@patthespark Thanks for the observation. I've noticed obelisk-like and othe phallic structures are often placed near domes or tunnels etc, representing the male and female genitalia. This is sexual symbolism.
"However grand this looks, it's not actually old money and the duke himself is not old money. The title of duke of Marlborough didn't exict until the coronation of King William III"! I mean, if this isn't (already) old (money), what then IS old? John Churchill, 1st duke of Marlborough and prince of Mindelheim lived from 26th of May 1650 to 16th of June 1722! Those were the late 17th and beginning 18th century! Is that NEW money? But we're in Europe, I reckon, and "old" is older around here...;-)
@Rotebuehl1 Slightly! I think my point was that he himself didn't come from classic European aristocracy. However he and his family married into it fast enough! His wife's family I think go back to King James II. Losers at the "Battle" of the Boyne. Their descendents include Winston Churchill and Princess Diana.
@benthejrporter After having posted my comment, I thought for a second, to remove it again! But then I decided to let it stay! Surely, in those says, the duke was a "mere" parvenu, socially speaking! But, then again that's Britain! Britain ennobles her best men! The same, later on, with the duke of Wellington, who was, originally, a lesser noble from Ireland, though considered an offspring of a prominent hiberno-norman and Old English family, but really "nothing special"! Thanks and cheers ;-)
@Rotebuehl1 OK, RB. This is not the first time they've given nobility to one of their "Heroes". Blenheim Palace is virtually a mausoleum to the "glory" of Churchill's victory over the Spanish in the ar.
@slaxxxer Hi, Slaxxx. BB is "Ustane" on the blog. She's my best buddy, soul mate and research assistant... and on top of that she cooks a wicked stir-fry! :-)
@benthejrporter Awesome stuff pal! - heard you mention the name a few times and always meant to ask! - loved the ~ Blenheim vids by the way! take it easy friend!
