There is an actually program out called PS3 MEDIA Server which is real dope makes thinks real easy including transcoding check it out on google.

Considering most of the files that you are probably download via the web etc windows media has mad issues handling all those types of file formats like avi etc. It uses up a lot of cpu usage. If you multi-task on your computer you pretty much cant on with windows media player. you can but it's painfully slow and sometimes on responsive.

this sharing involves uploading the media to your ps3, my question is if it's counted with your downloadlimit because 1 movie is worth of 10 gb of uploading and i can only download 75gb a month and since downloading and uploading are counted together 75 gb isn't that much and i want to make sure i won't exceed my downloadlimit with this. so i need to make sure it's working on the local network and not on the internet so if you pull out your internet it should still work but it isn't working here

@whiteman262 these transfers are using your Local Area Network and aren't involving your internetbandwith , so the answer is = no it won't make ur download/upload go trough the roof. It has'nt got anything to do with internet.

I'm having problems with this set up now and not sure why. My XP PC was recognized and then randomly it wasn't any more. I'm new to Media Sharing with XP since Win 7 makes it so easy. Anyone seen this issue. I re-did all the setup steps to share and still nothing. It sees my laptop but not my PC. its crazy, please message me if you have any ideas

I have vista and windows worked for a while then for some reason buffered up. I now use vuze which kicks ass any day download torrents then vuze automaticaly streams to ps3. Been using over 1 year and no problems

Hey bro, I have Windows Media encoder so I just used the UPnP setting in there. After doing that I figured it wasn't what I wanted so instead I wrote my own server in C#. Nice video though. Also, I did get it to work in Vista. Also, you do use iTunes too. VLC is what I used prior to everything else. Good video though. :)

Ok I have my PS3 setup to use the home wifi. And connect to my PC windows media player share through WIFI. But there is quite a long delay for songs and movies to play as the WIFI connection to the PC is only 54mbs. So I connected a lan cable between the ps3 and pc so it would be more instant but the PS3 isnt finding a connection. Can you not run a wired and wireless netowrk together simultaneously on the ps3? As I want to use the wifi for internet but lan cable for media streaming.

i dont think it will work straight like that. I used my orignal xbox as a media centre and it wouldnt work with 2 networks simultaneously. If you plug your ps3 via lan cable into your router and your pc by cable into your router that should make it stream faster.

Hey Sand-Man, on the part of this video about the Vista and videos not working, there may be a way. If it is anything like Windows 7 you could try to republish the videos in MovieMaker to get them to work. That is what I did for Windows 7. If that still does not work, like I had two so far that did not, I was able to Fraps the videos while playing them on the PC and republishing the Fraps files in MovieMaker to get them to work on the PS3. It may be worth a try if you have not already.

This seams pretty poinless and an undeaded program. I put everything from my windows media player 11 on a usb drive and did a little thing called copy and paste, it took like 20 minutes to get all my music and photos, and like 2 hours to get all my videos, without having to have another application taking up computer space.

3. Ways to tag videos so you don't have to sift through miles of videos

4. Remind people to look in the right group on the PS3 (look for music under music even though there may be a music folder in the video group)

Actually, DXMuxer is way better. Keeps quality of MKV. I tried the Xp server but quality was so crap.... hehe.
