@LiveLoveChill Page 1: I see this question come up about ooVoo and a virus from time to time. My experience: I was "invited" via perhaps an "invite-a-friend" link from within ooVoo, just a guess. My friend only runs Linux, so that should have been a clue that something was wrong. There are only versions for Windows and Mac. I visited the site from my email client on my Linux computer and found there was no Linux version.
@LiveLoveChill Page 2, continued from Page 1: I had just installed Windows XP on a second computer and had its updates completed, using MS Security Essentials and Windows Firewall, and visited the oovoo.com web site. There I downloaded the Windows XP version of ooVoo. Ran the installer and came upon the ooVoo EULA, which I read. Copied it out of the installer's frame and pasted it into my text editor for easier reading. At Line 77 it gives ooVoo the right to install the (Continued ...)
@LiveLoveChill Page 3, continued from page 2: At Line 77, the ooVoo EULA gives it the right to change my home page, change my search options, change my 404 error page, and I read no farther.
Looked for a way to refuse the agreement, didn't see it, and eXited the installer.
Up comes the ooVoo sign-in box. I had yet to agree to terms or open an account. Closed the program window.
Add/Remove Software up next and ooVoo is here. (Continued....)
@LiveLoveChill Page 4, continued from page 3: In Add/Remove I first got rid of the ooVoo Toolbar.
Up comes MSIE 8, that had Windows Live as its home page, and on which I had never run the setup wizard to completion. Home page was Bing, and as I went to close the browser, its setup wizard was starting up, only to be shut down with the browser. I uninstalled the ooVoo client, and cleaned up some Registry entries. Restarted my computer, and I must continue again...
@LiveLoveChill Page 5, continued from page 4: I restarted my computer and it demanded to see my password to let me in. Windows never looks for my admin password on startup before this. My password did not work. Fifty dollars later, my computer is back in order, but my System Restore is turned off.
A friend was told about the great ooVoo and he installed it on his Windows XP Home. Didn't like it and uninstalled it. His Internet is a very slow 256k, and I have to Continue.....
@LiveLoveChill Page 6 continued from page 5: Please bear with me, I am about to the end: His Internet is slow, so it would probably not work well for streaming video chat, since it does not work for YouTube video.
He does not have an admin password set, so he was not locked-out like I was, but his Windows System Restore is garbled-up just the same.
I telephoned AVG with my concerns, they say it is not a virus, but they will investigate further as I understood the person I was talking to. END
i have a mac computer..downloaded it but when i try to make a video call it says "ooVoo video chat rooms are currently not supported in safari 64 bit"..can somebody tell me whats these means and please help to fix it!!!???? :(
I agree about how they are incompatible but my friend said he could do it and he has a macbook to . Im tryna get the paralel app but i need a window disk
Haha lol, Yeah they are a bit too incompatible with some software, it's just that i think they're overpricing their stuff a bit too much. Like I could build a PC with the same specs for $300 dollars less. But, it's really the logo and how nice it looks in my opinion. Why not get a PC?
adrian is a scam artist.. I paid him to do a review and he ripped me off! He doesnt reply to emails and the last ones he did were threatning. Want proof? Contact me. Beware
oovoo is sexy ive had it for like a year and me and my friends use it at like 3 in the morning every nite and when u dnt have superoovoo there is a way to get 4 ppl just ask me
FYI - No need for a wired LAN connection. Since ooVoo transmits over the internet, your internet connection (which is usually from 1 mbps - 16 mbps for broadband), which won't come close to exhausting even a 54 mbps wireless G router.
Out of curiosity, what kind of graphics card do you have? I'm curious to see how taxing it is on the CPU if you have a good card.
You sound so young and are probably one of the best reviewers on here.
