@vincentkhoful I used to truck for 16 years... it's a high paying load for this kind of specialized transport... talked to one guy and he get as high as $6 per mile! But these guys have huge overheads; and this kind of work you are usually the owner of your own company. If you got a multi-million dollar yacht, your not going to miss the pennies to get the thing moved? I never understood how this is done; financial wise I think there must be better ways to do this service?
I would estimate the Salvage at about $12,000. The rest would be rerigging, body work, anti-fouling, probably a new shaft and propeller, and anything else they could push through the insurance.
after its all said and done in the way of money ? why not just let insurence cover it ? thats why you buy insurence isnt it ? i just dont think the salvage would be worth it as much as it would cost ?
I see. You hire a crane and move it 40 feet at at time and have a backhoe dig a slot for the keel, then truck it away. Is the $50,000 an accurate figure for the crane, the backhoe and the truck or does that price include repairs to the boat also?
Looks like all those $20 pieces of plywood get busted up.
Yeah! Like those selfish jerks in the Coastguard.. going out in the worst weather, risking their lives to save people...all so they can get rich. And THIS guy,! Why didn't he donate the man power and the equipment to the two morons who refused the tow in the first place? Taht would have been such a nice gift. We Americans are selfish and greedy.
The part of this story that bothers me is why didnt they use the sails to bring it to safety when the motor failed ? did the mass break or what ?
