I feel sorry for Robert Plant having to follow this act -- really, I dont care who you are, Jimi himself would have just come out after this show and said.... "Really folks, its not gunna get much better than that, might as well call it a night" -- forever hard-core stevie....
PLant must have played more than one show because I was there for the show and vividly remember SRV opening. I had never heard of of him before and he blew me away. I also remember he DID play VooDoo Child as his encore. I went out soon after the show and bought a cassette of Texas Flood.
Ok when I see video footage shot in the crowd at an old concert like this..and by old I mean before cell phones....and knowing the size of video cameras back then...how they hell did they sneak in a camera to get this footage?
@drdanr You're guess is as good as mine! But seeing as this video is shot up in what looks like the nose bleeds, maybe it was easier back in the day to sneak something in if you were in the cheap seats. It seems like a lousy guess, but it's the only one I can think of haha
@csi2448 Man who knows...back in 1988 Video cams were not sneak innable! It would have been like sneaking a new born baby in. I'd love to know how this was done just out of curiosity
@pastyourhorizon yes i was and back to back nights actually ...i was lucky to see Stevie Ray 5 times ..i even paid my respects and visited his grave a few months after he died....so sad and a great loss to music....peace...
@jonno63 A lot of Stevie's concerts are heavily debated. But I got this show from a person who was at this show, so we can safely say that Stevie played here
Priceless! What I loved most about Stevie Ray was that even with his greatness, he was so humble and respectful!! Thanks for posting!! Not a day goes by that I don't miss him!!!
a shame to whom? stevie became irate to learn that he was following bb king one night in texas .there is a heirarchy of respect among great musicians. stevie was a humble , small man in stature with a heart the size of texas. as in any profession you must always be willing to listen to achieve greatness.. his story reminds me of "magic gloves" in the world according to garp. unfamilliar? let me know. i will clue you in. and god bless you jimmy. we only think to feel your pain
@ibazumbas I assume you meant to reply to steira21. But yeah, I totally agree with you. I remember that story about B.B. King, and Stevie was like that with everyone. Stevie was one of a kind, that includes his playing, his personality, and the size of his heart, which was bigger than the tremendous sound that came out of his guitar!!
@steira21 yeah I get what your saying, but it is Robert Plant, and of course because of what he did with Zeppelin he was the headliner. But as I said in the description he got plenty of boos when he came out since Stevie's set was cut short!
When Stevie got sober he didn't play this tune that much and I mean through the end of 1986 and whole 1987, but by 1988 he started to play it very often on shows and than 1989 and 1990 of course. From 1988 till 1990 he played Texas Flood very often.
@csi2448 i have seen a youtube video of his opening song from this show that was filmed professionally... do u think there exist some lost footage from this amazing show
@chalftits I know the one you're thinking of. But I'm 99% sure that it's from a different show. I thought it was the same show at first too, but I don't think it is
@chalftits I've seen a show or two out there where Stevie plays that song, but no I unfortunately don't have that song in my possession. If I do stumble upon it, you'll be the first to know!!
I WAS AT THIS SHOW! 2nd row center I got this booted on audio. He blew the doors off of Plant.

@ManardGCrebs Unfortunately Eddie loves the spotlight but when it isn't on him it's when his life sucks and falls apart.

Excellent! Stevie didn't play this tune as much this late in his career. Rare for the date! Interesting to hear a new version. Thanks for posting!

Yeah, his last few years, especially 89 and 90 he either played Texas Flood or The Things (That) I Used To Do practically every show!
