ie Tower Hamlets having to cut more off of it's budget than Dorset, just wait until March, things will cook up then

  • Comment removed

  • @19189073 Things can only get worse.

  • Is that Robert Webb at 1:05? LOL

  • slightly cheesy PPB, but still makes me wish i was of voting age/politicized in '97, must've been a great feeling. DON'T LET THE TORIES IN

  • This was the greatest PPB until the Lib Dem Fairness PPB being aired at present.

2010 is the year of the yellow dove.

  • The Labour Party disgusts me. What they have done this country is foul.

    Vote BNP!

  • Vote Labour for a future fair for all!

  • Are you mad? How can you say that when the gap between rich and poor is steadily increasing?

  • we will crush the labour party into dust

in 2010 they will lose the general election and in 2015 the NEW Party will sweep to power

we will reverse every last left wing policy forced on us by the scum of the left

  • If the "We" in your statement is "TheBritish" you claim to be composed of, what say you to the millions of people who will (admittedly foolhardily) vote for them.

    Having said that, CLEGG 2010!

  • labour died when Blair came to power and Brown is the last nail in its coffin

  • It's such a shame the tories are likely to win the next election...Labour have done so much good for this country! The left is best...we care haha...David Cameron...anyone noticed how he flip flops all the time!!!!

  • David Cameron a flip flop hahahaha

you must be talking about Brown and his government, also you said" labour have done so much good for this country" were you joking because lets look at the facts we all have debt because of Labours over borrowing and did you hear about the plans to cut the defence budget when are British troops are getting killed every day in Afghanistan, yeah good old Labour and its same old ways ruining everything in its path. VOTE CONSERVATIVE

  • We spend more on defence now than in 1997 and the Tories cut the defence budget massively; in real-terms infact during the 1990s.

  • Have you seen our brilliant new hospitals and schools? Our new industry and crime at its lowest ever recorded level. The debt is beginning to shrink due to the dilligence of our government and unemployment is still lower than in 1997 when we came to power. As we emerge from recession we must remember the dark tory days... Vote Labour and help Britain!

  • I dont understand all these arguments over the two manistream parties, saying ones better etc etc. Both parties respectivly are miserable failures, and im sure many people even regret voting atall in 97!

  • Either way whoever you wins they'll still do whatever it takes to get at those few coppers left in our pockets, scrounge all the money they can and then cover it up with a load of nonsense.

  • The Worst Day In British History :(

  • What a complete joke Labour are.

Things can only get better; an illegal war, Dr Kelly dead, spin spin spin, the country up to it's eyeballs in debt and now Labour seem to be instigating a scorched earth policy.

All that 1997 optimism was wasted.

  • Things can only get better. Ha

More like things can only get worse.

This country was better of with John Major

  • Hope fully the British people will learn from this tragedy in our history.

New Labour is just a New Lie.

  • The UK is a far better place today than 1997 and the Tory years. If that is a disaster, you just wait and see what the Tories will do to destroy society with a 2 tier upper/lower class system!

  • Where is Catholic god-man these days?

Is he still buying loads and loads of houses? Picking up £1m peace-prices?

What an shameless piece of political propaganda.

Anyway.. the education education education you were promised will soon be delivered.

An education where house prices don't just keep magically trebling in value every 10 years... where debt isn't really wealth.

Standby for you education. It is going to be brutal.

  • I don't understand! THINGS DIDN'T GET BETTER!

  • People are going to get a very big shock over the next few years if the Conservatives get into power, you can kiss all your benefits goodbye and expect healthcare to go don the drain....In some respects Im hoping for a Tory win just so that it gives so many complacent British people a big kick up the arse so that they are NOT re-elected next time

  • things can only better! by voting!

    BNP 4th June!

  • LABOUR

    LIBERALS

    CONSERVATIVES

MP's from all these Parties are corrupt and nothing but a bunch of thieves.

For maximum impact on JUNE 4th VOTE BNP!

THE BNP VOTE will have the effect that no other protest Vote can achieve!

Don't Believe the LIES the MEDIA spread about the BNP

the BNP are prepared to tackle the difficult issues that no other party is willing to take!

    PUNISH THESE THIEVING PIGS

  • There's some truth in a lot of that. But I can pretty much we Tories will be cutting on just about everything after the next election. But then so would Labour and the Lib Dems we have to we're so indebted. In 1979 the country was bankrupt thanks to the Labour party in 2009 it's bankrupt again.

  • +++

  • BNP! Stop the rhetoric

  • Roll on next June. Happy days ahead people. :)

  • Iainscotia - HERE , HERE

  • Well it's a good job Liebore are in for a hiding then. If Labour are re-elected, I (and I imagine many other Brits) will be leaving this sinking ship of a country.

  • Yet you won't be leaving when more of the same gets in? Not the brigtest really, are you?

  • Happy bygone days indeed! I remember staying up all night watching Labour win in 19997... Portillo losing his seat! What optimism there was then..

But now Labour have abandoned the working man, are intent on destroying all our freedoms with the ID card (and charging us £100) for the privilege) and want to keep records of our movements in and out of the country..

New Labour Philosophy: People are not to be governed, they are a problemto be dealt with.

  • Strange isn't it? In 97 when we we're booted from office the negative campaigns "New Labour, New danger" failed miserably and we couldn't respond to this because we were tired and devoid of ideas. Now Labour is falling in to the same trap we did e.g. Dave the Chameleon,Tory Toffs, Snobby Dave etc etc. If there going to pull back they need to be as fresh and positive as we are and they were then; probably not going to happen. Was there at Crewe frankly the Labour party gifted us that seat.

  • lol

  • Ah - a Labour majority of 179 as it turned out - excellent days and bigger than anything Madam Thatcher managed!

  • Who´s feelin 85%????

  • Why are labour clamping down on BNP members? i thought britian meant freedom of speech, Labour party are getting worried that BNP are getting big that is why.

  • Things can only get better for conservatives, not only have labour released the worst political advert in history, but Gordon Brown is in power *party*

  • it was 17 years of conservative neglect and damage that made things too difficult for labour and forced us into this recession. labour set it's goals too high because in may areas they have made things better, i am willing to give them a second term.

  • Second term? :S They are in their third.

  • "Labour are the working mans Party" sounds kind of hollow .Their insane "tax and spend" policies has all but destoyed the UK Economy and is costing jobs. I suspect the ongoing situation will be worse than that the Tories had the 1980s. That will look like a picnic. How many Euros is the £ worth now, soon to be how many £s to the Euro?. Aye Labours done well,at screwing up the UK. Labour managed to do what Hitler tried. they have destroyed the UK. Vote Labour? I'll shoot myself first.
  • You have got to be kidding

  • To me, labour party is simply for useless council scum, who take away hard working peoples money, and give it to wasters to go to the pub.

Just destroy get rid of the entire party, and, ship all of the chavs abroad.

If only Conservative, and Lib dem were around, our nation wouldn't have gotten into this financial trouble in the first place.

People complain about Thatcher, tough, she was the only prime minister ever who actually moved the nation forwards. As well as not giving the lazy money.

  • they did introduce the new deal to get people working and reduce youth crime and gave employment opportunities through the youth justice system.

  • Things can only get better. The irony.

  • bacaca88- 'no hope for the UK' What purpose does that sort of cynicism serve? There is allways hope for this great nation even when times are tough.

  • You people don't understand.

These major parties don't stand for any of us. Whether British or English or any other nationality.

  • new labour?...new joke...

  • better?...really???...wake up.....this makes me giggle its so funny, new lab.....new joke

  • This advert has made me want to actaully throw up. It should be things should only get worse as they have done!

  • "Things can only get better".

I'm sorry but things have got a hell of a lot worse.

  • Look how happy everyone was before the Labour Circus got into power lmao.

  • Labour sucks they have destroyed britain allowing all the immigrants in. If you want to practice is islam and pray 5 times a day to mecca then vote for the the tories or labour. I hope more bitish take a good hard look at the BNP they are truely the only one that has Britains best interest at heart.

  • Shawners198- the BNP is a joke.

  • Lol...and what are the BNP? Politicians, who won't do anything for us once elected. Labour are the best of a bad bunch.

  • halogen123- 'wont do anything for us'- that sounds very cynical, are you an anarchist?- and if not, why don't you stand.... im not trying to be rude.. just interested.

  • If you vote fot labour you are idiot's.

  • lmao

  • More cheese with that hahaha ='[

  • BIG mistake for Blair to support Bush; Brown not fit for PM; Cameron as useless tosser. No hope for the UK.

    God help you all there.

  • "labuor [sic] have runied [sic] the country" - Oh really? 10 more years of Tory rule wouldn't have?

  • Im no Labour supporter but its hard not to feel the optimism from this

  • I like the prominent placement of The Sun at the beginning. Talk about targeting a particular demographic...

  • labuor have runied the country, people wanted a change from great consevertives and they got an bad change, labour also cheated to stay in power (votes)

  • Things can only get better???

The Labour socialist party has become a National Socialist party!

With all the trappings eg. Targeting a minority religion 'islam', Creating secret police spying on people for major terrorist crimes like dog fouling & sending your kids to the wrong school

  • the song says things can only gwet better but to be onist what has ha nothing that's what we are worse than before laour came into power

  • rubbish

  • Things could only get worse

  • labour party spin and lies are fast becoming too transparent.they have betrayed not only middle england but the working class as well.

education, education education should read immigration immigration immigration.smoke and mirror politics and an english hatinng self loathing bunch of jumped up never come down greeneyed oiks.better the devil you know, where are the unions, wheres our referendum, gold reserves and pensions you losers

  • Has anyone else noticed how this video is factually erroneousness? Tony Blair has cast his vote in Sedgefield in all of the elections he has stood in, so was obviously never eligible to vote elsewhere. Therefore it is a mystery as to why he is attending a polling station located in what appears to be somewhere in or close to one of the North London boroughs. Confounding indeed!

Great election though. Let's hope Brown wins in 2010.

  • vote cameron i want to see you greedy people who fueled this false housing boom get the results of your greed

  • its strange how the past seems so lovely in retrospect. o how duped and desperate we all were.

  • Speak for yourself... I saw how it was crass political manipulation and the sheeple licking it all up at the time.

Don't need no retrospect... now go and wait a few more months for dire economic picture to emerge and pray the Conservatives can manage the mess they've been left to fix.

  • Speak for yourself. I didn't vote labour and fall for their cringing political manipulation.

Now run along you sheeple and pray the Conservatives can fix all the debt Labour have run up in power.

  • Do you sheeple really think Blair's first choice of newspaper to read in the morning was The Sun?

Sheeple - the lot of you. Brainwashed sheeple.

  • do it? we cant because labour keep giving out"you cant do that" new laws

  • Oh-my-God... how cringeing was that?!

  • Well - i thought Tony was great (except for Iraq). We never had a better Prime Minister before (crtainly not Thatcher) and not one since - come back Tony - all is forgiven.

  • I wholeheartedly agree about Tony Blair, but I won't apologise for being a fan of Gordon Brown.

  • thedoctor1812- even though im not a Labour supporter; I met Gordon and I quite like Gordon. He came in too late and is having to handle the Blair hangover. People tend to pick on the PM when things are bad- I actually think some Brown iniatives are quite good- and not 'gimmicks' whatever a gimmick is- the Peoples Panel for instance and distancing from the US.

  • wtf!, this ad is crap, seriously!

  • Not many people would shake his hand now. He was bloody awful, Iraq and dodgy donations is his legacy.

  • It shows how far ahead Labour were in the polls, they didn't even need to put out an ad to persuade people to vote Labour (or not vote Tory). They just put out a politically neutral ad encouraging people to vote.

  • very true. In fact, minus blairs (eventual) appearance this could quite easily be just that: an advertisement to pick up the voting population. I wonder if they will feel as confident in the next election...

  • It's called the "soft-sell".

Works well with a brainwashed sheeple - especially the voters who would usually vote Tory but the press had softened up with a subliminal newspaper story campaign that to brainwash the message there is no real difference between Labour and Conservatives.

And this advert is nothing the Labour party would have ever come up with themselves - probably paid some top-end marketing group a stack of money to come up with it.

  • No it's all to do with the fear that people would be panicked into voting Tory at the last minute. The memory of '92 was still clear in the minds of the Labour party. They knew that Major's only hope was that soft Labour supporters might not actually go through with what they had been threatening in the polls.

  • Sigh... It was wonderful that the Tories were kicked out so spectacularly, I just wish that Blair stuck to his promises and delivered. He could have done anything, he had that WHACKING great majority. He was too half-hearted on the issues that mattered while pursuing matters that were complete folly... Iraq and the NHS pseudo-privatisation springs to mind.

  • Sad

  • lol Labour advertising the Sun in return for the Sun's support

  • Love or hate Tony, he will not be forgotten.

  • The man in yellow LMAO

  • hahaha the guy in the yellow shirt and boyband curtains is a teacher at my school. lol this is hilarious

  • This was ten years ago!

Things have moved on a lot since then!

For one thing, in Scotland, Labour have lost the election and we have an SNP government!

  • Things can only get better?

    Rise in Crime

    NHS in Crisis

    Education standards in decline

    Spin and Sleaze

    Social Breakdown

Immense red tape on business and public services

    High Taxes

    Damaged Civil Liberties

i dont think things got better

  • But you don't get older people dying in their own homes because they cannot afford heat, you don't get mass unemployment, you don't get communities abandoned and left to get on with it when industry collapses...

  • Having 1 in every 3 children living in Poverty isn't a very good record.

  • Some people will always be in poverty no matter what they are given. Why is everything down to the government? Is nothing down to us? Do we not do our bit?

  • Who is 'we'? That sounds terribly Thatchery.

  • How is poverty defined?

  • Hah ironically, YOU DO!

  • ELMARKO There's nothing worse than an ill informed person who pumps out Cliches.

I remember the Tories, from the age of 4 to 22 i lived under Tory gov and from 22 - 32 under Lab. I know who is right!

  • Rise in crime? Our population has also increased, and police detection mehtods have got better (CCTV) so more crime is bound to be detected.

If the NHS is in crisis, then it's because of the internal market reforms by Thatcher. Labour had increased the NHS budget year on year.

The rest of your points are very debatable at best. Lastly, you say "NHS in crisis", and "High taxes" are both bad things, but how can you fix the NHS without high taxes?

  • Eaglepies, a lot of the NHS problems are down to abuse by service users. I feel that you could provide the health services with a blank cheque and still have demand higher than supply.

  • This is such a classic video ,makes me laugh how cheesy the 90s were! What a great decade though! Thatcher goes, Apartheid ended, Oasis, Labour victory! All us Labour supporters have to get out and fight for every vote possible regardless whether it is a safe seat or a marginal!

  • True Falkirk.

Bloody awful if Cameron got in, gotta really fight for the Marginals, like Gloucester.

    Keep Cameron out!

  • Seconded dude.

    No to Cameron!

  • Third.

  • GREAT!

  • Cameroon is all spin and shallow. His windmill on the top of is house is just for show. Labour for a fourth term!!!

  • See that Cameroon boi, he will have to ride off on his rusty bicycle and go hug some 'oodies.

What a joke, I see now that his own party hate him. LOL have you heard some of the songs hes using? one of them is Danny Minogue "this is it" lol... its 16 years old for crying out loud. Sad thing is that this is the closest they have ever been to Modernity (Word favoured by Tories, i.e - P Lillie " Land of Chattering classes! 1998") HE HE HE LOLOLOL

  • What a day it was!

The Tories didn't stand a chance!

  • I can't work out if Cameron is loved or hated. The opinion polls seem to show him in favour, but the words im hearing are not good. I think he is a joke.

  • I've never seen this, and I think I would remeber the cheesy-ness of it (although I think it's still quite effective in its own way). Mind you, I was only 10 in 1997! My parents were so happy when Labour got in, I can't imagine how they (and I) would feel if Cameron and his cronies got their hands on Britain...

  • Great Ad, but why's he wearing a blue shirt? It might of encouraged people to vote Tory. Mind you a red shirt would look pretty stupid! And I can't stand that voice at the beginning of these videos, it's so awful.

  • YaY!

  • lol that is so true man, GO LABOUR !!! im gonna dye ma hair red now ! Yeah

  • I will cry all results day if Cameron wins. I pray that the majority of this country is not so short-sighted as to elect him.

  • Wow, what a day that was!!. Such a shame we are now bidding farewell to Tone... I do hope the imbeciles in this country one day appreciate what he has done for us.. It's very hard for a Lab P.M to do right by the majority whatever they do.The UK are Labour haters. Tony was the greatest bloody PM this country has ever had! Anyway, I hope Labour pulls though.. Ya know I see that Cameron winning and I don't know how Im gonna deal with it! Long live the Labour party. Yay!
