@stlallstar maybe, maybe not. it's hard to say right now. apple is shifting away from cd and dvd media, however they could still include a superdrive in the next refresh, because the MacBook Pro is targeted at professionals, hence it's name and they still use optical media on a regular basis.

@AdamBadr It makes perfect sense. The update at the end of 2011 was very minor, just a processor speed upgrade. This is a whole new line of computers. Probably gonna be the biggest update of Mac laptops since the introduction of the unibodys in 2008

@12345Joeable the 15 inch model is a lot more powerful then the 13 inch model. the 15 inch has dedicated graphics card, while the 13 inch only has an integrated graphics card, so if you plan on gaming, i suggest you buy the 15 inch model. The 13 inch model is pretty good though and its also powerful and more portable. In the end you have to chose between power and portability.
You didnt mention anything about their liquidmetal technology they licensed that they should be incorporating into the new Macs. Thats a BIG hint at a redesign and more awesomeness to come.

@ultraret Yeah but what you're overlooking is that some upgrades are more profound than others; like he says in the video, there are many new features that have been rumoured for some time (like a thinner design, maybe SSD as standard, new screen etc). These things are worth waiting for, I mean you'd be a fool not to. In my opinion. I know there's always the"if you wait for the next model you'll always be waiting cos there's always a next model brigade"but really, that argument is too simplistic

Personally, I don’t think Apple would really make the Macbook Pros much thinner, because if they do, then that’s taking away what makes the Macbook Airs special. Apple already completely stopped selling the white Macbook. If the Pros are designed just like the Airs, but more powerful, then who would want an Air anymore? If no one buys the Airs anymore, then they would likely stop being sold and that would leave Apple with only one laptop to sell, the Macbook Pro.
@thebeetofmyheart In my opinion, the macbook air is a replacement for the old 'macbook' and because of the fact that the macbook air is so thin, it does without power. Having said this, the macbook air is also the cheapest option in the mac lineup, so having said all this, i think if they make the macbook pro thinner, it will be welcomed as it will be similar to the old 'macbook / macbook pro' lineup the had, except in this situation, the macbook air is the smaller, less powerful cheaper version

@AdamBadr It makes perfect sense. The update at the end of 2011 was very minor, just a processor speed upgrade. This is a whole new line of computers. Probably gonna be the biggest update of Mac laptops since the introduction of the unibodys in 2008

@12345Joeable the 15 inch model is a lot more powerful then the 13 inch model. the 15 inch has dedicated graphics card, while the 13 inch only has an integrated graphics card, so if you plan on gaming, i suggest you buy the 15 inch model. The 13 inch model is pretty good though and its also powerful and more portable. In the end you have to chose between power and portability.

love them to have blu ray but i doubt it since last yr steve jobs said he didn't care for it although most other laptops now have that as standard, also having ram expansion up to 12 gb would be great and a 4k screen would be awesome if not 1080p screen as the standard since macs are so expensive they should do right be the customers

@UniBoxSystem will it "be better than may last one?" Answer: of course. Anyone who knows a little about technology will you that whatever you buy today will be outdone in a year or less.
He already gave his timeline for when it may come about. Between Feb-May (i'm hoping February, but that's being overly optimistic)
I can't imagine apple LOWERING the number of cores on their latest macbook pros. That would not put them in a good spot.
Keep in mind, what you have is pretty darn powerful

@ultraret Yeah but what you're overlooking is that some upgrades are more profound than others; like he says in the video, there are many new features that have been rumoured for some time (like a thinner design, maybe SSD as standard, new screen etc). These things are worth waiting for, I mean you'd be a fool not to. In my opinion. I know there's always the"if you wait for the next model you'll always be waiting cos there's always a next model brigade"but really, that argument is too simplistic

Personally, I don’t think Apple would really make the Macbook Pros much thinner, because if they do, then that’s taking away what makes the Macbook Airs special. Apple already completely stopped selling the white Macbook. If the Pros are designed just like the Airs, but more powerful, then who would want an Air anymore? If no one buys the Airs anymore, then they would likely stop being sold and that would leave Apple with only one laptop to sell, the Macbook Pro.

@thebeetofmyheart In my opinion, the macbook air is a replacement for the old 'macbook' and because of the fact that the macbook air is so thin, it does without power. Having said this, the macbook air is also the cheapest option in the mac lineup, so having said all this, i think if they make the macbook pro thinner, it will be welcomed as it will be similar to the old 'macbook / macbook pro' lineup the had, except in this situation, the macbook air is the smaller, less powerful cheaper version

Do you think Apple will get rid of the optical drive with the refreshed 2012 model? I am really trying to hold on and not get the current "late 2011" model but I don't want to loose the built in optical drive.
