I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Charlie Barnett on radio while in my teens. He was a very nice guy I'm happy to report and had some wonderful stories to share. He's the fellow playing tenor sax here. Thanks for sharing this historic moment in big band history.
Hi - my name is Von Babasin. That's my father, legendary jazz bassist, Harry Babasin, in this film clip. He was Benny Goodman's bassist at that time. I am sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts to produce a documentary about my father called, Harry Babasin's Jazz In Hollywood. Very nice of you to post this...
Isn't it amazing that for years this film appeared on broadcast television without this number? Even though it is a film called "A Song Is Born" (a remake of the non-musical "The Professor and the Showgirl") making it obvious that this was the 'big number' of the movie... they cut the song from the tv print. I haven't watched network tv for so long I couldn't say for sure, but if they still air the film, I bet they still run that same cut print. It's a real treat to see it. Thanks for posting.
the classics never die, and still hold number one in my book. I am in my 30's and i say with honesty in my heart that i am only sorry i was born to late to enjoy this music growing up. But thanks to my grandparents and the older generation of my family they introduced this type of music into my life.
i do listen to the music of today and i do enjoy the movies as well Nothing compares to the classics and music of yesterday.
if only movies and music like this were mainstream again
Sadly this is one of the only old songs i have seen with 0 dislikes.

The music theme cames from Dvorak "New World Symphony". Delicious jazz music. The gold generation of jazz.
