  • Effortless, joyous, genius with soul to spare..

  • one two three ungh... faster faster fa... un ungh ungh ya alright ya uh ungh

  • damn he's good ;)

  • This is why Sly Stone is a genius.

  • sly is just too cool

  • The Mic is not the problem as it is just a passive device. Sly's Mic was distorting ("Clipping") because the recording console level for his voice was set to high ("Hot"). Recorded Music now uses Compression to automatically limit clipping and squash the loud and quiet parts together. This is easier to do but makes songs sound bland and one dimensional compared to most older recordings.

  • Sly has been one of my favorite artists, like forever. So Powerful, So Soulful, So Good!

  • MA'AT BROTHERS & SISTERS ! ! ! THE LYRICS HE PUT DOWN- FROM 1:16 BUDDY BUDDY ! HE IS SO BEAUTIFULLY IN THE SPIRIT ASK YOURSELF WHERE THAT HAS GONE FROM US EVEN IF WE DO "POP" MUSIC WE CANNOT COMPROMISE- THEY WILL STILL BUY IT CUZ THEY NEED IT-DONT GIVE WHAT PEOPLE WANT-GIVE'EM WHAT THEY & YOU NEED- THA COSMIC SHEE@T ! ! !

  • A true American original. Love the hair and the Star of David !!!

  • Beautiful man. Beautiful performance. Beautiful tune.

  • So much talent; so cool! Sly Stone forever!

  • This Brothers Approach to What He's Sangin' is Beautiful ! You See his Body English and Ray Charles funk, and he Started HamBonin' @ The End Ha ha Sly Stone Is AweSome ! ! !

  • supertalent/legend/genius

  • Love this performance - Sly was so talented.

  • LOVE.x

  • this one performance shows evidence of his raw talent, musicianship and singing, his song writing abilities, him being basically made of soul, and that he can have fun with it while hes doing this, he can write a beautiful song and still have a laugh performing it, legend, i'd give anything to see him live, even now

  • How can something so simple and effortless be that pungent with pure uncut soul and genious.

  • A very talented cat. When he's clean, he's the absolute truth! Love the cat!

  • SO SLY

  • You can tell from all the Micheal Douglas videos that he had a genuine affection toward Sly.

  • while i don't remember the chat before (part 2 seems like David Steinberg is the interviewer), i remember seein' him perform on this show in tha day

as for Cavett vs. Douglas, Mike wasn't tryin' to be cerebral (he was outa Philly, right?) "you takin' care of your bread?"

    Sly rules!

  • Such a natural talent, sang like an angel - albeit a very 'playful' one.

  • "If you see Sly...tell him I love him from the HEART!" - Billy Preston (RIP)...

That goes double for me Billy!

Oh man. I have to watch myself. I can gush on and on and on about Sly! I love the man!

  • Big Daddy got it right..this guy was the real deal. Only others that stack with Sly...Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley (although not funk-oriented, Bob had soul!).

And you can thank the grand daddy of them all, most great funk vocalist numero uno influence...Mr. Ray Charles!!! Soul.

  • Get some real mics for the playa..Mike Douglas knew how rare and great it was to have a sober Sly show up and I respect the man for understanding what he had here....Mike douglas was a cool old white cat.Dick Cavett could eat a dck

  • STFU!!!

    Dick Cavett was gracious.

    Unlike you!

    haha

    Big Daddy

  • this version definitely exemplifies his Ray Charles influence...you can Ray in Stevie Wonder's music again..speaks volumes of Ray's greatness...

  • Ray was the man but Sky in in that level ..He is one of the most underrated Cats to grace the airwaves

  • Right on Big dog..I can diggit.

  • ".He is one of the most underrated Cats to grace the airwaves"

    Big Daddy agrees

He literally makes some of the SWEETEST stuff seem UTTERLY effortless.

That's the mark of a genius.

    That's also the mark of...

    Big Daddy

And yes it's true again, this is in the top 100 best youtube videos. One more comment, he's got to be the cutest damn thing. Sorry if I make the men shrug ..... but it's so true.

  • Defiantly my favorite song ever!

  • my favorite song ever

  • he enjoys playing his own music very much... ex. 2:12

  • Wonderful voice - not many like that. He's such a natural musician, natural singer - acts as if it's no bigger a deal than walking across the stage.

  • you are right!! some times his voice gets so loud on this vid. the mike cant take it now thats what i call pipes! This is better than any American idol to me :D

  • this guy's talent is IMMENSE. He's reign was short-lived but he is a GIANT his talent is on a par with Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, all the Motown greats, Sam Cooke, etc. This dude is one of the most talented people who ever lived especially when you consider he wrote all his own music.

  • No. He said bye to the little girl Pamela too. It would be cool if those kids would comment on what they remember about this day.
