Damn 80's wrestling seems like that was the peak of Pro Wrestling not even the late 90's. Multiple companies, territories, hard working and hard playing wrestlers. Too bad I wasnt even a twinkle in my dads eye yet as of this match!
Many of the stadiums Jim Crockett and Dusty Rhodes booked the great american bash at was a big mistake.Sending them to places like Cincinnatti, and philadelphia was a huge mistake, because the stadiums were never close to being filled. If they would have just stayed in the south like they used to do,maybe Crockett would'nt have lost money back them and wouldn't have had ot sell out to Turner, and we's still be watching JCP on tv today.Okay maybe not,but i can't help but think how things would be now
Thank You for posting this great match. I miss the good ol' days of wrestling. I miss the NWA, WWF & WCCW. It was the best time to be a wrestling fan.
i had this on beta. these were the dayz. watching this compared to the wwf. you could see the difference. i was hooked on the nwa and never looked back.
@MickieJamesismyslave Yes he did. Can't remember they year but may have been the one on here. Anyway Flair had thirty matches in thirty days. All title defense's.
I saw Flair wrestle at the Boston Garden in 1987. I think that was the year & I wonder if it was the GAB tour? Anyway,he pinned Windham after a 45 minute bloodbath. One of the best matches I ever saw live, maybe the best one.
flair was nothing his a self self man ive never been a flair fan but fuck me scott stenier, nash, hall and many more cant stand flair i the funnyiest thing i heard was a crying grown up baby lol
hawk shame u fucked up ur life with drugs but its for the fans these men do this rip
i'll bet that none of the wrestlers nowadays could defend a belt for 30 days straight with the same class and style of Ric Flair...he is truly one of a kind..and RIP Hawk you were taken too soon.
This match just like many other flair matches was a let down. ie.. flair vs morton, flair vs scott stiener, flair vs savage at wrestlemania 8, and the biggest joke of all time ... all of the flair vs sting matches. sting is one of the most over rated wrestlers of all time. if you watch any flair vs sting match you'll see the same match over and over again and sting doing the same five moves.
I was at this show, July 1 86. It wasn't about a feud; the angle was Flair defending the title 20 times in 30 days at all of the Bash's, most of them at outdoor stadiums then drop the belt to Dusty at the end of the tour. They used almost everyone who wasn;t a Horseman in a title match against Flair that month.
yeah he did. got it on tape horseman hated warriors. this wasn't even their best match, their best match was in a dark arena cause the power went out. They were still using ozzy's music back then, great times. I don't know if this is that match, but there are others on tape. tag and single.
yes indeed hawk feuded with flair. hawk and flair had many confrontations on tv including run ins during each others matches...in fact, they wrestled during the bunkhouse stampede of 86 as well.
Mind you I thought tommy young was a jerk of a referee back when I was a kid brcause I thought he alwaysed favored Flair and I really did not like Flair until later in life but tommy young was a really good referee i wa misinformed
I was here (or there) in Philly at the old Vet (Stadium) for this the 1st of the Great American Bash cards in '86, I remember the crowd going crazy as Hawk came to the ring with the spiked shoulder pads, etc. But then Ric came out of the dugout with his theme music blaring, hands on his hips, the epitome of greatness and arrogance, and I told my brother that I finally get it, when it comes to Ric. He was the villian but we couldn't deny him being 'the man'.
You morons do realize the premise right? This is back when the GAB was a month long event, not one night. Flair was going to defend the belt for 30 straight days, and this was his 1st match. Knowledge is key boys. Go get some.
@sanddune Oh yes, great sanddune...you're knowledge is humbling. We were all just poor little morons until we learned the truth of the Great American Bash from 20 years ago.
@sanddune i truly give you a big thumbs up for remembering this fact. i thought i was the only one that did. 30 nights, 30 great events... can you picture wrestling in a big stadium these days? i would love it, but wrestling will not be that big again...
@sanddune Actually, the premise (as I recall) was that Flair would defend the title 18 times against 18 contenders, one for each city on the GAB tour that summer. What made this special was that no previous champ had ever defended the title so many times in so short a period (6-8 weeks). I recall this angle well because I saw that GAB in Charlotte, where Flair beat Ricky Morton in a cage. Though I was displeased over the choice of Morton, I must say that he delivered the goods.
@TheLeroyMoon I hear ya, I was at GAB 86 in Charlotte. Hell of a night, brings back good old memories lol. I recall more fights in the stands than in the ring lol. Flair arriving in the Channel 9 helicopter and after the match all the kids bumrushed the ring, tried to have a battle royal. I can't recall if it was Tony Schavoni or Jim Ross that chased us all out lol. Was that David Allen Coe that put on the pre match concert do you recall? Back then Charlotte NC was almost worth a shit lol.
@BradNC11175 Amen: as a Charlotte native, I prefer the pre-bball Charlotte. Coe was the pre-card show at GAB1 where Flair beat N. Koloff. I can't recall the concert for the following 2 GABs in Charlotte. I recall kids in the ring, & I'm pretty certain it was Schavone & David Crockett that chased everyone out. There wasn't as much fighting at the 1rst GAB as at the 2nd/3rd - I guess people were more respectful of the rare"one-of-a-kind" event. By the 3rd, they took the GAB for granted.
@TheLeroyMoon I have to admit I am greatful for NFL football here now but other than that they can keep the rest of the post bball Charlotte. All I know is if someone says to you "Yo momma looks like Dusty Rhodes" you gotta throw down lol. Flair and Morton both brought it that night and the whole show was pretty good from start to finish. It's amazing how many of the matches from that night alone are now popping up on these WWE DVDs: Road Warriors vs. Koloffs chain match, Flair vs. Morton etc.
@TheLeroyMoon hi brad its lee using a freinds computer sorry i been away for so long i cant help it im in jail and will be for some time to come . do me a faver when you get to my age [i cant remember if your older than me or not ] never start or should i say finnish a fight that when your done tells the cops haha the cawerd ive only got two more months to go so i hope i will be able to talk proper again soon i also have to talk to eric and king larry so i best get off see you real soon lee
It would have been cool to have him drop the belt two or three times during this run. In other words, "wrestling isn't fake and things can happen which are suprising." It's always a lot more fun when shocking things happen, like let Ricky Morton have the belt for one day and then have Flair win it back the next day. The crowd would have gone ape shit for the title change.

Looks like a mismatch on paper, Hawk's gotta be 6'3 280-285 pounds. Probably benches 550 pounds but Ric Flair is the Nature Boy.

Jim Crockett was a dummy. Vince McMahon, by far, is the greatest wrestling promoter of all time. ANYBODY in the business will vouch for that.
