This idiom definitely captures both our fears and hopes--fear because Chinese is difficult, but hope because it is possible to have success when coupled with diligent study! :-)
In Europe exist idioms from latin, north and center of Europe Anglo-Saxonic idioms. We have more dificult to learn oriental languages because not exist a common ruthle, among them on Asia. Roman Empire gives to Europe one inspiration so as the Greeks too.
Now English is difficult to Chinese people as well but we started learning it since we were young and it is being used all over the world. Age is a really important factor in language learning, it's going to be more difficult as u age. You grew up in China, you are supposed to speak the local language, therefore you're not even qualified to speak about this subject. About the thing people say to you in China, it's supposed to be a complement. Not many foreigners speak it well. that's all.
I don't see the point of debating with you, you are talking trash. Every language is learnable, I never said Chinese is not learnable. The fact is that there are languages that are more difficult to learn and there are languages that are easier. For western foreigners, Chinese is definitely one of the most difficult languages to learn comparing to many languages in Europe, such as Spanish and French, due to the huge differences in the languages.
@DrMMHMD I didn't mean that, I mean it's hard for me to learn English too...
The reason I said that was Chinese is a totally different conception, each Chinese character has different meaning and some carry really deep meanings that doesn't even exist in other languages. 2-8 characters are then combined to form deeper meanings, lots of them even carry stories behind them.
I don't think Chinese people are smarter than everyone else, it's obviously a stereotype.
How do Chinese people actually learn all these complicated characters? The same way us Western people do? By writing it down over and over again to repeat it?

@DreamsSC1691 Maybe you are smarter than I am.
I started learning English since I was 1.
English just somehow came naturally; however, I am stilling working on proper English and speaking constantly. It took a lot of hard work from me.
I am 100% Chinese, grew up in China and there are still a lot for me to learn in Chinese.
