The melody is reminiscent of the Troggs' "Love Is All Around" (had to really search my poor brain's dusty memory banks to make the connection). Lovely...I don't mind the breathiness and strings at all. Great Canadian song.
I lived in southern Manitoba for three years when I was a kid. All my memories of the place are good. Whenever I hear this song it reminds me of the good times I had there. Thank you Five Bells.
How this song bring back memory of Winnipeg where I first heard in song way back in 1968. Thank you very much for posting this song. I have been wanting to hear this song this original version for a long time.
I'm from the States but I absolutely love this song. I used to travel from Ohio to Buffalo,NY and would pick up AM 740 out of Toronto . First heard in 2003 and got lucky and found a 45 of it. Thanks for the song!!
Rick wrote a beautiful song, but I have to admit I thought this version was absolutely horrible. What was with all the breathy, cutesy-pie voices and overdone strings??? Even when it was brought out it was overdone. An acoustic version with Rick singing it was by far better.
"The Bells were a Canadian rock band from Montreal that had two hit singles in the early 1970s. Featuring South African natives Anne and Jackie Ralph as well as Cliff Edwards, Doug Gravelle and Gordie McLeod, the group started in 1965 as The Five Bells."
I worked for a large Canadian concert promoter in the 80's and 90's and did a Maritime tour with Red Rider in 1984. Their tour bus driver was the composer of this song - Rick Neufeld!
I know that song from a collection called "Povos e Países" (People and Countries" edited during the 70"s.Every week we bought the magazine and the record about the country about that week.I love that song from Canada, but I know another version.
I lived in Winnipeg in the late 60s/early 70s, and remember this song. It's widely but wrongly believed to be the official song of Manitoba's Centennial as a province in 1970; that fell to another song that sank without a trace.
Hey I'm from Winnipeg, been in Montreal since 2002, and I remember hearing this on CKRC back in the late 60s. And I even have the LP somewhere - Dimensions by the Five Bells.

PapNeuf is magic. Due this tune, I am a life long Tobaphile.
My pal from Manny told me that his local TV or radio station
started every morning broadcast with this tune. Lucky sod.

Are the Five Bells and the Bells exactly the same group? How do I get this really cool tune on compact disc? Thank You for posting!
