It can matter as far as throughput and search time performance go, since the "OS" is initialy located on Disk(sort of) and needs to have things moved to ram to boot

having a fast disk WILL matter (thats why gamers like to buy those 10000 rpm raptor disks instead of the standard 7200 rpm)

no mate sorry your computer is not fast, i have spend only $700.00 on my home built pc it has 4 gig matched ram am2 6000+ 512 nividia gforce 9600 graphics very fast hdd's and very fast mother board and with 37 start up programs running including virtual servers i can have my computer start running vista ultimate 64x in just under 23 seconds and thats from when i push the power button not when it starts loading, with a experiance rating of 6 on everything

i agree with the comment below, however, i have had a few experiences on my friends comp where i hit the button and within 10-15 seconds, im loading up warcraft. i suppose it simply depends on the size and quantity of programs you will initially be running when you open up your OS.

yeah both of you are right i think but if i had to guess what makes the boot times faster on different machines is the amount of apps you have on it and how much rpm your hd gets... like if i had a solid state drive then bootup would be like 5 secs with no programs installed... thats how i see it...

Ive had Vista though and I bet you a million dollars XP doesn't come up annoying you about everything....UAC sucks, even when off a balloon always prompts and asks if you want UAC on...
