How do you make the Nikon D7000 auto focus and stay focused on a subject on movie mode with out touching any buttons while recording? I need it to stay focused on me with out me checking if it is focused on me and not have another person record me while I need it to record me.
@hemchandran777 both are good, d7000 has slightly better image quality and canon has speed. If you shoot action or sports the canon may be best and if you shoot low light the d7000 may be better.
My parents bought me the d7000 about 4 days ago. All I can say for this camera has already been said by millions - great performance, really fast, and extremely lightweight.
I've bought a 50mm f1.8D to start with the camera, because It's a great lens, razor sharp, and super cheap. It all costed me about 1200 euros.
I highly recommend this camera to everybody, you won't regret a thing! So happy to have it as my first DSLR!
@justinlow1990 also there is a difference on what you can show on the frame. 35mm is taking more space around, and with 50 you have to stand back. I used 35mm and 50mm on my d7000. Can't say which one I like better:D
You are wrong about all magnesium alloy body, it's in fact just a top plate. Also for those that say they wouldn't upgrade to this from their D90, you clearly haven't used both. This is sooooo much better than te D90 and better even than the D300. It's only downside is that it does tend to overexpose slightly but that's it. I have a fair few cameras, some notably more expensive than this but fir what this is priced at, you won't get better!!!
I have both..my D300 is still my first camera to pickup..I shoot concerts in low light at 1250-1600.. The noise issue does not seem to be a problem to me..it still produces acceptable photographs.. Also with the battery grip and ight batteries the frame/sec rate is much faster..however , loving the D7000. I bought it as a 2 nd backup when I shoot and also to have another Lens at my fingertips. Usually70-200 on the D300 & either 35mm or 50mm 1.8's on the D7000. Battery grip is coming next..it is
The thing that is bothering me the most is the decision between the D300S and the D7000. Connor, you've mentioned that you've owned the D300 which has the same AF system as the 300S. I'm upgrading from the D90 because of the AF upgrade more than for any other reason. I shoot landscapes so I'd like the 100 ISO on the D7000 as well. I've heard tons of conflicting opinions on whether the D7000's AF is as good as the D300's or not. In good light, there'd be little difference between my D90 and
@zirtico I have had the D7000 since last november and I have also used the D200 & D300 the 200 was better built than the 300 and the 300 is more robust than the D7000 but for general use the D7000 is more than tough enough and feels very rugged, image wise I have stuck with the 7000 as IMO it has more latitude in the images which gives more control when post processing it also has the best low light ability by far and the af is quicker and more on the mark all round IMO the D7K is the best DX
Just noticed the combo you have there when doing this fantastic review! The 14-24mm & Nikon D7000. I'm hoping to buy the 14-24mm soon for the D7000, for awhile as I'm upgrading to FX later when spare funds allow me to purchase freely. Would you find 14-24mm on the D7000 wide? (not too ultra-/ultra-wide)
@xsimplyjosh I wouldnt get a 14-24mm for a dx camera, the tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is a better choice just because it is so much lighter, takes filters and doesnt cost a fortune.
I just bought that camera. Am going through the mannual. When in mode "P" Progammed Auto. I cannot change the aperture settings. I know it's in the "flexiable program" is in effect because i can see the P*. Page 68 of the manual.
@prasadroh In Program mode P, the shutter speed AND the aperture will change simultaneously together. (i.e. decrease the length of shutter speed = increase in aperture size/decrease in f-stop number) and vice versa.
If you want to have better control and change ONE setting like the aperture OR shutter only, you have to use A-priority (A) [or S-priority (S)] mode. Then you can adjust the aperture on the main dial (back of the body)
I have had the d90 for a few years now and just purchased the d7000 a couple of months ago. I totally agree with you. Simply the best camera I have ever owned. It is a semi professional camera dream. I do Weddings, Sports and Nature shoots, the d7000 does it all.
@t045t2346 You are completely wrong. The D7000 is heavier mainly due to the magnesium alloy construction on the top & rear parts, the D90 lacks magnesium construction.
Plus on a sidenote from the Nikon specs, D7000 = 780g body only w/ battery. D90 = 710g
Great review, because of this, and several other reviews on the net, I have just bought a D7000, this will be my first Digital Camera. But many years ago before my kids came along I was an avid film photographer doing much paid freelance work for fishing, camping and 4x4 magazines. I am so glad to be back into it and your vids have helped a great deal. Cheers!
So far the only problems i see are the lack of histogram and limited bracketing for HDR. Do you think a promote system would help with adding bracketing from say 3 to 5 or 7steps? How could i deal with bracketing with the lack of a histogram? I did order the Nikon 35mm 1.8G lens and am on the fence about this camera? I do have the money and pretty sure i will order it.
It actually does have a focus type change button. It's actually integrated into the Auto/Manual focus switch on the front of the body. You just have to press it and toggle the wheels

When you say the D7000 is just as robust as the D300s, this is not true. Only the top and bottom of the D7000 is magnesium alloy, where as the the whole of the D300s body is magnesium alloy.
@stubob19 you wont notice the difference, d7000 construction is plenty good for anyone, only those photographer who shoot in the rain with the camera unprotected would even notice a difference if any. The d300s might survive a longer drop but if you know how to take care of your camera that shouldnt happen.
@lazarra101 the tokina 11-16mm is a great architecture lens. The 28-300mm is a great lens that cover a huge range. Those lenses would go pretty well together.

@evolutioner okay, but how do you know though..cause i wanted to know this and on dpreview(dot)com they have an extensive review and they said it was all magnesium alloy.
As usual, sites like dpreview always favour big brands like canon and nikon, oh well, they got paid anyways.
they'd rather confuse the readers rather than giving full and accurate information.
If u bother to google, or at least go to nikon's official website, it's actually stated in the features and specifications, the magnesium alloy portion is only the top and rear cover, it's not full body as claimed by you know who.

I really don't get why you differentiate the D300 and d300s in image quality, they both are very close, both use the same Sony sensor (also used in alpha a700) . Hello fella, Firstly i would like to say i think you vids are great very informing.
ok i need your help, I have a D90 and need to upgrade i would like to say im a semi pro but with a small budget. I would like a D700 But don't we all. lol. i have a few DX lenses so upgrading to FX will be expensive i mainly shoot Weddings and Portraiture, i use studio lights but for the weddings i use low light and as you know the D90 is a bit poor, What camera would you recommend for me D300s or D7000? Thanks.
Need your expert opinion Connor!? I am thinking of purchasing the 14-24mm for my D7000 would you recommend it? If not, which lense would you recommend that I get to do similar job? Thanks in advance for your kind advice....
hey Connor! Your videows are great!! What I like the most is that you are modest and don't disqualify others. Many people cannot afford the best equipment. Of course, stay objective because people want to hear the truth, as unbiased as possible. Stay that way and you will be very successfull. I bought the Blue Crane videos, and I think yours are better!! You should do instructional videos, especially for landscaping. Don't get discouraged by some negative comments. Some people are very jelaous
@BIGredsArtWORLD19 they are completely different classes. d7000 is dx and d700 is fx. For most the d7000 is plenty good, especially if you are just getting into photography.
I've had 3 Nikons: F2Afilm, D200 & D300 DSLRs, I just received my D7000 & it is the best, so far pictures are excellent, & features, 2 card slots, I feel it it[ is teh best
@ezrahumane I am not sure what it is. you can check out dpreview.com they might have the link. The d7000 I used didn't have that problem and I know others who don't have that problem. I wouldn't worry about it personally.
Hey, D7000 does have the option of changing the auto focus from full area/dynamic to single focal point on the outside body. If you look at the bottom left side of the camera you'll see the AF and M on the body. You can actually press that button and then move your aperture/shutter dial to mess with the settings. Great review by the way.
I checked out your website. I think you have some amazing pictures worth purchasing. Keep up the great work buddy.
@jackeatelement well the d7000 is the best, but the d3100 is an awesome camera for the first time dlsr buyer. the d3100s a better choice than the d90 for first time users by far.
hi im planning on getting my first DSLR camera in march and i was planning on getting THe D90, is it really worth the wait and money for the D7000?!?!?!
You mentione something about the auto focus modes, that the camera doesn't have a button? I believe that button you are looking for us on the bottom part of the camera close the the lens. Tap it and it will change your focus points.
@Swackhammer1 .. what are you talking about.. i said americans say it like "nyekon", you should pronounce it the way it's spelt - "nikon" or if you want to get technical "nih-kon"
@tomfewchuk The problem here is that you're not specifying the pronunciation of the 'i' in Nikon. That's usually where the confusion is. Nikon is a Japanese company and the 'i' is pronounced like 'ee' in this case.
@Recon9143 yea, you see it doesn't matter how pro you are, you can still say something wrong, especially if you're american in this case. i've listened to heaps of other nikon pros say it wrong too and it's just irritating
go to wikipedia, type in "nikon" and click listen on the first line. it comes from japan, so it should be pronounced like it originally was - nikon
@tomfewchuk in almost every nikon video ive seen lately theres always some douche bag telling people how its pronounced and they always got some different way. SAY IT HOWEVER THE FUK YOU WANT AND DONT TRY TO CORRECT ANYONE ELSE. wether its nigh-kon, knee-kon, -Nikk-con
The only thing you really need a Prime High End Lens!
I am coming from a Rebel XT and I have the 50 mm f/1.4. I am learning how to use this Nikon D7000. I have not see anything yet that blow me away but a few images using the Kit lens.
You need to invest in some good prime lens. That's it!

Need your expert opinion Connor!? I am thinking of purchasing the 14-24mm for my D7000 would you recommend it? If not, which lense would you recommend that I get to do similar job? Thanks in advance for your kind advice....
Europ4Jesus 11 months ago
@Europ4Jesus I wouldnt get the 14-24mm for a dx camera. The nikon 10-24mm or tokina 12-24mm or tokina 11-16mm is a much better choice.

what is that 14-24mm fx doing on your dx?
niburu2012 11 months ago

@BIGredsArtWORLD19 D7000 and with the money I save buy A GRIP HANDLE.
m109r1800 11 months ago
@BIGredsArtWORLD19 they are completely different classes. d7000 is dx and d700 is fx. For most the d7000 is plenty good, especially if you are just getting into photography.

Do you know the link to download for the hot pixel correction. Im not a video guy but I like to have my cam working to its full potential.
ezrahumane 1 year ago
@ezrahumane I am not sure what it is. you can check out dpreview.com they might have the link. The d7000 I used didn't have that problem and I know others who don't have that problem. I wouldn't worry about it personally.
QQQQcon 1 year ago
Hey, D7000 does have the option of changing the auto focus from full area/dynamic to single focal point on the outside body. If you look at the bottom left side of the camera you'll see the AF and M on the body. You can actually press that button and then move your aperture/shutter dial to mess with the settings. Great review by the way.
I checked out your website. I think you have some amazing pictures worth purchasing. Keep up the great work buddy.

Great review.
'Good for sports - especially children's sports.' Don't really understand why it's better for children's sports than adult sports.

jackeatelement 1 year ago
@jackeatelement well the d7000 is the best, but the d3100 is an awesome camera for the first time dlsr buyer. the d3100s a better choice than the d90 for first time users by far.

hi im planning on getting my first DSLR camera in march and i was planning on getting THe D90, is it really worth the wait and money for the D7000?!?!?!
HuricaneBriii 1 year ago
@HuricaneBriii yes, the d7000 is like the do it all camera. If you dont need speed or good image quality at high iso though the d90 is fine.

Hi, just wanna ask what kind of lens do you used in this video...?
supervenjo 1 year ago
You mentione something about the auto focus modes, that the camera doesn't have a button? I believe that button you are looking for us on the bottom part of the camera close the the lens. Tap it and it will change your focus points.

it's pronounced "nikon" not "nyeeeeeeeekon"..
americans.
tomfewchuk 1 year ago 38
@tomfewchuk I think it would be better to say it's pronounced 'neekon' and not 'naekon'. That might be easier for people to understand.
Swackhammer1 1 year ago
@Swackhammer1 .. what are you talking about.. i said americans say it like "nyekon", you should pronounce it the way it's spelt - "nikon" or if you want to get technical "nih-kon"
tomfewchuk 1 year ago
@tomfewchuk The problem here is that you're not specifying the pronunciation of the 'i' in Nikon. That's usually where the confusion is. Nikon is a Japanese company and the 'i' is pronounced like 'ee' in this case.
Swackhammer1 1 year ago
@tomfewchuk Chase Jarvis says it Nyeeeeeekon and he is a well known pro nikon photographer.. shut up you tool
Recon9143 1 year ago
@Recon9143 yea, you see it doesn't matter how pro you are, you can still say something wrong, especially if you're american in this case. i've listened to heaps of other nikon pros say it wrong too and it's just irritating
go to wikipedia, type in "nikon" and click listen on the first line. it comes from japan, so it should be pronounced like it originally was - nikon
tomfewchuk 1 year ago
@tomfewchuk My question is WHO GIVES A FUCK? People with different accents pronounce things differently.
Thanks for the video, it helped me make my mind and buy a d7000.
doksekko 11 months ago
@tomfewchuk in almost every nikon video ive seen lately theres always some douche bag telling people how its pronounced and they always got some different way. SAY IT HOWEVER THE FUK YOU WANT AND DONT TRY TO CORRECT ANYONE ELSE. wether its nigh-kon, knee-kon, -Nikk-con
andrademeza 10 months ago
this helped me make my mind up about which of the 2 Nikon's (D300s) to go with. One of the better reviews I have seen so far.

That's it!
