This man is god. His voice just enraptures me with this insanely melodic inhuman way that makes every problem i have seem to disappear and every emotion escape at once. Damnit i love this guy.
this man is a mastermind, creative production music, style and genre is never the same, very creative, one of the best vocals i have ever heard, he should be recognized as the King of progressive metal.. i salute you Sir..
The only reason Flyod mesmerized his fans was because he knew how to ultilize effects, and recording techniques. If you break apart the lyrics and body of their work, it's a joke!
Well let see, Pink Flyod does blow, They are the most trumped up pile of rubish ever. The only member worth his salt was the bass player. The only album they ever did that was good was dark side of the moon. Everything else was down hill. Brick in the wall was a kick in the face pile of rubbish. A better name would have been "Pink Pig"
Just got turned on to this, now one of my popular stops! Just got my Agile Intrepid 830 Pro Dual with Cepheus passive pickups, it's sick combined with the Line 6 X3 Pro. Gonna make a patch of this guitar setup next week! Cheers
@TheAwesomeAthiest It would be better if you actually PAID ATTENTION to the damn song.
This is not a song which you expect to be thrown hooks everywhere. You're meant to move with the music, naturally. If you listen to Opeth, you will be BORED OUT OF YOUR GODDAMN MIND. Hell, Tool and Pink Floyd are masters of repetition. You listen to prog, man; you should know about this technique!
@TheAwesomeAthiest Interesting take on the song.....any guess as to what it's saying? "Sex in the neon basement but they don't feel a thing" ...."Gone where feelings go".....
ha, something got lost while writing that comment, I meant the computer speakers, not the headphones, you'll find quite decent headphones for 150 bucks.
In my opinion-it is one of the best constructed compositions of all time, let alone Devy's work(which stretches in the far reaches of space beyond time).
The Girl From Blue City is so fucking epic(6:00-end)
if this doesn´ t suck you in atleast after ten listens you are a mindless stone! This songs is one of the most powerfull pieces of musical landscape/songwriting you can ever imagine! Ocean Machine is one of those few records where i feel insulted if people just say it´ s good! : D
@ImAnExelenteDriver1 you are dead wrong....this song is just garbage...it so goddamn repetitive and the music drowns his voice out BIG time...this is just shitty music....
TRY: iron maiden
TRY: TOOL
TRY: Pink Floyd
TRY: SOAD
those are good bands worth defending...not this trash
@TheAwesomeAthiest Anyone who has the name "theawesomeatheist" is just an unoriginal cunt anyway. All those bands, if you asked them, would credit Devin Townsend as an amazing original force in metal (and other genres) You are a fuck
@TheAwesomeAthiest firstly, pink floyd have disbanded and I never even mentioned them. Secondly i was referring to SOAD and such (thats the comment i responded to) furthermore i never said they were influenced by them, i said they would credit them as original, unlike yourself (as i stated before) with your terrible unoriginal name. I don't need a music history lesson from you thanks.
I have no idea if you're trolling or not, but good fucking god you're dumb as a fucking rock.
Tool and Pink Floyd are MASTERS of repetition and if you were a true Pink Floyd fan you would have recognized the massive build up of sound that is utilized by Pink Floyd in this song and many elements you find in a pink floyd song you'll find in this song as well.
But musically deaf means you're musically deaf, you can't help it I guess.
agreed, it's amazing to me now that there was a point when I just thought this song was "good." I mean, I always liked it but it wasn't the stand out track on OM. Now it blows my mind.
mate,I must say I just couldn't agree more, I've kept squeezing a whole load of shit out of the replay button for a while and each time the hunger for more does not decrease at all. and I've known devin's works for more than 15 years now! incredible range and feeling he has
this man is so diverse, and he can make such heavy awesome songs with ridiculous lyrics and concepts like earth day, and possibly my favorite album ever.. ziltoid the omniscient
its funny cause all of you are talking about how you were 16 and listening to devin and im 16 right now haha there will always be HEVY DEVY fans world wide just like theres pink floyd fans to this day...im one of them haha whoo devy great song love you man
you cant say that you know what any of the songs from devy mean he wants you to find your own meaning in them he doesnt make songs to just say one thing to many people he wants you to find your own connection P.S his new album which just came out " ADDICTED" fucking rocks really industrial but yet awkwardly metal and pop influences really good stuff though really good ahh cant wait for deconstruction and ghost its pure epicness
This song just happily jumped into my Devin Townsend's top 10 list. Oh shit I got to buy ocean machine also. All his solo albums seems to be awesome but i dont know where to start, i only have terria now. Ziltoid gives me shivers but i also get high when listening to this. All hail the flesh of D.Townsend! lol
Ocean machine stands like a milestone in music historie made by a fairly undiscovered genius! The album has it´ s little secred, a kind of key to entrance the passport to this fucking masterpiece! and this is the wall of sound production that has this tricky effect on Biomech that it doesn´ t really hit you at first! then suddently it opens up and you never leave this friggin disc alone again :P and of cause the songwriting is top notch too! AND, devins voice that was devine on Biomech!
Haha, to me, everything after the song "regulator" is just something i have to listen to uninterrupted but I can see your point of view. Funeral has a really tranquil vibe going :)
Back when I discovered this album, this was the first song to strike me like a tree-sized club. I would listen to it daily many times. It actually triggered months of apocalyptic dreams. I usually survived in them as I fled the doom.
Devins inseration from Vai is quite noticeable. Not saying that he didn't make something uniqe. But he has influences none the less. And yes i am a heavy devin fan ! .. Peace
as it was put to me when i was 16 sit down smoke up and shuit up. devin was a real musician when others at the time (korn + limp) just spat image down a mike. this was our generations pink floyd. " if you listend to it in a darkened room it took you places" quote roger waters
don't call him this generations pink floyd. i am not passing judgement on floyd, im just saying devin stands on his own, not in the shadows of others.
devin has such a strong voice its amazing. i bet theres a lot more better singers in metal than in pop music (obviously) but because all of them have to have their voices fixed by machines to make them sounds good. but with stuff like this has much more naturally talented singers. ironic really when pop music is so focused on a persons voice
Good question. It's a ballad about urban loneliness. We don't know who the subject is (Bastard), only that he is looking for respite away from the pain of his life story. He's downtown, alone, impaired, and searching for something/anything that will work to take it away. After one last personally-heroic effort to suppress or run from the pain he passes out. He's high and hidden in the alley corner. Maybe he'll be alive tomorrow. But at least he doesn't hurt so much.
Well, i´ m mostly here for comment when i don´ t got anything else to do! Because of the bad soundquallity it ruins much of the experience for me! But, this song really makes me closer to god? together with most of his other songs. But this song is sad! but it´ s like a little sick! you can actually get addictet to that feeling? i kinda hardcore emotendence i once had! but, i get a addictet to that greatness and emotion it hasO_o
I feel ashamed.. I discovered him just 3 days ago.. I mean I heard about Strapping Young Lad but I didn't like them so much.. But Devin striked me with "Deadhead" and "Earth Day" he's a great versatile artist.. I'm delving!
this is actually my all-time favourite devin townsend song. I can never get enough of this song. But my favourite part of the song is what darkmoon mentioned. I LOVE that part.
this is the work of a genius musician, dev is so overlooked. his music shud be getting used in movies and videogames, it creates such an amazing vibe. dev is GOD!
I heard a couple of tracks fromt his album (Seventh Wave, Life, Regulator) before I bought Biomech: Ocean Machine and I must admit, I was absolutely blow miles away by what it had to offer and this is deffinatly one of the best tracks on the album
Indeed, this song will never get old for me. The things that go through my mind when I listen to this song along with the rest of Ocean Machine is unexplainable. Goddamn The Dev is beyond amazing!!!!
rolf, i knew somebody was gonna say that. I'm sorry from my spelling xD, i meant that my fav part is between 6:30 and 7:48 its very inspirational, i don't have the appropriate words to describe this amazingly awesome song, DEVIN = MUSICAL GOD
Being Bi-Polar allows me to relish the extremes even more! Supreme music.

Probably the best riff I've ever heard.

Indeed, there's like one riff in the song, or just a few more, but it's the ULTIMATE one.

I heard a couple of tracks fromt his album (Seventh Wave, Life, Regulator) before I bought Biomech: Ocean Machine and I must admit, I was absolutely blow miles away by what it had to offer and this is deffinatly one of the best tracks on the album

I slightly prefer "Not one of the better days" to "Girl from the blue city", but the entirety of "Bastard" is still excellent!

Usually I have to be in a certain mood to enjoy a certain style of music.
Devin's music always puts me into whatever mood of sheer pleasure I need to be in to enjoy his music.

Indeed, this song will never get old for me. The things that go through my mind when I listen to this song along with the rest of Ocean Machine is unexplainable. Goddamn The Dev is beyond amazing!!!!
