They are ALL Lobbyists for Corporations and AIPAC.

@captinseperoth : there's nobody disagreeing with your point about business or capitalism: Nader himself makes your exact point at 20:54 - but the problem lies in the small percent age of disaster capitalists who brought this carnage on all of us, and then turned to socialism in the form of government handouts with taxpayers money to bail them out. Welcome to American politics. Lord if the current two were not runinng the US into the groud, it would not be as bad. But these guys are the only ones who get it and often do not get a chance.
hey how come these guys are not alowed to debate with Dems and Republicans. What kind of freedom is that. I was more free in Communist Yugoslavia then in todays US
@DadoPennsylvania The freedom talk is all rhetoric. We like in a corrupt corporatist regime. At least the top 5 parties should be allowed to debate but that will never happen here.
@jmjfanss I know Nader is total BS. He always is saying how I'm for the Constitution yet he's not at all. Not even on freedom, because he supports gun control.
You are the dumbest cunts Ive ever heard. Nader is BS? Your parents are BS for making an ignorant little cunt child like you. Are seatbelts BS? Is nutrition information on food BS? Are airbags BS? Are Surgeon Generals warnings BS? You can thank Mr. Nader for all of that. Keep your ignorance internal and leave critical examination to people who are capable of it. You are a fucking waste of the internet, now fuck off.
Nader is a moron. He wants government to be in control of everything and anything. Also on the note of seatbelts, air bags, and nutrition information. Well all of those are wonderful things, but they are the consumer responsibility. I feel that government should have no rules on this. If they give false information than they should be sued, but overall it's the consumers responsibility to tell what's good for them. Like when you eat you should as a individual find out what's in it.
Also he's for gun control and single payer healthcare. That's not freedom it's just taking away from the private sector so you can reward the lazy in society and hurt the system as a whole.
Some unfairly paint the Nader/Gonzalez candidacy as being for big government. Nothing could be more untrue.
Nader/Gonzalez supports a government of the people, by the people, for the people. We agree with Congressman Paul that government is rife with waste and corporate demands, and needs to be scaled back in many areas — most of all the bloated, wasteful US military budget, which is half of the governments total operating budget.
We are also against big government doling out hundreds of billions in corporate welfare, subsidies, and bailouts to companies.
We support abolishing income tax on the first $50,000 of income to be made up with a fraction of a percent Wall Street speculation tax, especially on derivatives.
Well I agree with him on getting rid of corporate welfare, but he still want's big government. I'm for getting rid of big government department, entitlements, and reasonable military cuts. The only thing I want to increase is border security.
Well I don't call government run single payer healthcare small. And he pretty much wants government to have more power in almost every industry. He'll make military smaller and he'll give more personal freedoms by eliminating the Patriot Act and legalizing drugs. I support that and when it comes to the military I support getting rid of the 700 bases, cutting foreign aid,and getting rid of a lot of the waste there. Yet he's still for big government at least on the economy.
I definitely will agree that what Nader wants in terms of regulations and healthcare will make his government bigger than Baldwin's or Ron Paul's, but I don't that makes it 'big'. More like small-to-medium.
Single-payer healthcare still means private delivery and free choice.
To my knowledge, all he wants in terms of industry is more regulation for the fat-cats, not take-over or bailouts. He definitely believes in small businesses. That doesn't make it 'big government' does it? :)
Well I'm for government having no involvement in healthcare and industry. I feel that the federal government should only be involved in trade, military, immigration, and law.
How about I end by agreeing with you that that would be an ideal end goal? I happen to think government *can* be solution to problems (not corporate government) and that single-payer healthcare can be a intermediate step to what they have in Switzerland.
I understand, of course, that to conservatives and libertarians, I may sound like I'm speaking a contradiction.
@cpblackangel88 I never quite understand what is so inherently wrong with government if you compare it to private power. I mean the biggest difference seems to me to be that a corporation is a real tyranny (top-down structure) while government is atleast in principle democratic(not in practice). So what is so bad about government and why is the private sector better in this respect?
@cpblackangel88 So a system based on self-interested search for profits is in fact awesome if only the government didn't intervene? To just illustrate why this is wrong in my opinion, suppose the government privatizes water(which they do in the developing world). What happens is that water gets fixed at a certain price that's most profitable for the private sector. That might just mean that 20% of the population can't afford it. Now that doesn't seem to me like a very ethical thing to do...
What's more, certain choices are just not offered by the market because of problems of scale. So the market offers me the choice between a honda and a toyota but I don't get to choose to take the subway(because that's a democratic decision that requires substantial funds). Also ithe private sector just can't sustain itself. To illustrate, 50% of all the research is paid for by the government(most high-tech research actually), because it's too risky a venture to undertake for the private sector.
We need to let these guys participate in real debates. Let the people receive another option. It should be that any candidate who's willing to pay enough can get on the debate floor. This makes it fair. Competition is good in both business and politics. And there's not enough competition in politics. Think about it if they lose they'll just win 4 or 8 years later. And it's either you support one thing or the other you can't have a third opinion on what to do about the economy or foreign policy.
O and by the way the stock market concerns during 1987, 2001, and 2008 we're all caused BECAUSE of deregulation. From the 1940s to 1986 not one time did the stock market have a day that was worse then on black monday in 1987.
First, one thing you need to learn is to disagree agreeably. No need to swear just because we have a difference of opinion, its youtube not cable news trash. If anything deregulation does the opposite of what you just said, it makes it so the rich get richer in this case big business. If corporations paid the same taxation as they did 40 years ago the country would have an extra $250 billion dollars in the treasury.
Look many of the reasons why FDA is terrible today is because of deregulation. Ever since the Reagan Admin, programs such as this have been trimmed of the right people performing health and safety checks and being replaced by those who are hired by pharmaceutical companies so that their drug is pushed forward. Deregulation in certain areas does more harm than good, remember Nutrition Facts, Lead Shields at the Dentist, Seatbelts, Crash Testing, and Airline Renumerations are because of Nader
Ralph Nader did more with his first book Unsafe at Any Speed, then Ron Paul has done in his whole tenure as a congressman. I'm personally sick of Libertarians who want deregulation of everything, if we had a Libertarian instead of Teddy Roosevelt in office we would not have an FDA. I want hear one Libertarian come out and speak against why we shouldnt have more people in the FDA, because they have been reduced from 50,000 employees making quality checks to less then 10,000.
This debate is still relevant today and will be for some years to come.
It's a good demonstration of a "real" debate about "real" issues and "real" solutions that these two people believe in their positions and would really carry out them out.
One of the best parts, these two debaters can really starkly disagree without flinching about an issue and hold different solutions. No other politician in the main stream media could be in this debate without losing their fallacious popularity.
I was just thinking that, unlike the "major party" debates which are useless now, this debate is still relevant to modern politics. And Hedges gets a lot of hate but he kept this debate a real discussion.
PLEASE DO NOT READ DONT READ THIS PLEASE DO NOT READ DO NOT READ DO NOT READ swear do not read...I don't even know why I'm participating I guess I'm still a bit paranoid. But really do not read this I swear . Also thanks this was really appreciated. DO NOT READ:This is so stupid... But i love my mom deeply... And i don't want to take any chances. Sorry. I'm glad there are still free minds left in America. I hate liberals and pseudoconservatives!!! Republican and democrat suck aborted infant ass!!! Left and Right will collapse and truth will prevail!!
Nader reminds me of an old drunken college professor that stumbles his way into the lecture hall every morning. He was completely outclassed and outmatched by Baldwin in this "debate".
I was watching this debate on TV and making out with my girlfriend on the porch when all of a sudden, without notice, she quickly unzipped my Levis, pulled out Mr. Wiggly and gave me my first blow job. After about eight minutes and fifty four seconds, I came like a bucket full of silver dollars, wow!! Let me tell you, it felt REAL GOOD. Does any body know if that's about the right timing? I don't know if that was too fast or not. I held back for as long as I could. I'm 19 and she's 18, Bogart
Join the Modern Whig Party! We are the largest minor third party in the country, we are mainstream, non fringe (unlike the CP, libertarians, and greens), and we are creating a new ideology. In 2010 we will run three candidates for congress, one as a Dem, one as a Rep, and one as a Modern Whig. All three will be members of the MWP and practice mainstream solutions using the Modern Whig philosophy!
We are not centrist, we transcend the politcal spectrum.
viking- YOU WIN ! Youre the first to say anything at all about the REAL SOURCE OF AMERICAS FINANCIAL PROBLEMS ! This crisis that we have found ourselves shoved into had nothing whatsoever to do with most of what the " regular " media ie CNN , Fox , NBC , MSNBC etc. has told you caused it . It has been a well thought out plan that was orchestrated by the masters of our financial banking system & their good friends in royal familys & other powerful businessmen around the world.THE BILDEBERGERS !
Chuck Baldwin is thinking "man....can I vote for Nader?" hahaha wow Ralph Nader is so much more intelligent then all the other candidates. I would pay a year salary to watch Obama and McCain debate Nader haha.
You should check out a new site that's gainging support before Obama's Inauguration. UPLOAD your image quickly before it's too late!! Be part of history - support our president!!
HOPEINMANYFORMS . COM!!!
Spread the word!! Help me support our president!!!
it's good that the Holiday Inn and public access channels give these kooks a forum to speak to the other hotel guests about the issues instead of letting them wander around the mall looking for loose change on the floor.
I agree, Nader, Barr, and baldwin were just spoilers. Nader steals liberal voters and Barr and Baldwin steal conservative votes. If everyone who had voted Barr had voted McCain, McCain would have won Indiana and N.C.
Yeah, but all the higher-ups in the republican party are neo-conservatives and are against the very values of conservatism. You see these things in his actions.
McCain had to earn his votes. In a Democratic-Republic no one is entitled to anyone's vote. If McCain wanted Barr and Baldwin's votes, he'd have to prove why he's better than them (or better yet, he'd be man up and be a real conservative).
i think thats true but it is a necessary function. by taking away from solid constituencies, it forces the parties to cater to more people to get their votes. i think "spoilers" are a good thing
What would it take to open the debates and mandate instant run-off elections? Without debate participation, 3rd parties are toast. Without instant run-off elections voters fear 2 party spoilage. Entrenched political and corporate power does not benefit from such enhancements and would only lose the duopolistic power they have so carefully engineered by forming the bi-partisan CPD corporation, with its 15% polling requirement and by inciting fear with their spoiler accusations in '00.
fuck nader! he took critical votes from Al Gore that probably could have won him the presidency. thanks to that we had to endure 8 shitty years with Bush
Hmmm, well let's see, Bush is a retard and Gore is one the smartest persons on the planet. I don't know, what do you think? Oh and I'm not sure what Kerry would have done.
Really? I'm not saying I like Bush but it takes a smart man to convince the US Congress to get us into a super illogical war, pass the Patriot Act, and bailout Wall Street. One doesn't need to be a retard to be evil.
Yea cause freedom to choose a person who represents you and your individual views is totally Unamerican. Matter of fact, let's just get rid of the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution...
choose whoever you want but it sure as hell sucks that 8 years of shitty politics was the way to stick it to a two party system. i dont have to like nader and i have the right to say that. sorry was that unamerican as well?
I feel terrible Fox has made me ignorant and now that I've done my research I feel really bad. I SHOULD have put Ron Paul into consideration but the media stopped that from happening. I SHOULD be worrying about the federal reserve that did not happen.
search "rejected: how the media excluded alternative candidates in the 2008 primary" for an in-depth look at how the national media rejected Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, and Mike Gravel during the primary
neither evolution or creationism can be proved so just focus on talking about the election im voting for Nader he would go after the corporations and remove corporate lobbying in the u.s.
I live in Texas, a "slam-dunk" John McCain state, so I'm strongly considering voting for Nader. Not so much because I agree with all of his positions, but more to do with my dislike of the 2 major political parties.
I was born a Child of God, I became and American on the day of my Birth. At no time during my entrance into this world was I given the title of a Rebublican or Democrat. With that being said, 60 years later I am still a Child of God and a American. The only stance that I can take is to stand on God's priciples and support the Consitution of the United States of America which is also based on Godly principles. I have faith that our God has complete control of our future. God Forgive the people
I've never voted before because there has never been someone for me to believe in. my argument has always been, "Why vote for the lesser of the two evils? Why choose evil at all?"
Chuck Baldwin is exactly what I have been looking for. For once I feel like I could actually be proud of a president during my lifetime. The Bushes are nothing but evil and Clinton was a joke. Go Chuck, you've given me something to believe in for the first time ever.
I second that. Your a smart individual. Everytime I read comments like yours I feel good knowing that there is people out there that actually know that this dualistic monarchy of Democrat and Republican is complete hogwash. What do you think of Jesse Ventura?
Based on the success of this debate Barr did join Nader & Baldwin in the second 3rd party debate. You can find segments on youtube posted by GLASSBOTH youtube channel.
Alll 3 candidates did very well highlighting their similiarities and differences with each other & the 2 corupt parties.
I recomend people organise their friends & familes to watch these debates to convert them to independent voters so we can push for repreentation in the nextt election.
All you immature babbling idiots don't even care what they are saying or you would be disscussing issues, not peoples faults, grow up and be a patriot, care about the shit that effects you. not fruit, not animals, do you want Obama or Mcain to defile our government with their corrupt corporate money and ideas, or do want someone who knows what they are talking about and are not reading from a sript written by someone else. VOTE Ralph Nader who has done as much for our country if not more as FDR
of all the issues politicians and partys talk about, i think there is a huge issue U.S.A. needs to deal with that NO ONE ever talks about, OVERPOPULATION. China is doing something about their over population, why can't we? why do we allow people who are on welfare to produce multiple offspring and create an even larger never-ending cycle of welfare recipiants. We need to sterilize any one who goes on government living assistance, if they can't make it on thier own they shouldn't be breeding
I just cast my vote yesterday for the Honorable Chuck Baldwin, someone that we can trust to uphold the Constitution of the United States. You can't say that about Republicans or Democrats anymore.
Democrats and Republicans in Congress have shirked their duties, as outlined in the Constitution, to declare war, since WWII. They allow the President to make such decisions, powers that are not granted to him by the Constitution, because they don't want to be held responsible for the consequences.
Of course they realize that getting 270 electoral votes is an unrealistic goal. They simply want to stir things up and promote the rise of third parties.
oh my god, that guy being the presenter is a well known photographer of wars (chris hedges) and ralph nader, but who's the third guy? well I'll know when this debate's over :D

You are a fucking waste of the internet, now fuck off.
lihuizhan 2 years ago
Nader is a moron. He wants government to be in control of everything and anything. Also on the note of seatbelts, air bags, and nutrition information. Well all of those are wonderful things, but they are the consumer responsibility. I feel that government should have no rules on this. If they give false information than they should be sued, but overall it's the consumers responsibility to tell what's good for them. Like when you eat you should as a individual find out what's in it.
cpblackangel88 2 years ago
Also he's for gun control and single payer healthcare. That's not freedom it's just taking away from the private sector so you can reward the lazy in society and hurt the system as a whole.
cpblackangel88 2 years ago
From Nader's website Part 1:
Some unfairly paint the Nader/Gonzalez candidacy as being for big government. Nothing could be more untrue.
Nader/Gonzalez supports a government of the people, by the people, for the people. We agree with Congressman Paul that government is rife with waste and corporate demands, and needs to be scaled back in many areas — most of all the bloated, wasteful US military budget, which is half of the governments total operating budget.
jessc1979 2 years ago
From Nader's website Part 2:
We are also against big government doling out hundreds of billions in corporate welfare, subsidies, and bailouts to companies.
We support abolishing income tax on the first $50,000 of income to be made up with a fraction of a percent Wall Street speculation tax, especially on derivatives.
jessc1979 2 years ago
Well I agree with him on getting rid of corporate welfare, but he still want's big government. I'm for getting rid of big government department, entitlements, and reasonable military cuts. The only thing I want to increase is border security.
cpblackangel88 2 years ago
How big is big?
Nader's government would be smaller than it is now wouldn't it?
jessc1979 2 years ago
Well I don't call government run single payer healthcare small. And he pretty much wants government to have more power in almost every industry. He'll make military smaller and he'll give more personal freedoms by eliminating the Patriot Act and legalizing drugs. I support that and when it comes to the military I support getting rid of the 700 bases, cutting foreign aid,and getting rid of a lot of the waste there. Yet he's still for big government at least on the economy.
cpblackangel88 2 years ago
I definitely will agree that what Nader wants in terms of regulations and healthcare will make his government bigger than Baldwin's or Ron Paul's, but I don't that makes it 'big'. More like small-to-medium.
Single-payer healthcare still means private delivery and free choice.
To my knowledge, all he wants in terms of industry is more regulation for the fat-cats, not take-over or bailouts. He definitely believes in small businesses. That doesn't make it 'big government' does it? :)
jessc1979 2 years ago 2
Well I'm for government having no involvement in healthcare and industry. I feel that the federal government should only be involved in trade, military, immigration, and law.
cpblackangel88 2 years ago
How about I end by agreeing with you that that would be an ideal end goal? I happen to think government *can* be solution to problems (not corporate government) and that single-payer healthcare can be a intermediate step to what they have in Switzerland.
I understand, of course, that to conservatives and libertarians, I may sound like I'm speaking a contradiction.
jessc1979 2 years ago
Well I'm just strongly opposed to any form of big government.
cpblackangel88 2 years ago
@cpblackangel88 I never quite understand what is so inherently wrong with government if you compare it to private power. I mean the biggest difference seems to me to be that a corporation is a real tyranny (top-down structure) while government is atleast in principle democratic(not in practice). So what is so bad about government and why is the private sector better in this respect?
Cosbibi 1 year ago 2
The private sector can only be bad if government allows them to be trough restrictions on trade and subsides.
cpblackangel88 1 year ago
@cpblackangel88 So a system based on self-interested search for profits is in fact awesome if only the government didn't intervene? To just illustrate why this is wrong in my opinion, suppose the government privatizes water(which they do in the developing world). What happens is that water gets fixed at a certain price that's most profitable for the private sector. That might just mean that 20% of the population can't afford it. Now that doesn't seem to me like a very ethical thing to do...
Cosbibi 1 year ago
What's more, certain choices are just not offered by the market because of problems of scale. So the market offers me the choice between a honda and a toyota but I don't get to choose to take the subway(because that's a democratic decision that requires substantial funds). Also ithe private sector just can't sustain itself. To illustrate, 50% of all the research is paid for by the government(most high-tech research actually), because it's too risky a venture to undertake for the private sector.
Cosbibi 1 year ago
both of these men are more appealing politically than either of these two major parties, 100 fold.
pisces196949 2 years ago
We need to let these guys participate in real debates. Let the people receive another option. It should be that any candidate who's willing to pay enough can get on the debate floor. This makes it fair. Competition is good in both business and politics. And there's not enough competition in politics. Think about it if they lose they'll just win 4 or 8 years later. And it's either you support one thing or the other you can't have a third opinion on what to do about the economy or foreign policy.
cpblackangel88 2 years ago
Haha, third party, yeah, good luck, not a chance, lolz. It's good that they tried though..!!
UnionKid15 2 years ago
O and by the way the stock market concerns during 1987, 2001, and 2008 we're all caused BECAUSE of deregulation. From the 1940s to 1986 not one time did the stock market have a day that was worse then on black monday in 1987.
ptom4587 2 years ago
First, one thing you need to learn is to disagree agreeably. No need to swear just because we have a difference of opinion, its youtube not cable news trash. If anything deregulation does the opposite of what you just said, it makes it so the rich get richer in this case big business. If corporations paid the same taxation as they did 40 years ago the country would have an extra $250 billion dollars in the treasury.
ptom4587 2 years ago
Look many of the reasons why FDA is terrible today is because of deregulation. Ever since the Reagan Admin, programs such as this have been trimmed of the right people performing health and safety checks and being replaced by those who are hired by pharmaceutical companies so that their drug is pushed forward. Deregulation in certain areas does more harm than good, remember Nutrition Facts, Lead Shields at the Dentist, Seatbelts, Crash Testing, and Airline Renumerations are because of Nader
ptom4587 2 years ago
Ralph Nader did more with his first book Unsafe at Any Speed, then Ron Paul has done in his whole tenure as a congressman. I'm personally sick of Libertarians who want deregulation of everything, if we had a Libertarian instead of Teddy Roosevelt in office we would not have an FDA. I want hear one Libertarian come out and speak against why we shouldnt have more people in the FDA, because they have been reduced from 50,000 employees making quality checks to less then 10,000.
ptom4587 2 years ago
This debate is still relevant today and will be for some years to come.
It's a good demonstration of a "real" debate about "real" issues and "real" solutions that these two people believe in their positions and would really carry out them out.
One of the best parts, these two debaters can really starkly disagree without flinching about an issue and hold different solutions. No other politician in the main stream media could be in this debate without losing their fallacious popularity.
junk11111111 2 years ago 2
I was just thinking that, unlike the "major party" debates which are useless now, this debate is still relevant to modern politics. And Hedges gets a lot of hate but he kept this debate a real discussion.

If the Republican Party nominated a real conservative they would have otten those votes and would have likely swayed some more independent voters.

Yeah, but all the higher-ups in the republican party are neo-conservatives and are against the very values of conservatism. You see these things in his actions.
JessicaSideways 3 years ago
McCain had to earn his votes. In a Democratic-Republic no one is entitled to anyone's vote. If McCain wanted Barr and Baldwin's votes, he'd have to prove why he's better than them (or better yet, he'd be man up and be a real conservative).

baseballreg123 3 years ago
What would it take to open the debates and mandate instant run-off elections? Without debate participation, 3rd parties are toast. Without instant run-off elections voters fear 2 party spoilage. Entrenched political and corporate power does not benefit from such enhancements and would only lose the duopolistic power they have so carefully engineered by forming the bi-partisan CPD corporation, with its 15% polling requirement and by inciting fear with their spoiler accusations in '00.

of all the issues politicians and partys talk about, i think there is a huge issue U.S.A. needs to deal with that NO ONE ever talks about, OVERPOPULATION. China is doing something about their over population, why can't we? why do we allow people who are on welfare to produce multiple offspring and create an even larger never-ending cycle of welfare recipiants. Democrats and Republicans in Congress have shirked their duties, as outlined in the Constitution, to declare war, since WWII. They allow the President to make such decisions, powers that are not granted to him by the Constitution, because they don't want to be held responsible for the consequences.
