  • "If you hear your gerbil thumping his hind legs rhythmically, something has startled him, and he is warning any other gerbils who might be in the area that there might be danger. Usually, if one of your gerbils starts thumping his feet, the other gerbils within earshot will also start thumping their feet. Usual ly, it's something like a sudden, unexpected movement by a human in the house.

  • My gerbil did this for about a minute straight after he heard a titmouse chirp outside my window. :)

  • my pet gerbil coconut does that every day. by the way, elmo is also a cute name, since i'm in fifth grade, taking care of coconut is soo much fun!

  • That signs for danger!

  • @MrDann011 Or mating, or just for the fun of it.

  • Gerbils are drumming when they sense danger, when they drumming they say there gerbil friends that "danger is coming".

  • who knew that gerbils can have happy feet

  • It is his mating call or he is very exited or nervous

  • HE's just scared by:a sound, sudden movement,or see's anything that he thinks will attack him;he's just warning any gerbils nearby to be cautious.

  • its a seizure

  • @shredder710 nope, no seizure. He was just startled either by a sound, shadow or quick movement and is warning any other gerbils :)

  • that's what a gerbil does when he's excited ore just scared of something

  • My gerbil does that randomly. She does it sitting down.

  • he's like "FUCKKKKKKKKK human! send for help!"

  • they do dat to warn other gerbils that there is danger. buy a gerbil book it will tell u more.

  • okay...does anyone know why they do that?!

  • it's a hick-up

  • Apparently its a way of warning each other if theres danger near. Mine do that if they are startled. One starts and the other ones does the same.

  • @GenBProductions

When they thump their foot it means they're nervous. My gerbils do it when my dog comes up and sniffs their cage.

  • mine always does that

  • feed him more water than food if possible for a day or 2.

  • that gerbil is tap dacing is so funny but the gerbil is really cute
