I hope they come out with another album. I was surprised when I found out they were still making albums and even more surprised that they stuck to their roots and sound pretty much just as good as they ever did.
@lilnasty59 Yeah, you're right. He can write a good song. Tight melody plastered to simple chords which hit the good notes. Not to mention the lyrics...
AWESOME band. This album was such a wonderful experience to me back in what was the mid-90's going into the late-mid-90's. I'm glad this band still puts out albums. Anyone know if they're still in Tennessee?.
@indieclock sadly, that guitar was killed. seriously, John Davis (the singer) said on the message board that the guitar was broken in half during a flight. very sad, but he still has it!
@ghostofchat77 actually Superdrag never really went away, they recorded a few EPs, a handfull of albums, 2 anthology-esque releases, and thousands of live shows before going on hiatus for a few years long enough for the singer, John Davis, to work on albums by Relient K, and Allison Moorer (to name a few) and TWO solo albums. then the original line up got back together in 2007, went on tour, and released a new (amazing) album in 2008. so yeah, music has always been going on...lots actually
this is one of one of my favorite songs of all time! Cheezy you may think, but I pop this tune in on Fridays after a bullshit week! Rock on "Dragsters!" I'm sure you all feel the same! And I hope you do!
I just bought this album at the a god awful bargain price of $.97 at my local music store! But who cares, I love and dig this album!!! It reminds me of my junior high years and remains dear to my heart. Rock on SUPERDRAG!
I remember when this was deemed "Buzzworthy" in 1996 along with Nada Surf and The Butthole Surfers. Sucked Out was my anthem comming out of High School. And this video had little to no play. But it had a moderate subtle run of airplay on M2 or MTV 2 lol. This group iz bad azz.
Love Superdrag (also grew up in Knoxville). This was always one of my favorites. Ripping my old CD onto my computer messed up Slot Machine/Phaser. Oh well. You guys were too far ahead of your time. This would've been HUGE during the 2000-2010 era of indie.
dude i remember when these guys came out and mtv played their video like TWICE. this album is awsome track after track except the obviously contrived "sucked out." i got all their albums and they just go right over most peoples' heads. thanks for the video!
sucked out may have been overplayed, but its far from "contrived", and in my opinion the best song on the album possibly which is why it got the obvious recognition it well deserved.
I'm 29 and I remember bands like this and Sugar, Sunny Day Real Estate, Summercamp...etc. But there's 1 thing I'd like to point out. On the album version of this song he doesn't do the high pitched "WHOOOO," in this song. Weird.
I remember seeing this group when a certain channel use to play music videos. There was something about there sound that was appealing to me. Was cool to find it and see one of the videos after so many year since i heard it in high school. Flashes me back to those years.
This album is a fucking masterpiece !! People will be talking about these guys as underground Power-pop Gods 10 yrs from now like they do about Badfinger today - The first time I heard a Tower Records clerk back in fall of '96 blasting this CD full tilt across the store at 11:30 pm I felt like I was floating above ground - Pure Genious !
What the heck, why music used to be so good in those years... and i'm only 27 what am i supposed to listen to for the next 20 years? Guess stuff like this and my bloody valetine should do ;)
Ah my mum and i were in the car and popped this cd in and she said when i was a baby, when i wouldn't shutup she would put the cd played in my room and play superdrag...and i fell asleep..
it's amazing how bands can have an impact on your life :)
Agreed. Regretfully Yours is pop rock truly at its finest. Plus the album has unspeakable nostalgic value to me (summer of 96.....sigh) I wanna be buried with this album, seriously.
Wow first time seeing this band ......... Damn they are good. Time to buy some CD's . Oh and the video is good as well it could do without the room the band plays in like just have them in the street or something oh well it's not bad i just don't care for that room.
I never got to see this on MTV but rather on a low budget cable access show from Brooklyn who were interviewing Superdrag. After that...never saw it again until Youtube quite some years later.
its odd. back in those days i had a love hate thing with 120 mins. i was very into uk 82 and Oi and hxc and just felt anything on mtv had to be shite one way or the other. now i realize 120 mins played some very good stuff occasionally. side note, superdrag always had the nicest guitars and dressed well.
Great song. I dunno if the vid matches the song too well but its still cool. I wish I wasn't so stupid when I was younger and only listening to metal or I totally would have been behind these guys..
I agree! I had gotten used to the video version before hearing the album version, the lack of WHOoOoO really sticks out. IIRC, I think this version was released as a promotional item/CD.
Just saw the band last night in DC on their 'reunion' tour. Very cool stuff! I imagine John Davis probably regrets the ciggie glorification these days though. ;-)
man, Superdrag brings a lot of memories back.... Hung out with them before a show in D.C. How I wish they were still together but John Davis solo songs are pretty good .
I just heard this band on Pandora, so I thought I'd check out more. It's kinda shoegazey. I like it!
