We have Carter sirens here in Timaru, New Zealand for tsunami warnings, so every month we would hear this very sound all over the town....

@Leycomsucks I seriously doubt it. Not everyone has a mobile phone, some may not have it near them all the time, some may be on silent, some people wait a while to read texts and so on... but it would be useful in addition to these sirens.

@CrazzySteveable It's interesting to hear people talk about the sirens like this. I heard them all growing up because I lived in a nuclear government town in the 1970's. I never associated them with anything dangerous. They were used for drills, and also as "beginning" and "end" of the daily work shifts at the government buildings. So when I heard them it meant dad was coming home cuz the work day was over.

The siren is still on the Cable and Wireless building in St. Martins as that was the one I pictured for my video of the sirens in Guernsey.

yes there is one there as can be heard in my other siren video. it's there for Liberation Day and Armistice day sounding.
