If a Malay gives up Islam, then by definition he is no more of the Malay "race", therefore is not entitled to all the unfair privileges accorded to Malays at the expense of non-Malay Malaysians. Syariah courts only have jurisdiction over Muslims. If the religion of a person is in question, then it is for the civil courts to determine. But Art 121(1A) is being abused by syariah courts to even determine the religion of a person, which means that it already accept that the person is a Muslim! What is there to determine then! When it involves non-Muslim, ie when a party of the couple converts to Islam, how can the non-Muslim spouse seek justice? Is this what Islam call "justice"?

@fgahadith In other democratic countries, you are absolutely right. But in Malaysia, you are flawed. The Malay "race" is defined in the Constitution as Muslim among other characteristics. If a Malay gives up Islam, then by definition he is no more of the Malay "race", therefore is not entitled to all the unfair privileges accorded to Malays at the expense of non-Malay Malaysians. The Islam practised in Malaysia not only monopolises a race, it also monopolises certain words/language, eg Allah.

Syariah courts only have jurisdiction over Muslims. If the religion of a person is in question, then it is for the civil courts to determine. But Art 121(1A) is being abused by syariah courts to even determine the religion of a person, which means that it already accept that the person is a Muslim! What is there to determine then! When it involves non-Muslim, ie when a party of the couple converts to Islam, how can the non-Muslim spouse seek justice? Is this what Islam call "justice"?

study more about malaysian law. there's a provison in art 121(1) for the exception in jurisdiction of the syariah courts.
although the federal constitution is the supreme law, the muslims still have to follow the muslim law which is syariah law. all the matters is being settled, all the law expertise is figuring out the matter so the muslims and the non-muslims could live in peace. stop making a big issue out of it when it was only a remote case.

It does not make Islam a true religion any more than Bank of America a holy place of worship. What scientific evidence in the Quran? Islam and the Quran are the antitheses of Science and progress! Compare modern embriology with the embriology as stated in the Quran and you will realise that Quranic "facts" are nothing but outdated/wrong knowledge dating back to Aristotle (before Christ BTW!). You are speaking of "defending" Utopian ism. Not the practice of Islam. There's a difference. When a National Clone (soldier / police officer) forbids me from practicing "my Religion" which is the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution, then we have a problem. WE are all free to practice our rituals/beliefs as long as they don't put others in harm's way.
Islamically, you may only "defend" against an aggressor. It is FORBIDDEN to Pre-emptively strike like your hallowed US, British, Europeans do.

There are NOT 1001 interpretations of Islam itself, but, 1001 interpretations of some verses of the Qu'ran as those verses evolve with contemporary society. The doctrinal basis of Islam is what all muslims subscribe to: ie. Unity of G*d, unseen world, afterlife,etc.
Here in America & elsewhere, we are ALREADY practicing much of Shariah Law.

Got beaten badly by the same persons who told me so. I don't believe in god, that was the conclusion of my studies. Oh ya, indeed we are allowed (and encouraged) my former ustadz (religious madrasah teacher) told me the same nice thing. Soon as I got my hand into some bible and shinto as well as buddhist scriptures, I was beaten.

cont.- With regards to a believe in God or the concept of afterlife, I can only say that theists have yet been able to answer to their burden of proof. There is no logical reasoning to prove the existence of either God or the afterlife. Most evidences that theists have provided are but superficial evidences, the legitimacy of which often falls upon closer examinations.
With regards to your question pertaining my believe on whether I have anything that I believe is greater than myself, I'd say..

about how religious freedom could actually be exercised in nations like Malaysia. Certainly, you can't push for religious freedom within a state by looking at yourself. It is something that concerns the state, its people and the international community and not individual self.
Finally, with reference to your last statement, I do not see the need nor the benefit of becoming a submissive being. Afterall, faith is not reason. It is irrational and intolerant to things that do not conform by it.

Reason and rationality is what make a person adaptive and flexible, appropriately responding to situations because he understands them and knows what are the best solutions. He is not restricted by faith to conform to solutions that are proven to be out-of-date or non-functional. A faithful hence is at more danger of becoming extinct whereas a person who is adaptive is not only likely to survive but also progress/evolve.

This makes Islam even more dangerous than any criminal/terrorist organisation as any Muslim next-door is a potential Muslim militant. The more religious they are the higher the risk.
