The Australian Labour Party killed off Golden Fleece and Ampol culminating in the great clean fuel at Amoco. Now we are stuck with a few multinational oil co's such as Shell BP, what a mess that Government has made to Australia!!!
Oh... well the standard metric unit for fuel effiency is L / 100 km, which in fact is proportionally inverse to miles per gallon (with the conversion factor being 286 divided by miles per gallon).
Anyways I wonder how many of these cars shown here are on the road today being driven by hoons with a knack for souping-up classic cars?
@dadsoldtapes - 1966 was the year Australia converted to decimal currency. Australia went Metric in September 1972. There were fluid ounces, pints, quarts and gallons. I think it was -
16 fl.oz. to 1 pint
2 pints to 1 quart
4 quarts to 1 gallon
and 1 Imperial gallon = 4.54609 litres.
Under SI measurement, fuel economy these days is expressed in "litres per hundred kilometres" (l/100km).
I love this add it's got a falcon I'n it

Was probably a good idea when most early cars had little by way of filters if any, Pitty the filters were never changed.

Nice vid... I think 1966 was the year Australia converted to Metric - so by saying "every ounce" do they now mean "every litre" or something?
dadsoldtapes 2 years ago
"ounce" would be "milli-litre", "litre" replaced "gallon" in word usage, ie: "miles per gallon" became "kilometres per litre".
Australia converted to metric around 1974 / 1975...
