Derren takes in a breath as he is about to 'punch', therefore the behind one is part sound of movement, and he punches after his breath. It's suggestion. Try pretend punching someone but pull short the punch, they will crumple up too!
@IInContext Oh, you only need an elementary book on logic and a few books on the mathematical and experimental proofs of the laws of physics, nothing in physics or any other natural science on that matter has been discovered which could be anything to do with the supernatural, I can't prove that unicorns don't exist but you don't believe in unicorns do you just because there's no evidence against them? People automatically think in an A therefore B pattern, which means if someone is given the suggestion that alcohol makes you fly and they then see someone flying after they have drunk the alcohol, their first thought will be that alcohol makes you fly because the suggestion is already in your mind. The same is for chi.
Fraud? It's an entertainment show, he'll still set things up. It would just spoil it if you knew for sure that he did, a bit like if he showed the people that it didn't work on. He's still a magician (illusionist) dispite what his fanboys say, he just doesn't openly call it magic, instead it's a trick of the mind, which is still magic. I've nothing against him, just his naive fans - not aiming that towards you - I just don't find him that entertaining since it's like David Blaine 2.0.
@Lolp821 ... Derren Brown is a very clever man and a great entertainer. And in many ways is nothing more then a magician but with a twist... his very good at anticapating people's reactions, decisions and is very manipulative. In some cases its only because he makes 'you' the viewer relate what he is saying/doing to you, your circumstances, situation, etc. But an amazing showman indeed!

It's just that quite a few of his fans get all annoyed when you say he's a Magician, when he is, he just doesn't promote it as traditional Magic. A friend of mine can't hear anything bad against him, he's a fanboy and a half of him. His stuff only works on select people, but It annoys me that his fans treat him like some god who makes no mistakes.

@menegis its all to do with their expectations and trickery. actually if u believe someone can hypnotise u its so much easier for them to do it. the mind is a powerful thing and there is definately no supernatural crap around ^^ read his book, its a good insight
