@TassoumaKono so you are one of these people who say "there is only one way to play an intrument", okay it's your opinion. BUT I think it's an Intrument so I can play it in the way I feel good with it. We talk about music and there is no "right or false" . The Djembe is a wonderful Instrument with big traditions. I'm mot an african and of course I can't play like africans. I would never say that my style is traditional, it's My style and I like it. Peace.
You are right. We can use the same istrument for giving our interpretation and express ourself. I love doind experiments to!!
BUT you have wrote in the title "DJEMBE BEGINNER LESSON" and i think that when you teach Djembe, or an other instrument you must show the real tecnic and not interpretations. Interpretation is not for beginners. This is not a djembe lesson, but a rithm lesson on a djembe.
Doing like this you people that watch this video think something wrong about djembe,
@djembegrobi I'm with you on this one. I play djembe with a small group and when we started out we would only play traditional African rhythms like we had been taught to, but lately we're more beginning to develop our own style, and it's getting less African every time. I think it suits us better, seeing as we're just a bunch of white Dutch gals. :P
Tradition is good, but music should also be allowed to progress and change in time. That's the great thing about music after all!
The video you're responding to has a slightly different rhythm. The original beat goes like this: 1 - - a 2 e & a 3 - & - 4 - - -
Whereas, the beat in this video is: 1 - - - 2 e & a 3 - & - 4 - - - The "a" of the 1 beat is missing in your version, which changes the feel a bit, because it anticipates the 2 beat. Also, you are wasting too much energy on the silent ghost motions. Eventually you can just keep the same sticking and drop the extra movement, which will enhance endurance & speed.
@rafael46 I don't know your language, but I think I know what you want to tell me. This in NOT a lesson how to play whatever. Wonderwebb asked me and I made this video.
and it should be: ||: B T T O O O O O | B T B T S T T T :|| ||: R L R L R L R L | R L R L R L R L :|| Lastly, regarding the sounds you produce on the djembe, it seems to me they are not clearly differentiated, sometimes I listen to a Slap (S) when I should listen to a Tone (O) and vice versa. Notation -------- B = Bass O = Tone S = Slap T = "touch" (a small touch with the tip of the fingers which helps keep the rhythm flowing) - = nothing (our hands stay quiet) Grüße aus Spanien, Juan
You introduce "touches" to help you keep in rhythm, in addition you alternate hands converting the pattern into a hand-to-hand one, but at the beginning you change the pattern slightly, leaving out the first tone (O), so the pattern you play is:
@DieKapuzengang klar kannst Du machen, bist Du Linkshänder, wie ich? Sonst ist es doch richtig herum:wenn ich die linke Hand nehme mußt Du Deine rechte nehmen.
thanks for the responce to my question . I am only a beginner and found your vid good . While watching i noticed that you were sometimes hitting the drum but not making contact is this a timing thing or once or twice i heard an extra note which was very low and iassumed that would have been it .
It is after the roll at the time your hitting the 2 bass i see your right hand is still moving can you shed some insight for me please?
thanks for taking the time the video is well put together
this is not to play djembe.

The pattern wonderwebb does is:
||: B - - O O O O O | B - B - S - - - :||
