Gerbils are drumming when they sense danger, when they drumming they say there gerbil friends that "danger is coming".

HE's just scared by:a sound,sudden movement,or see's anything that he thinks will attack him;he's just warning any gerbils nearby to be cautious.

Apparently its a way of warning each other if theres danger near. Mine do that if they are startled. One starts and the other ones does the same.

When they thump their foot it means they're nervous. My gerbils do it when my dog comes up and sniffs their cage.
