Its to scrape away the layer of your nail that is like fat or something, if you take it away, your nail polish will last longer. And it also will even out your nails. I see the salons do it to ;)

@PianoOgFiolin94 haha....you want to know the secret to stop nail biting?........put so much nail polish and make it thick...and then.......tap on anything hard...get the love of the tapping noise!...trust me it helps!
