The Dutch had control over the seven sees between 1588-1713 then the British took control and the ruled the sees between 1713-1918. After that the Americans and Russians came but are now losing grip especially the Russians. But the two naval superpowers "the Dutch and the British" are regaining strength again and I hope they together will take control over the sees again.

Kwalitatief behoren we ook tot de besten. We hebben alleen erg weinig en er wordt alleen maar meer op bezuinigd.

In 1999 hadden we 330 tanks, 16 destroyers/fregatten en 174 gevechtsvliegtuigen. Dat is nu 82 tanks, 6 destroyers/fregatten en 72 gevechtsvliegtuigen.

Om te huilen zo weinig.

Het is tijd dat er weer flink geinvesteerd wordt in veiligheid, met defensie voorop.

De krijgsmacht kun je ook inzetten voor politietaken, andersom niet.

Karel Doorman is sold, we only have the van Amstel and the van Speijk from that class. and they are verry good aswell.. Zuiderkruis is old indeed, but it just got repaired, so it will take a while before it will be replaced.

The walrus submarines will not be replaced before 2020/2025.

7 Prov are no doubt excellent destroyers (NL calls them frigates but international they are considered destroyers) but the best?

je vergeet het doel van de OPV's het is een afkorting voor Oceangoing Patrol Vessel, het doel van deze schepen is om op de zeeën te patrouilleren, het zijn geen oorlogsschepen. En aangezien in deze tijd bijna geen ship-to-ship gevechten meer plaats vinden is het te duur om een oorlogsschip naar bv Somalie te sturen, daar zijn de OPVs beter voor geschikt omdat ze sneller, kleiner, wendbaarder en goedkoper zijn. Daarnaast heb je nu meer aan 2 peleton's mariniers dan aan een kanon.

Het is nogal naief om te zeggen dat iets niet meer voorkomt. Onze krijgsmacht moet op alles voorbereid zijn. Met een fregat kun je patrouilletaken uitvoeren maar ook echte gevechtsmissies uitvoeren.

Het hele nut van een patrouilleboot is snelheid en ze zijn nou juist langzamer dan de fregatten!

Op een Karel Doorman of De Zeven Provinciën klasse kun je net zo goed een peleton Mariniers meenemen. Je hebt zelfs meer ruimte omdat het een groter schip is.

Waarom hebben de OVP's dan een kanon als het niet nodig is?

Mijn kritiek ging niet over het kanon maar over gebrek aan SSMs, SAMSs en ASW wapens.

Mariniers zijn nogal licht bewapend. Het is niet voor niets dat de LCU's geupgrade zijn om zware Landmachtvoertuigen te kunnen vervoeren. De OVPs zijn onnodig. Een Alkmaar klasse mijnenjager of een LCU/LCVP kun je ook inzetten voor patrouilletaken als dat nodig is.

Het is een feit dat ze inferieur zijn aan de schepen die ze vervangen.

Alle soorten gevechtssituaties kunnen voorkomen. Rusland is nog steeds een bedreiging (denk aan de invasie van Georgië) enook China is gevaarlijk (bedreigt o.a. Taiwan). Het is belangrijk dat de krijgsmacht in het zwaarste geweldspectrum kan optreden. Straks hebben we nog maar 4 oorlogschepen.

OVPs vindt ik meer voor de kustwacht dan voor de Marine. Als aanvulling zou het kunnen maar niet als vervanging van fregatten. De Alkmaar klasse kun je ook inzetten voor patrouilletaken.

Eigenlijk zijn het destroyers/jagers. Zo worden ze in ieder geval internationaal geclassificeerd omdat dit beter past bij hun grootte, rol en bewapening. De Nederlandse classificatie is waarschijnlijk politiek omdat een jager als te aanvallend wordt gezien.

'Luchtverdedigings is een beetje misleidend omdat ze compleet multirole zijn en ook makkelijk andere schepen en onderzeeboten kunnen bestrijden. Alleen de eerste 2 schepen zijn echt commandoschepen.
