  • (This doc is excellent; I meant the Corporate medical system racket;-))

  • The Medical Racket Yep; we pumped you full of our High Fructose Corn Syrup and Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils; so; yeah those triglycerides are high; that'll be $200 for the blood test corporate measurment. Pay the Private Corporation now for the measurement ; yep; you sure are filled up with fats; and oh by the way; you gotta be RE measured again every time for another $200 billing cycle before we let you purchase our corporate pill for another $200. And then remeasured every 2 months

  • I can only imagine that the deceptive corporations that engage is this kind of foul ; filthy behavior have to be republican run.

  • you rule

  • Great info. I just ran across this video looking for something else and I am really happy to have found this. The way you deciphered and decoded the ingredients of that "oatmeal" bar was great. Can you explain synthetic organic foods I ran across that term a few times over the past few weeks. I know it's self explanitory but in regards to vegans and vegeterians how does this affect them when some of the chemical elements could very well be animal by- products with a scientific sounding name?

  • @AMWalker926 In all honesty, I am not familiar with the somewhat oxymoronic term "synthetic organic foods." Certainly the term "organic" means different things to different people...it means something very different to a chemist vs a one who has a vegan-style eating pattern. I will look into this and thank you for bringing it to my attention!

  • I was wondering if you were aware of the mercury found in corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. This is concerning me greatly and I haven't been able to find any more information on it other than that which I read in a few articles online. They were valid sources, but I wanetd to know if it has been resolved? The mercury comes from the caustic soda used to soak and separate the starch from the kernels of the corn. This really is an outrage.

  • @Joyness333 Yes, the literature on mercury in HFCS as a byproduct of the processing is legitimate even though the study was limited in many respects. In any case, chemical processing and extraction are bound to leave chemical impurities in the final product, so all things being equal, we are best served by minimizing our exposure to processed products. Thank you for your comment.

  • @salvatorebellombo You are absolute right...the Quaker man is perceived as the "halo" of blanket approval which is not the case! As well, you are spot on about the bacon and eggs being healthier than the processed crap.

  • You know when they said "HFCS is no different than ordinary sugar" in those ads? They're actually not lying. HFCS is not any worse for us then regular fructose, the problem is the quantity. HFCS makes it too easy to have to much sugar, but it is no worse than regular everyday fructose.

  • @ChrisL101 Very good points made! HFCS used as a sweetener in drinks is 55/45 fructose/glucose vs table sugar which is 50/50, so you're largely correct. Fructose is OK in moderate amounts...eg, is the key sugar in fruit...of course fruit also has phyto-nutrients and fiber, etc. The problem is that in processed foods and drinks, the quantity is outrageous and because of the way fructose is metabolized, promotes fat storage. Sugar is no bargain either and should be used moderately.

  • @incontinencedoc Exactly, fructose, in my opinion, is a poison in the quantities we are consuming it at. People want to totally blame HFCS, but it's not that terrible, it's the quantity. But the fact that there's no fiber in those sugary drinks to slow it's digestion, like in fruit, it turns straight into fat.

  • I really like this doctor and I say this stuff all the time, finally someone of authority who is on the same page as me!! I am so sick of going to doctors who are overweight themselves, with high blood pressure and high cholesterol themselves and they think I want to put MY life in their hands when these doctors clearly can't even take care of their own health? Yeah right! That is why I only go to natural/alternative or holistic doctors whenever possible.

  • @bharrod You are very much right....if docs are going to talk the talk, we've got to walk the walk. I am a firm believer that if I am going to advise my patients on pursuing a healthy lifestyle, I had better be living that lifestyle. Thank you.

  • What is your opinion on Fluoride? I am highly opposed.

  • @apeshyt I would prefer NO additives to my water or food...natural, unadulterated, pure is ideal. All "dogma" needs to be questioned!

  • Ha! Hope you have a slew of those "horse's ass" awards to handout across the food/beverage industry, Dr. Siegel..! You couldn't be more right... and thank you for breaking out those "foods" created in a chemist's lab instead of from the farm... And great book btw... "Finding Your Own Fountain of Youth" is a must read for everyone wanting to feel great and look great throughout their lives!

  • For the record...no cue cards,no teleprompter, pretty much off the top of my head...that is why pace of speech is somewhat slow! Cut me a break!

  • so what do you recommend, doctor?

virtually ALL of the food in supermarkets is toxic nowadays and buying from farmers is illegal in most states and still elaborate in the others.

  • @1schwererziehbar1 Excellent point....it really is difficult to maintain a healthy diet, given the toxicity of many foods available to us. All we can do is to do our best and spend our resources on the highest quality foods available...organic, locally grown, as close to the natural state as possible, staying away from the Western diet, fast foods, junk, processed,etc...it is a true challenge.

  • Great, thanks, very interesting, loved the bit at the end about cigarettes, how right you are. :)

  • A credit to your profession! :-)

  • You make some very good points. You should be working for the FDA...it's the only way you MIGHT make a dent.

  • @musca999 I think I might like that!

  • LOL hes reading cue cards XDDD

  • good man, ethical doctor... rare to see unfortunately. Keep it up.

  • Andrew Siegal, AKA Dr. Obvious.

  • @Top40ModernRockPlay Wish I had a clue what you mean.

  • I'm going to Kentucky Fried Chicken, I mean KFC.

  • Really liked your video! Though, to be honest, this is information i learned as a child growing up in Canada.

  • this guy is kinda robotic :?

  • @crf88 I'll take that as a complement!

  • I agree, your slow way of talking in the video is a little distracting. Despite that, I appreciate this video. I eat a lot of this kind of crap everyday(unfortunately) and I to seriously need to get in gear and make better choices. Throw out these awful foods. Wonderful and informative video. Thank you sir.

  • @DamianGarcia92 hes reading cue cards, so yea he can't talk fast

  • @Silverjda That is about the slowest I have ever spoken...I usually have the opposite problem. However, I wasn't reading anything other than referring to a few written notes. Most of it was "off the cuff" and I probably should have had it better scripted to keep it moving along. Nonetheless, the message was conveyed.

  • @Silverjda No cues, just thinking and articulating.

  • Nothing new here.

  • Products like this are the main reason I am making more and more things at home.

  • @LadyWeasel Very smart!

  • I like how he awared the horses' ass to big food industry, since we're basically eating their shit that comes from it.

  • @LazyOtaku Well stated!

  • The print on the ingredients could be larger if there weren't so many of the ingredients, since they have to fit it all on there they have to make the print very small!

  • @SaraAB87 There is plenty of room for the ingredients to be printed in larger font, it just doesn't look appealing to have a wrapper covered with a bunch of words most people can't even pronounce. Notice the other half of the bottom of the wrapper is completely empty. Their small font is very much intentional.

  • We recently 'grabbed' a package of granola bars . . . THEN I read the ingredients and there were FIVE kinds of sugar in the bars . . . I am NOT happy and threw them out. I sent a letter to Campbell's soup complaining about the main ingredient in their Tomato soup . . . the send me a form letter and a coupon for a free can of Tomato soup! dang. I found a healthy, organic brand and it's MUCH better . . . but three times the cost . . . for fewer ingredients . . . big biz has us by the . . . .

  • @patsarts You are SO right...they don't give a rat's ass about anything other than their bottom line. I made a real effort with Girl Scouts of America to try to get them to put healthy ingredients in their cookies.....I received no response whatsoever despite multiple letters to the CEO.

  • Thanks doc! It looks like once again your health will come down to making your own food.

  • It was an effort to watch this...your speech is slow and fractured....and you appear to be uncomfortable and that leaves you stiff and unnatural. That distracts from the content of your video. I agree with what you say...just wish you were more comfortable in front of the camera.

  • @afwhitney Your critique has some valid points, but has a bit of a nasty edge to it. I'm not a professional broadcaster, the video was largely spontaneous and done on a single take, and my point was to simply to help educate and inform the public regarding healthy eating.

  • Ah, the old flap-over-the-ingredients trick ....those bastards! Keep up the good work Doc!

  • Thank you Dr. Siegel! I have celiac disease and have to read every label! I appreciate your desire to education the public on what the food industry as well as the FDA doesn't want us to know!! I feel sorry for the children who are the innocent victims and don't have any choice in what they are given to eat today.

  • I often look up the MSDS on these ingredients. I shouldn't have to do this for things I eat.

  • ..thank you. i'm so very excited to hear from a medical doctor. as a waitress i work near a teaching hospital, i have had 20 years to watch people consume things and then surmise about their subsequent health issues, i'd rest easier at night knowing that at least some of your profession are trying to make people more aware of how it is exactly we should expect to sustain life comfortably.

  • I was hoping you would mention about BHT. Another EVIL I avoid. What is your take on it???

  • @RevWrona BHT, an anti-oxidant food preservative....also an additive in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, jet fuels, rubber, petroleum products, electrical transformer oil and embalming fluid. Thank you, I prefer my foods without BHT, all things being equal!

  • which breads? not the plain italian i hope?.... Siegal, thanks for your service.

  • Some Subway breads contain High Fructose Corn Syrup.

  • Speed it up a bit for petes sake.

  • Bravo Andy! Excellent and informative... another Dr. Siegel classic.
