  • NCLB wasn't never about raising academic standards, it was about transferring the dollars needed for education to other interests. Test scores where the vehicle to deny funding. True to conservative form the administrators & teachers don't share the same risks & rewards. In the event NCLB was about acedemic standards it would have created vehicle to ID where the problems are & provide additional funding if needed to address problem

  • What a lame excuse, it happened 37 years ago. So fucking what? He plead guilty to sexual abuse of a minor. Do we say, well those priests did it twenty years ago, but they've been good priests since. What bullshit. The guy is a pedophile. And shame on you for blaming the vicxtim.. A 14 year old cannot consent. Period. Stop drinking the cool aid, Red diaper dopoer. Liberalism IS a disease!

  • @Bxcowboy Liberalism isn't quite as serious a disease as being a thick-as-pigshit bigot. Plus peter yarrow has not reoffended in 37 years, that's about 36 years 11 months 29 days and 23 hours better than you're going to manage

  • if it were my 14 yr old he never would have been able to sing again

  • Amen to jeffrydebra

  • chris christie wuld howl at tis..school isnt focused on academics.....HUH????? love his music..tis is BS..schools cant teach character tht comes from HOME, family, church temple mosque. people need to read write and do math. if you cant speak or read, how can you make it in this world left wing clap trap. .

  • @cullengal102 What are U talking about? Yarrow didn't dismiss academics, in fact he stated there importance before he spoke about what U R characterizing a left wing clap trap. the faithful institutions have long ago stop instilling character in the youth. Schools can & should pick up the slack.

  • Peter Yarrow is a wise man with a good heart. I wish everyone would listen to him and sincerely think about what he says.

  • HE HUGGED ME

  • Someone send this to NJ governor Chris Christie.

  • Peter Yarrow kicks ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mark Molaro is beautiful! And I love Pete Yarrow. LOVE!

  • jamie2628-I loved all that Peter Yarrow stands for, his wisdom, his kindness. If we could only not be divided by money, who has the most is loved. By skin color, by prejudging people. If we could not be made fun of as children, if we are different. Then there would be no wars. Good God, the world would be so different. What a concept. Stay with the peacemakers. Say I'm sorry.

  • Yarrow has more common sense than all the individuals put together that believe that No Child Left Behind is working. It isn't working and Yarrow is right. It does nothing but promote unrealistic expectations using fear.

  • Go CVActor1!! I am not even going to bother looking for whoever this mike person is - but I enjoy seeing folks actually having some common sense - AND stay classy.

Mary Travers will be missed by so many - and it should be by all. Such a wonderful light in our many times of darkness.

  • My GOD Mike, why is there always someone who makes a crack like you? That "child" was FOURTEEN. I don't think he knew her real age. In fact, Yarrow never molested a child. Unless, the term molestation can be used vaguely to include absolutely disgusting, repulsive, and puerile behavior. If there were laws against these behaviors, of course, most college classes would have to be held in county jails. And tonight we are mourning Mary Travers - NOT defaming Peter Yarrow, so PUT A SOCK IN IT!

  • your post plagiarizes some website post by Jack Howard Aug 2008

  • Peter Yarrow is a Brilliant man I cant say I have listned to all his song but I love If I had a hammer and I love the interviews he does.

  • I love Peter Yarrow - but zzzzzzzzzzz.. This is even more boring than I remember school ever being :)

  • "there is too much focus on academics"

sounds crazy but he's right. i can read and solve algebretic equations, does that mean i can succeed in the real world? We need a genereation that can make wise decisions, think critically, and develop self discipline. it WILL benefit the country.

  • The latter is what university is for.

  • Many things in the world of education have changed since I was in school. being dyslexic, and battling ADD & ADHD for almost half a century.

In our local schoold district, there are very good support systems to help students like me.

Unfortunately, here in Texas, teachers teach in spite of the state's structure and requirements, rather than because of them.

  • Did you write "algebretic" equations on purpose?

  • he was so right on.

  • ..Bill is ok the only thinker on the show this guy is a singer please sing or then run for office This is classic PBS stuff

  • wow never heard that story what happened

  • Peter is one of a kind. His kindness is so wonderful. He is shows an example of how someone in a very peaceful world would behave.

  • my name is yarrow!OMG

  • Peter is a national treasure

  • I love Peter Yarrow. I had a great moment watching this very in-depth and moving interview. Good work Mark!

  • folk music rules

  • Such patience in practice! Thank you Peter for your patience in the face of ignorance all these years, and thank you Mark for listening and disseminating!

  • Beverly - that is something that happened 37 years ago .. what were those girls doing at his hotel room? They went there as groupies to try to get at a famous person. STOP bringing it up for G'ds sake! This is a man who has done nothing but good in the world in these 37 years since.

Peter Yarrow you are terrific - we need more like you in the world, no doubt! Kids are not prejudice til adults teach them to be. I know it because I lived it ... Peace Peter :)

  • mzjazz37:

I totally agree with your statement about the "incident". I know Peter and he is truly a wonderful example for everybody to follow. For most of his career he has done countless great deeds for the good of everybody. Instead of tearing him down for something that happened almost 40 years ago, we should respect and admire him for all the good he has done (and continues) to do. People should try to be as good as he is, not criticize him.

  • if only everyone could see this, sad a lot don't.

  • thank you, none of us are born with hate, it's taught, and unfortunately, some of us need to learn to overcome it.

  • @mzjazz37 You've never met Peter Yarrow, have you? Well, I have. He's a very small, nervous, problem-ridden man, just like you and I. He gets angry. He's not a particularly kind man. I am not passing judgment on him as much as I am passing judgment on you. People like you foolishly look "up" to others as sources of inspiration and make famous people seem like angels just because they're famous. Guess what, Peter Yarrow is a lowly human being just like the rest of us and I know that first hand..

  • That last comment is bulls**t

  • I have seen Peter Yarrow do several interviews in the past, they are all very interesting. This was one of his best.

  • Peter's wonderful in this interview

  • Thank you Mark, and thank you for all your life, Peter.

  • I love Peter - great interview!
