@wuzlump You obviously don't know what youre talking about. PS3 titles do sell. inFAMOUS series, GT series, Uncharted series, FF series and many more series say hi. You should do your homework.
@germanviking86: True. The AAA game industry desperately needs killer apps to replace game engines and middleware. But even it they magically appeared today, nothing would change. Because it's the people who currently run the industry who are the big obstacle in the path of growth and innovation. While I have zero interest in playing social, mobile or casual games, if their continued success results EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc... collapsing then I'm all for it.
All these people thinking they understand what they are talking about. Then they go out and ruin games. Example. Supcom 2 following Supcom FA. Wake up people. Play want you want. Not what is given to you.Perhaps all the good games have already been made and all these game designers need new jobs.
Good, but way too fast. SLOW DOWN YOUR EDITING!!! what is the point of flying through all the content without having time to process it. The show is good but the artificial 10min time limit is holding it back. Slow down and i reckon you might have a good show on your hands!!!
addendum - user-created content will be kin: new players will demand way more control & worlds like Second Life [if they get lag under control] are sitting on a gold mine in terms of virtual goods & customization options!
I wish I could create a title, the best are created by average gamers in touch with reality and simply desire to make something to have fun.
Not a businessman who's ruin a title with a business model, not a "casual gamer" who'll make something painfully shallow, not an artist who cares more about looks than playing.
Making a title exclusive is missing tons of sales, but sloppy porting makes a bad title.
Please refrain from using these stupid video-effects (changing from b&w to color and vice versa). This is so '90s and doesn't look cool at all. If you want to make a serious and earnest show don't use silly effects like these.
Otherwise: great show! I'm looking forward to more.
As for the issue of subscription fees after the initial charge, I think that making and selling DLC is a perfectly fair business model; the fans won't boycott the game companies for being overly greedy, and the companies will make money by offering substantial updates for the consumers.
@uadfa You're arguing that the people who spend lots of money on games are the issue for the industry, but if people didn't buy the big budget games there would be a stagnation; a plateau of sales due to market saturation that caused the crash of 1984. Games making large amounts of money through sales are well marketed and appeal to huge audiences. Just because a company gets it right for a large number of people, doesn't make them bad- it shows that they've got the right idea.
Just as I expected. Another boring video about video games. I don't doubt the journalistic talent of that Scott guy but I'm sorry but these dudes are not the most talented in video games industries. Bring someone from Nintendo or any big Japanese name.
@rpmasse01 fuck off and google lorne lanning, or oddworld, if you think that guy doesnt have talent you need to sort your weired head out and your views
lol the video game industry has grown this generation. Crash? wut crash? There is more money flowing through the industry now more then ever. The only thing is, it's Nintendo that is raking it in. Current industry w/ Nintendo = industry has grown. Current industry w/o Nintendo = industry has shrunk. Funny how this video doesn't mentioned them at all. They learned to adapt, these guys haven't, and now they're whining about it.
@meeplemeeple What industry are you talking about exactly? My Sisters playing Just Dance with my mom? If that's the industry you're talking about then absolutely its grown. Why do you think Microsoft and Sony are making "wii-like" add ons to their "hardcore" systems? Because the industry for the core gamers is at a point where developers are losing money. Core gamers dont give a shit about Nintendo and vice versa and thats the cold truth. Do ANY core gamers own Wii's? No, they sold them back.
I'm a "core" gamer. Now I feel dirty for describing myself as such because the words "core" and "casual" are freaking stupid. I don't have a 360 or a PS3, because anything they can offer has been done and done better on my PC. A wii, however, offers something unique and that's why I have one. There are plenty of these "core" games as you describe on the Wii, just gotta spend the time to shift through the trash. Also, I was refering the video game industry as a whole, just like the video.
@meeplemeeple I agree; words like "hardcore" are outdated and contrived. Personally, I prefer the term "avid," meaning that I am in tune with playing games of all types, as well as the industry itself (plus, I am a game design student). You also make a good point about the Wii being the system that offers the most unique experiences, though there are still exclusives on the Xbox 360 and PS3 that aren't on the PC (hence the reason I have an Xbox 360).
Yet another poorly thought out piece about the state of gaming in general. How many of these do we need? Gaming media and the industry in general just needs to own up admit none of you have the first clue what's going on in this industry. Not a single mention of Nintendo? Very interesting. To make matters worse, the people you DID dig up are the clueless dinosaurs of this industry. I can't wait til this industry gets the enema it so richly needs and deserves.
